post game interview madness

Recommended Posts

Just read an article praising Tracy Wolfson for handling it like a pro and blaming it on security.  You can argue security let it get out of hand or can argue security was lettign the players enjoy their moment without being bothered by reporters.  I'll go with the 2nd one!

Kind of reminded me of the Peter Rose Jim Grey interview

And to the poster who commented she shouted the entire time, that's the only voice I've ever heard from her.

The networks.  They are paying for it.

Nothing was different on the field this time as far as access for the press was concerned.  Exactly what part of the scene that you describe was directly the result of decisions made by Roger Goodell for this game in particular.  Be specific.

How many press passes to grant and what sideline security to hire to enforce policy?

they opted for a free for all instead of select access

My daughter and I were theo only ones awake at that point. Why!? Is it really nessassary to be the first person there to get the answer to how do you feel about this win? My daughter said, "shouldnt they give them a second to allow congratulations by the other players"? I think they do it is rude and doesn't allow the oppertunity for the players to be good  showers of sportmanship

I mentioned it in the game thread but it took so much of the best of humanity out of an incredible human moment and the worst was fully on display

Im saying nfl rule, no media on the field after a game.  Set up your cameras and interview stuff on the sidelines or wherever.  Its a simple fix.   Players come to you and keep the field off limits.  It was out of hand.   Brady just capped a superbowl and 90 seconds later he's yelling at reporters to stop pushing etc.   Its so stupid.

The point of this thread is to fix it, NFL, networks, whoever.

Brady handled it well, but it sucked for everyone and was hard to watch.   Then this little 4 foot 10inch lady finally gets a second to ask her question, and instead of sticking the mic in his face and saying "Hows it feel Tom?" and then shutting her mouth, she launches into this 40 second question about some crap and history and being vindicated.  He ignored it because it was stupid and he probably couldn't here it anyway, and went on with the exact thing he would have said if he just handed him the mic.

To make matters worse, she screamed the entire time,

Poor guy.  Nevertheless, he persisted.

That's on the stadium staff.  You've been to games.  NFL doesn't deal with that.  It's event staff.

As above.  The stadium staff handles security.  The media passes are what they have been.  No reason to believe suddenly, for this one SB,  thee was a gigantic increase in on field press passes given out.  It was just the media behaving poorly.

And who dictates the rules to the event staff? I have been to games and have worked in (non nfl) events and logistics. There’s no way the nfl hasn’t set very explicit guidelines for super bowl press and security.

The post-game was a massive clusterfunk. Didn't Wolfson actually get knocked down at one point? And I couldn't understand for the life of me why they kept her mic live with all that commotion going on. Cue the audio back to Nantz and Romo or anyone else and let them babble until things cleared out enough for them to get a minute with Brady.

If they do, then what would lead you to believe that they changed their previous post SB on field press procedures for this one SB that resulted in the scene we saw?

I think it was just individuals in the press behaving more aggressively.  It certainly didn't look like anything else.

I didn’t say they changed it. I did imply that they need to change it.

IMO it is an extremely simple fix. No media access except for 2 on field reporters and their camera man. The 2 on field reporters are chosen by the network that is airing the game. Have a chained off section around the field for still cameramen, they are free to move about the perimeter. Each team is also allowed 2 of their own photographers for stills. Every other member of the media can wait in the media room for the athletes to change and shower.

Good luck with that.  It's the Super Bowl and the celebration, trophy presentation happens on the field, not the locker room after the game.  And SB or not, the bolded part never happens after any game...

Ok. Sorry man.

Others were blaming "Goodell" for that scrum.  Looked like press gone wild.

I mean, I do blame him for not having a smarter rule already. Just because it’s only clumsy in the past doesn’t mean they shouldn’t foresee the problem getting worse

Well, the network can have their two designated reporters. It’s not like the media has a right to go wherever they want. This is the NFL’s property, the media will go where they are told or they won’t be invited on said property.

Why on earth would any pro sports league virtually eliminate 98% of the press from covering their championship game like that?

It will never happen for obvious reasons.

It would easily still be covered just as much. How many people care about some still photo a reporter got on the sideline? People watch the game on TV. I don’t care if some obscure news station got a snippet of an interview and I would imagine most people are the same.

Youre missing the point.  There is absolutely no way the NFL would televise a post super bowl  field empty except for players and 2 camera people.  They WANT the mob scene.  It’s part of the theater.

If you think they would ever consider clearing the field in the way yiu describe,  then you have never understood the NFL
