@mikerodak

Bills are assigning Cordy Glenn the franchise tag, per @AlbertBreer, @ProFootballTalk and @alexmarvez

Now get him signed, Overdorf

Cuts and restructures will be coming next, I assume.

@christrapasso

Cordy Glenn is repped by same agency, Sports Trust Advisors (@_SportsTrust_), as #Bills DT Kyle Williams. Latter got an extension last year.

@albertbreer

Bills OT Cordy Glenn's tag officially filed, non-exclusive.

I think the Bills must be thinking that-- but this could really make the negotiations with him hard.

You more or less pulled that out of thin air, no?

So if we sign him to an extension before the season starts, does it override the $13M he would get this year?

CBF

Any contract he signs replaces the old one.

By out of thin air, you mean common sense? An NFL player playing a contact sport with 1 kidney-- methinks that the team is going to hedge their risk on that.

some, sure -- but your belief that theres no way that he plays out this contract (from the richie thread) and then that its going to make the negotiations hard because its a big concern for the bills and hes not wanting to meet them on it

What exactly is the difference between the exclusive and non-exclusive tag. I know non-exclusive means that the player can negotiate with another team, but does the team have to pay even more if they go with the exclusive tag?

Could be wrong, but the 1 kidney thing has all the hallmarks of being really tricky in contract negotiations. How does each side value something like that? I think it is much different than an ACL repair, etc.

I believe other teams can negotiate and we have chance to match. If we do not match we get 2 1st round picks. Not 100% on this though.

The salary of a player on an exclusive tag is determined by the average of the top five cap hits at the player's position - or 120% of the previous year's salary (whichever is more). Additionally, an exclusive franchise tag restricts players from negotiating with other teams. Only the team that applied the tag can negotiate with the player. When the player signs the tag, his franchise tag salary becomes fully guaranteed. However, Article 10, Section 2 of the CBA indicates that if a player fails to maintain peak physical condition, his tag salary can be terminated. Ultimately, the exclusive franchise tag is a powerful bargaining tool given to teams in negotiations. Players want certainty in a long-term contract and there is always that potential for a career ending injury.

The salary of a player on a non-exclusive tag is determined by the average of the top five salaries (different than cap hits) at the player's position - or 120% of the previous year's salary (whichever is more). This salary is also fully guaranteed upon signing. However, the rules are slightly different for the non-exclusive tag. With a non-exclusive tag, players are given the ability to negotiate with other teams. The original team can match any offer, but if they don't and the player signs to another team - the original team is entitled to 2 first round picks as compensation from the new team the player signed with. The difference in franchise tags is essentially the restriction on access to free agency.

They get medical opinions on the risk and build an educated case for their stance, just like any other medical issue
