The January 6 attack on the Capitol was appalling. Those who violated the law at the Capitol that day should be prosecuted. Those who engaged in violence should be punished severely (as should the left-wing rioters who have been engaging in violence and assaults on government buildings for the better part of a year).

But this a matter for law enforcement, not a congressional investigation and certainly not a commission. I doubt there’s any evidence that the U.S. faces an appreciable threat of an insurrection by any element of the right.

You HAVE to put everybody and everything through the filter of your personal bias.

Everyone who see events in a different way than you is a "Trumpster" an "extremist"

You are a poor representative of liberal thought.

MILITARY-WIDE GUILT SESSION NOT GOING AS PLANNED:

Some US troops view Capitol riots, racial protests equally, worrying Pentagon leaders.

“During military training sessions to address extremism in the ranks, some service members have challenged why the Pentagon is not treating the violence during racial injustice protests last summer as equal to the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.”

I can see why “Pentagon leaders” would worry when the grunts are smarter than them.

Also, the “deadly riot” only involved violence against an unarmed female protester. The “hit in the head with a fire extinguisher” claims about Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick have been shown to be bogus.

FRISCO, Tex. — Sunlight gleamed off the tiled roofs of the taupe mini-mansions and walkable shopping centers as March 4 dawned in this corner of North Texas. According to specious speculations online, this was the day when Donald Trump would be reinstalled as president.

"We are optimistic . . . If you're in morning [sic] Please stay at home!!!" the group's organizer, Jeff Hauk, told the weekly meeting of a group of conservatives who call themselves the "DFW Deplorables."

In posts on their private Facebook page, Hauk said he still believed Trump had their backs and that the former president was working behind the scenes to return to power. "It is not over," Hauk wrote.

Hope for Trump's return is fervent in Frisco and across the north Dallas suburbs, an area of rapid growth and rapidly increasing diversity. Nineteen local residents have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to federal authorities, one of the largest numbers in any place in the country.

AD

Many of the rioters came from the "mainstream of society," according to the FBI's Dallas field office, including three real estate agents, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, an oilman and an actor who once appeared on the popular television show "Friday Night Lights." They were driven by a "salad bowl of grievances," the FBI said, including anger over the presidential election, white-supremacist ideology and the discredited extremist ideology QAnon, which holds that Trump will save the world from a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles.

Their groundless claims are being fed by conservative politicians and from the pulpits of large, powerful evangelical churches with teachings that verge on white nationalism, both motivated by fear that they are losing a largely White, conservative enclave that views these changes with suspicion.

More arrests are coming, and North Texas remains a focus for investigators who expect to charge as many as 400 people from across the country in the attack on the Capitol.

Get it? They want their war on Domestic Terror (which means their war on anyone who dissents from the establishment viewpoint) -- and they'll lie, cheat, and break the law to get it. And if you dare talk about it, then you're supporting (checks notes)... White Supremacy or something.

So just lie? And a really stupid lie.

Why not get some real issues to run on?

THE Q LIE: The Power-Grab After January 6th Was the Real Insurrection.

Q Shaman in full face paint and Viking regalia had last been seen at an Arizona climate-change rally, near a sign that declared “the ice caps are melting.”

He claims he was waved into the Capitol and guided through its hallways by security officials. There is video evidence to support his claim. Several Capitol police officers have been suspended.

Perhaps the FBI should be investigating whether Ashli Babbitt was waved in, and if there should be some additional training in federal law enforcement about when it’s okay to kill an unarmed invitee on federal property.

Because, let’s face it, had Amy Schumer and Emily Ratajkowski been gunned down when they breached the Dirksen Hart Senate Office Buildings based on a ridiculous conspiracy theory about Brett Kavanaugh, someone would at least be in trouble.

In truth, when viewed outside its Twitter-enforced orthodoxy, the real scandal of January 6 rises to irony: the federal government failed to protect the Capitol from an unruly crowd that had assembled partly to protest the government’s failure to perform its basic functions capably.

Politics makes strange bedfellows, none stranger, maybe, than the alignment of Trumpists with the left’s last remaining honest intellectuals.

This is what Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Glenn Greenwald wrote recently about the lies being told about insurrection:

“That is the core formula of authoritarianism — to place the population in a state of such acute fear that it acquiesces to any assertion of power which security state agencies and politicians demand and which they insist are necessary to keep everyone safe.”

The Q Lie is an excuse for politicians to grab power from the people. It is, to borrow an expression, a form of insurrection.

The January 6 Prosecutions Hit a Speed Bump

American Thinker, by Clarice Feldman

Two weeks ago, I wrote of the Department of Justice’s overreach respecting some of the hundreds of January 6 defendants. On Friday the D.C. Circuit clipped the department’s wings. I expect more such losses as time goes on and the Department must actually present evidence in contested trials. The ploy of keeping in D.C. jails without bail some of the protestors who engaged in no specific violent acts at the Capitol until their cases can be heard was very obviously designed to compel them to plea bargain so they could return home to their families and jobs, and the three-judge panel wasn’t buying it.

This is very good news. Some judges at least are ruling on the basis of the law and not their politics. The three judges involved here were appointed by Clinton, Obama, and Trump. This is a huge slap in the face to the Justice Department, which seemed prepared to order gulags be built for peaceful protesters.
