McDermott Coaching Style - Good or Bad

Recommended Posts

That's because in Mcdermott's system the defensive line get to attack. It's not like he is changing his system to fit our players, it's a lucky coincidence that his scheme matches what our Dline does well.

Is it a " lucky" coincidence or a calculated decision based on what was discussed in the interview process? I'd be inclined to think the Pegulas realized their mistake with Rex- hiring a guy who's scheme wasn't a fit with the team's players. They made a rookie mistake, cut ties early and moved on. If this is coincidence, and the interview discussions focused on where to go to lunch, we are truly doomed!

On come on. Maybe it's because in looking for a HC they got a guy whose philosophy matched the talent.

One thing that hit me today - Don't know why I didn't realize this sooner:

Sean McDermott is a system guy.

Sounds like he has his mind made up that he has to run his defensive system. I know some other coaches who think that way. One of them just got fired from the Bills last season.

I guess McDermott is not the type of coach, nor probably has the experience to do so, who can take another team's defensive personnel and create the defense to best fit that personnel.

Bummer.

That is my first knock against the guy. But it is a significant one. Hope he gets the guys to fit his system. Not the type of coach I really wanted though. So far I like everything else about the guy that I have heard. But a guy stuck on his own system has me very concerned.

Your opinions?

You seem to be ¨knocking¨ McD as a coach, a lil´bit too early, aren´t you? ...just saying...

meh

we should know by know, this is what players always say when asked that question at this point in the season esp with a new defense. blah blah coach whatever allows us to play to our strengths blah blah

more proof might be their good play in the last 4-3, but that also had mario before he became polly prissypants, and was a different philosophy, the wide nine. it remains to be seen if it means anything now
