COLLATERAL DAMAGE:

Restaurant Revolution: How the Industry Is Fighting to Stay Alive.

“Two months into the pandemic, 40 percent of America’s restaurants were shuttered and 8 million employees out of work—three times the job losses seen by any other industry.

While some restaurants began reopening in May and June, most featured only takeout, delivery, or outdoor dining options due to local restrictions. The number of diners in June remained down more than 65 percent year over year, and the National Restaurant Association projected an industry revenue shortfall of $240 billion for the year.

Second-order effects of restaurant closures ripple through the American economy, bringing economic pain to farmers, fishermen, foragers, ranchers, manufacturers, and other producers who supply the industry. Equally hit are supply chain partners who move goods across the country.”

GOP CONGRESSMAN SAYS IT’S TIME TO RE-OPEN THE CAPITOL TO PUBLIC:

Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill)says Democrats aren’t planning to allow the public to resume visiting Capitol Hill before the November election. Davis says that ought to happen today. Also staff. And, most importantly, all representatives to be physically present in the House chamber when voting.

Davis is the ranking Republican on the House Administration Committee, which oversees the daily operations of the lower chamber and has oversight of federal elections.

Not just food production and service.  Briggs and Stratton which is the largest small engine manufacturer in the US has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week.

Sen. Ted Cruz said that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has “abandoned his oath” by siding with the four liberals on the Court yet again. The SCOTUS voted 5-4 to reject a Nevada church’s plea to suspend the state’s public health order limiting attendance at services:

The basic dispute revolved around this:

Nevada has placed a 50-person cap on all places of worship, no matter the capacity of the building, as a part of the state’s coronavirus restrictions.

But casinos, along with other businesses such as restaurants and movie theaters, may permit up to 50 percent capacity, allowing casinos to grant access to hundreds of patrons at a time.

Roberts is getting plenty of attention for how he sided, but so is Justice Neil Gorsuch’s dissent. Gorsuch does a nice job here of putting into words what so many have been thinking these past few months:

They should have had "***** the police" signs, riot gear, Molotov cocktails, and called it a "protest." Then they could congregate and stay open.

I'm not sure how a business owner could vote for a Democratic again. They allow rioters and looters free rein, and arrest small business owners trying to earn a living.

You have gotta be kidding. With all the ***** that has gone down in Seattle and Eugene with the rioting and looting, they are going to impose restrictions on business owners?

Oh, so NOW they need cops to help out.

Got it.

Masks are the alpha and the omega.  The raison d’etre.  The yin and the yang.  Why stop at the regular police... call on the SWAT team!
