This is what happens when the NHL and the refs they control, decide they don't want to affect the outcome of the game. They affect the outcome of the game!  I can't stand the tired old line of "let the players settle it on the ice" or field or whatever.  If they just called the game by the rules the players would adjust soon enough. But they take the spineless way out and try to please everyone by not calling infractions. Frustrating but this shite does go both ways. Saw a player get xchecked right in front of the ref last night! I know that prikc saw it.  How is not calling that not affecting the outcome? Resulting, justified PP could definitely determine the outcome.

The inherent risk of “letting them play”.

Mistakes were made with non calls against both teams.

I’d say that if the Caps got that non call and a foal that they were gifted and me just as easily.

The NHL decided to not have a hearing for the Wilson hit.        That should settle that argument.

Sounds like an extension of the "let them play don't want officials to influence" logic. Whatever. When the league doesn't act sometimes the teams will settle it. If that happens the spineless ones in charge will have to come up with an explanation/excuse/lie.

within the rules he was a fraction of a second "late" on his hit to the "body"

One guy said had he had his stick down there wouldn't have been any question to the "legality".

I'm just hoping that the GK's stop yanking the helmets off of the Caps players.   If the Ref's "let them play" I can see Wilson dropping his gloves and taking one for the team.

4:35 to the puck drops!!!

Lets Go Caps.

Just starting Game 2 now on the DVR.

They really went full "Game of Thrones" in the pre-game show tonight!  LOL

I'm surprised they are showing as much of this stuff as they are, instead of commercials.

I'll admit I was down on the Caps after games 4 and 5 of the TB series.  Then a completely different Caps team showed up for games 6 and 7; they were aggressive, dominant, and played smart.  So if they play like they did last night (other than the penalties), as well as games 6 and 7 last series, I like the Caps chances to win the Stanley Cup...finally.  Will still be a tough series against VGK, but 1-1 (could be 2-0 had it not been for that cheap goal) headed to home ice is not a bad place to be.

I keep waiting for the Caps to be the Caps of seasons past.

Then I get pleasantly surprised.

Ummmm. Not trying to cause an argument  .......  where are the VGK fans?

I was wondering the exact same thing.  VGK loses a game and they go into hiding, or hibernation until October.

I went into semi-hibernation a couple weeks ago. Still paying attention because I love hockey and the playoffs have been great. I am pulling for Vegas because I like the vibe and I have never liked the Caps. One of those things I don't know why. Maybe overexposure of Ovechicken who knows. Good game last night. Caps are playing well. I really don't think the Knights have their game going yet. I can't tell why but lots of mistakes, unforced errors that they weren't making before. I know the ****ty ice is affecting both teams. Just too hot. I wish they could figure that out somehow because it's a problem every year this time. Another observation is the hit on that Russian kid Kuznetsov. The one that got injured . I'm sure that is a result of the Wilson hit the game before. Can't prove it obviously but I wouldn't be surprised at all. NHL doesn't regulate and there it is. Looking forward to game 3 Saturday

You are a hockey fan and you are for Vegas.

A small difference.

Ovi is a great player who finally made the SC.

One can say he’s deserving.

Lool at all the Fluery love and the Syd the Kid Crosby love.

They were no more deserving than the leading scorer 3 of the last 4 seasons

The great 8

No argument on Ovi. Fantastic player. I have never warmed up to him. I don't have a solid explanation for that. It will be good to see a player that has been at the top of his game to get rewarded if they were to win it all. Can't deny the career. Good for him if he gets the prize.

I haven't heard any thing else on Kuznetsov, and I kind of doubt we will.  NHL isn't required to disclose injury status as far as I know.  I'd be kind of surprised if he plays Saturday night; the left wrist looked like it was really bothering him.  I don't think the hit was in retribution to the Wilson hit since the check on Kuzy was clean, just an unfortunate injury.

Looking forward to game 3 as well, which is shaping up to be a good series.  Both teams are going at each other and not holding back.  Caps need to cut back on the penalties or those will be their downfall; they were very fortunate to survive the 5 on 3 Wednesday night.
