The Chopping Block

I'll try to be realistic, and not work on too many emotions, also, I'm ignoring contracts in this since I don't know enough about them and I'm lazy:

QB: Keep as is. Tyrod is developing nicely, and outside of Jax, I think EJ is developing in Roman's system there are certainly worse starters and backup QBs than what we have.

OL: Find a quality starting RT through draft or FA, cut one of the existing depth tackles, move current starter(s) to depth

RB: Shady, Karlos, and Gillississippi seem like a pretty solid trio. Comfortable there. Boobie needs to go. Felton... I'm unsure of.

TE: Clay is awesome. Gragg, I wish lived up to his potential, but just isn't productive. O'Leary is an unknown. Need another depth guy here, likely to replace Gragg.

WR: Goodwin and Harvin are gone. Sammy is good, Woods and Hogan are solid guys. We need another playmaker. I'm not trusting smaller fast guys in the modern football era on a whole, so I'd prefer a bigger guy who can be a safety valve. Easley sticks around due to special teams needs.

DL (4-3): Mario and Kyle are getting up there, but still productive. Though not on paper. I've liked how well Bryant has played in Kyle's absence. We need to address DE and DT though for the future. I'd like to see us draft a stud DE or DT with our first or second pick in the draft. And another depth guy with our 3rd or 4th pick.

LB (4-3): Rough going here. I thought Brown and Bradham were on their way to being good/solid players, but have kind of sucked this year. Really need some help. Brown is young and can still grown into the system, but who knows. Much like DE/DT we could be using some new young talent from the draft. The rest of the existing crew I don't even know they exist, so they can go, assuming we find better.

CB: I think we're good here. Darby and Gilmore are good starters, Leodis and Robey provide solid depth. Next year's draft, maybe look at another, but skip the position this year.

S: Need help here all of a sudden. I don't trust AW's neck, Graham hasn't looked as good as I was hoping. Duke is cheap depth but that's about it. Rambo has actually been a surprise, he seems to be a ball hawk, but also gets burned on some plays. Not sure what the answer is here.

K: Carpenter/Gay needs to go, unfortunately. Carpenter is in the lower third of the league as a kicker from what I can tell, which means he's not worth keeping a kickoff specialist for. If Carp was 'money' as he was in previous years, then it'd be a different story. Sorry Gay.

P: Good here, just need some better directional control/decision making at times (unless that's a coaching thing?)

I think we suffered a lot from injuries and depth problems this year. As well as obvious schematic and play calling issues.

I think our special teams staff needs to be revamped. I think Rex needs to go back to the drawing board on defense. And I think Roman/Tyrod need to work on better short yardage plays. We have a hard time picking up first downs at times, some of it is play design, some of it is Tyrod's current capability.

Give me a new young DL player or two, a LB or two, and maybe a solid FA safety, some health, and hopefully more comfort in our systems, and I think we're pretty solid overall.

So who do we rid ourselves of on this team? Heres my early list

- Thigpen and we all know why

- Carpenter- just not reliable enough and cant do kick offs

- Jordan Gay - a one trick pony who doesnt always get it done anyway

- Boobie Dixon- the guy flat out stink and takes dumb penalties

- Ron Brooks- why he is on an NFL team is baffling

- Mario Williams- too much money with little return

- Robert Woods- hes not a bonified number 2 and has fumbleitis

- 1/2 the offensive line- but which ones? Damn this has been a bad unit for too many years

-Crossman- he may be the worst ST coach in the game

- Dennis Thurman- he has to be held accountable for the dismal defense

Rex will get another year because thats the way it works

Whats your list? I kept some other obvious ones out for ya. Keep it light and fun please.

D. Thurmon should lead this bunch as the first out the door, then Boobie, Mario should stay because of what he can do if the coaches would let him !

No coach has used R. Woods correctly since he's been here & Carpenter is good just having a bad year kind of like the Bills ...

The O line is better than it's been in a while they just need to be more disciplined & i think some of it might be G/Ro's scheme with all the pulling & trapping & such just let the guys play with out all the extra junk !!

Very well thought out I like it. Mario may be a cap casualty- not enough bang for the buck. AW may never see the field again- so sad when that happens. Carp is def gone and so is Gay.

Smarter people than me have suggested Mario can be restructured. I think if he can to something reasonable, he's a good guy to keep around. Unless we somehow find someone as good, or better to replace him straight up.

My Gone list: Mario, Harvin, Lawson, Graham, Duke, Meeks, Brooks, Butler, Goodwin, Cyrus, carpenter, gay, dixon

Figure out a way to keep: Bradham, Incognito

MUST keep: Glenn

Let them play it out: EJ, KW (without Jackson - he's the only leader we had left), Leodis (need depth at corner and rex uses his safeties in man coverage a lot)

MUST add: a big plodding nose tackle. That way we don't have to rotate KW and dareus in at nose and can use them as the ends. 2 OLB's - pass rushing specialists are needed too. If we lose Bradham - we need another ILB to rotate in. I'd like a veteran signal caller guy out there. If AW leaves - we need a few safeties too. Especially since rex likes to play 3 every once in a while.

Was Incognito a one year deal? I think it was and the market may now be ripe for him to walk.

There's a time to go for a deep pass on 3rd and 4 but it's not in the fourth quarter when you're tied or trailing. If Roman had dialed up a high-percentage play on those downs instead the Bills might have had a chance at winning it.

Keep Woods, but more as a #3, bring in a 6'-5" WR who can catch as the #2 Woods and Hogan as 3 and 4 would be fine

Nice Point on Woods- I left the cap equation out. I would keep Woods also using your rationale. Centers are hard to come by so keeping Eric Woods makes sense. Maybe we can get Pettine back and Tabor as a consolation prize?

I would try to upgrade E Wood too. Not sure if it is feasible(centers are tough to find) but it would be something I would look into. I think he stinks. + I can't stand listening to him on the drive home from work on Mondays with Schopp & BD. Same friggen thing every week. Ah we didn't execute, too many mistakes, still got a lot of faith in the coaches, got to get ready for the next game, season is still not over blah, blah, blah.
