There was no risk involved in nominating Brown Jackson, and the move was met with near-universal plaudits from the press. One day, there will be an Asian Supreme Court Justice, and that too won’t be especially remarkable in a modern context. Given that, there’s no reason to think this is a turning point in the country regarding…well, just about anything. Rather, all the overblown pomp and circumstance feels highly manufactured. The Biden administration is desperate for a win because everything else around them has continued to collapse.
