The theme in 1984 was that war could be used increase hate in society and keep the masses distracted so they could be kept down. I'll bet you never even read the book. Have you? It's the first novel I ever read as a teenager. And your summation is so incorrect, I don't even feel the need to explain the theme to you. Is there an effort to force any church to marry gay couples? I am familiar with the contraception issue which I think is their reference and am unfamiliar with the other stuff. Anyway, what I find ironic is that AMC, producers of "The Walking Dead" would join this protest over supposed discrimination against gays. For those who don't watch the show which films in Georgia, there is a character named Maggie, pictured below. At various times during Season 6 she has un-gayed one character and un-straighted another. The formerly gay character is named Aaron. At one point he ventures out on a search with Maggie and they go through the sewer system. There is some rolling around in the slime with zombies and stuff and Aaron clearly undergoes a change. Who can blame him really? The story line for that one is still ongoing and there is a bit of a love triangle and maybe a love parallelogram or even a love pentagon. Fast forward a few episodes and Maggie and another character named Carol are taken as prisoners. One of the captors named Paula ends up telling part of her pre-apocalypse life story which was clearly that of a straight person. She had a husband and four kids and deeply missed them all. She had a conflict brewing with Carol which was very well acted by both. Maggie was conflicted with a different captor for the most part and they talked. There was also a dude captor and an old broad who was coughing up blood. Anyway Maggie and Carol managed to kill the old broad and the dude died of an earlier gunshot. On at least two occasions, Paula had the drop on them but spent just a split second making googly eyes at Maggie. At one of these points it ended up getting her killed by Carol who is normally an efficient killer but in this episode was definitely off her game and Paula could have won the fight had she not been un-straighted. Don't get me wrong, these are all good story lines because it is a fiction show anyway but for AMC to play fast and loose with character's sexuality like that and then to turned around and criticize the State of Georgia is ridiculous.
