The 3/8's pole: If the season ended today...

Recommended Posts

Going to throw some things out there as we speed toward the bye week. If the season were to end today...

- Robert Woods, Seantrel Henderson, Duke Williams, Bacarri Rambo, EJ Manuel, Nigel Bradham, Percy Harvin, Cordy Glenn, Kyle Williams, Nickel Robey are all looking for work.. Woods is having a sub par year and has hurt the Bills with penalties more than he's helped them. The rest have just plain underperformed or in Harvin's case not shown up...

- Aaron Williams and Marquis Goodwin both retire....(another huge cap hit with A. Williams)

- Mario Wiiliams is a potential offseason cut after the date where they can spread the cap hit-- Even with taking the whole cap hit in 2016, its a $12 million net cap gain. Rex's system doesn't utilize his talents and the Bills can only afford one $100M D lineman.

- If Jerry Hughes didn't carry an $11.6 million dead cap hit -- he would be on the "looking for work" list. Another net negative contributor thus far.

- A football czar would be brought in....speculate that its someone Polian recommends -- the list includes Telesco, Caldwell if either are fired...and Whaley gets pissed and leaves.

- Danny Crossman would be let go/not retained

Things can turn around fast in the NFL....the Bills can go on a run and the team stays pat, restructures M. Williams and Clay and secures Taylor for the future-- this team is capable of winning seven to nine of the remaining 10 games, but this team has not played up to its capability nor has it been well coached.... Its time to turn it around or face a lot of player and front office turn over this offseason.

I can't believe this post generated a thread.

I can't believe I contributed to it.

Stopped reading when you mentioned KW. He's been excellent most of the year.

Maybe not so much on performance, but he's getting old and is far from untouchable, I can easily see him gone next year if there's a major shake-up.

Well seeing as the OP said, "Kyle Williams... just plain underperformed," I'd say he's talking about performance and he'd be wrong.

I can see Kyle being a cap casualty. But it's not because he's underperformed this year.

He's also a nut because cutting Woods would hurt us in the cap.

My bet is Aaron Williams being done - that neck issue ain't going away. Goodwin has a thin bone disorder - he's done.

The loss of EJ, John Rambo, The Duke of stasis, Seantrel Henderson, Nigel Bradham, Percy Harvin, Cordy Glenn is inconsequential.

Mario is at the end of his utility to the Bills as the playoff window closes on an aging defense due to the lack of a capable qb.

Kyle is old but affordable, Robey is effective, and Woods has been turned into a block first wr due to the lack of a capable qb.

This thread should be closed it does more harm then good. This team is in hot water because of Injuries and Rex not letting are Def line tee off

like there supposed too. That's it. let's not over react. We have a QB in TT and it's the best QB this Team has had since Bledsoe. So before you give up on the season after six games let's see what these boys can do. Man the bye week can't get here soon enough.

Yep, I posted this to troll...that was my sole goal. My first troll post in almost 20 years of posting. Look at the list again.

Woods-Has not played up to even a marginal standard for a number 2 last year or this and he is the Jerry Hughes of the defense. The Jets game in DET last year was the only game where he has been a true difference maker in the last 2. Bills need more out of a number 2.

Bradham--at least 2 critical missed tackles and from my game watch -- out of position a lot. FA who will not get a decent contract offer from the Bills

Glenn-FA who will not get an acceptable contract offer from the Bills

Robey-most picked on CB we have when he is on the field. His playing time diminishes greatly when Leodis comes back and his recent extension is not a deterrent.

Henderson-do we know how close he was to being cut when he came in out of shape and missed the first day of mini-camp? This is the one I admittedly am least sure about -- but the last two games he has had at least 5 ole blocks. The kid seems like he lost the intensity that made him a find last year. Thinks he's "arrived" after one year.

Manuel - Rex was being kind when he said the kid missed a couple of reads last week. He missed a lot of reads -- still a recognition problem. There are better QB's out there.

Duke Williams - Not a smart safety -- which is the key to Rex's defense

Aaron Williams - this is the 3rd year in a row he has a neck issue -- at some point in time he has to ask himself if he wants a life after football

Baccari Rambo - Good at centerfield but not in match up coverage. He does a fair amount of match up in this D and can't hack it.

Kyle Williams - I know a lot of folks love him--I do to ...but another season, another knee injury -- I think its the third year in a row. He may just hang it up. Also, while his snap count has stayed high this year 346/402 total defensive snaps -- there were three series last game pre-injury where he sat...a pretty significant reduction in snaps.

Mario-The cap hit may be large -- but you can spread it over two years...and this D simply doesn't use him. Him being present keeps Rex from implementing what he knows.

Bash away...but here's some reasoning for each guy on the list.

Pegula's are committed to Rex. Rex is the only element of this that has their stamp. Rex won't hesitate, after the experience in NY, to let Terry and Kim know that he doesn't have the players to implement his system on D and that Whaley has failed at QB and OL. Rex is the one who pushed for Taylor and Taylor may be a great find. These moves all free up money to sign Taylor, fix the OT position and get Rex the system players he wants on D.

Flame away...Also--read the last paragraph--there is a good chance this team turns it around...if they do maybe none of this happens...but from what I have seen thus far -- this team is not as close to playoff caliber as we hoped and wallowing in hope that guys come around or play better is a worse strategy than some significant changes in my opinion.

Where to start with this. I assume that you mean "Jerry Hughes" because he takes stupid penalties....the WHOLE TEAM is taking stupid penalties and Woods is not even the most frequent offender. Woods numbers are down so far this year (and of course....a smart person would take ONE season of status and equate it to the players career.......no....you guage players over their CAREER numbers. Robert Woods has been here 3 years.....in the previous two years his numberr are

2014 Buffalo Bills 16 65 699 10.8 43.7 37 5 2013 Buffalo Bills 14 40 587 14.7 41.9 57 3

Those ARE number 2 wide receivers numbers. The problem is we dont have a wide receiver on the team putting up number ONE wide receiver numbers right now. This is supposed to be Sammy Watkins who is injured. This offense is not biult around the type that had Eric Moulds and Peerless Prices have 1000 seasons with Drew Bledsoe at quarterback.

Bradham--at least 2 critical missed tackles and from my game watch -- out of position a lot. FA who will not get a decent contract offer from the Bills

Im gonna say this one time more and I feel this is acceptable to say stop with the friggen "this is gonna happen that is gonna happen YOU DO NOT KNOW UNLESS YOU WORK FOR THE BILLS...its irritating and frankly inciteful. Your just trying to draw a reaction and does not nothing to generate discussion......it kills it

Nigel Bradham has missed some tackles this year.....he is also a homegrown talent who has grown into a hard hitting enforcer linebacker who has made big plays for us....once again looking over the course of his career with us and not just THIS SEASON.......now will he get a big contract from us? I ALSO tend to think that he will not but not because he isnt a good player.....its because Doug Whaley is the linebacker whisperer or something........he finds linebackers......he is good at it. At a time when we will be managing cap direction to make sure guys like Gilmore get signed.......imo we wont keep everybody but that will work itself out.

Glenn-FA who will not get an acceptable contract offer from the Bills AHEM

Im on the fence about Glenn......I think he has reached his ceiling. In my opinion the BEST thing that can happen is he is retained.....Bradham allowed to leave....and then move Glenn to RIGHT TACKLE which I think he could be one of the best in the league......just dont know what is gonna happen yet.

Robey-most picked on CB we have when he is on the field. His playing time diminishes greatly when Leodis comes back and his recent extension is not a deterrent.

Please show me where Robey is being "picked on" when he is on the field......the guys that are gettng picked on are the safeties...that is the real problem......Robey has played pretty well and is on a modest contract.

You got no arguement from me about Henderson......I am just not impressed.....gets hurt every game too. They should just play Kujo to see what we have there to make a determination of how many OL we need to draft next year.

Manuel - Rex was being kind when he said the kid missed a couple of reads last week. He missed a lot of reads -- still a recognition problem. There are better QB's out there.

No....there really are not better QBs out there right now. Still generated the team to 21 points against the undefeated bengals. And missing your top WR targets HAS to be taken into consideration when evaluating a QB

Duke Williams - Not a smart safety -- which is the key to Rex's defense

Safeties are NOT the key to Rex Ryan defenses.......quality corners are. If you dont like what is happening now I can tell you this imo would be a complete tire fire if Gilmore and Darby were not playing so well. HOWEVER.....our safety position is so bad right now that is where we are being attacked. Duke Williams should never see the field. and would not if we were not decimated by injuries.

Aaron Williams - this is the 3rd year in a row he has a neck issue -- at some point in time he has to ask himself if he wants a life after football

If that neck issue were TRULY that serious the bills would not have let him play. They are showing a propensity to play it safe with their players which is good for long term longevity of the player. EASILY the best safety we have (which is something we need to address....you dont subract talent while trying to improve your team....you ADD to it

Baccari Rambo - Good at centerfield but not in match up coverage. He does a fair amount of match up in this D and can't hack it.

A hitter.....cant cover

Kyle Williams - I know a lot of folks love him--I do to ...but another season, another knee injury -- I think its the third year in a row. He may just hang it up. Also, while his snap count has stayed high this year 346/402 total defensive snaps -- there were three series last game pre-injury where he sat...a pretty significant reduction in snaps.

Mario-The cap hit may be large -- but you can spread it over two years...and this D simply doesn't use him. Him being present keeps Rex from implementing what he knows.

Kyle Williams imo is probably about to go the Fred Jackson route in Buffalo......you always try to anticipate when to get rid of these guys a year or two before they totally hit the wall. Its gonna be a tough cut but he is making pretty high coin. The question is......can the younger cheaper Charles come close to matching his productivity.

Bash away...but here's some reasoning for each guy on the list.

Why do you need someone to "Bash" your posts......it they were presented in a way that was not trying to incite there would be no bashing...it would just be your opinion and open to discussion?

Pegula's are committed to Rex. Rex is the only element of this that has their stamp. Rex won't hesitate, after the experience in NY, to let Terry and Kim know that he doesn't have the players to implement his system on D and that Whaley has failed at QB and OL. Rex is the one who pushed for Taylor and Taylor may be a great find. These moves all free up money to sign Taylor, fix the OT position and get Rex the system players he wants on D.

I find it interesting how people like to look where Whaley "failed".........for ANY GM IN THIS LEAGUE when the success outweighes the failures......that GM is not going anywhere because the alternative could be much worse where a GM comes in and totally screws up the success that has been biult. Doug WHaley has drafted WELL........he has made trades that have been home run hits......he isnt going ANYWHERE (In my opinion)

Why the disclaimer after all of these matter of fact statements on these players? We are 3-3......I see talk like this and I wonder if we have actually won a game this season. 10-6 is totally doable for a team that finished 9-7 last year and has been wallowing in 7-9 territory for a long long time.

By the way.....would not call Whaley a "Failure at QB" because frankly a 100 percent tyrod taylor has done pretty darn well......once again....injuries.

The usual suspects were included in the OPs rant, but I was confused with his inclusion.

The infatuation with sack totals will contribute to the downfall of any reasonable debate regarding this years D.

He has looked as explosive off the ball still. and gets those hands working when he rushes. Makes dareus look slow off the snap.

Way to go Kyle!

we would have less to argue about

see, this why you are so wrong!

j/k

we will always dig and find something to keep us divisive. Like the local media keeps ass-isting with.

Bitching and coming up some garage concepts of how to fix things is par for humanity.

Joe i dont care to project another rebuild. it's tiresome on the soul.

Just make it work OBD. sooner the better

Combined record of the teams buffalo lost to:

15-3

Combined record of the teams buffalo has beat:

6-10

Not really sure what that means except that we are probably an average to slightly above average team that should be 3-3 and will be fighting for a wild card spot with a record between 8-8 and 10-6.

Give Woods a chance. He's been making lots of unsung hero plays this season. Diving catch for TD vs Pats. Double pancake block to spring Tyrod's TD and superb punt coverage to pin back the Titans. He plays super physical and stays healthy. He might be the best possession receiver on the roster. We need more wideouts like Woods and less of them like... those who are always injured.
