Five hurt as Edmonton attacks spark terror investigation
Canadian authorities say two incidents in Edmonton are being investigated as acts of terrorism after a man struck a police officer with a car before stabbing him -- and later injured at least four pedestrians while driving a truck on a busy street.
There was an ISIS flag in the car, which has been seized as evidence, the police chief said.

EDMONTON TERRORIST IS A SOMALI REFUGEE

You have probably heard about last night’s terrorist attack in Edmonton. It began when a man driving a Chevrolet Malibu crashed through a police barrier associated with a sports event and struck an Edmonton police officer, throwing him 15 feet through the air. The terrorist, who had an ISIS flag in the front seat of his vehicle, then jumped out of the car and attacked the officer with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly.

The terrorist has now been identified as Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, a Somali national who was granted refugee status in Canada. Like most such terrorists, he is a “known wolf.”

Police chief Rod Knecht said at a Sunday afternoon news conference that the man, who came to the attention of law enforcement in 2015 for “espousing extremist ideology” is believed to have acted alone.

Sharif was on a “police watch list,” but apparently he wasn’t being watched closely enough.

It is worth noting that Somalia is one of the countries on President Trump’s travel ban order.

You guys are all over these small 'terror' attacks, yet literally crickets when an old white dude murders 50+ and causes 400+ injured.

<_<

Dude wasn't screaming Admiral Ackbar or waving a Confederate flag so maybe people aren't jumping to conclusions.

Doesn't really matter, we have a home grown mass violence issue in the US. Doesn't matter what their political or religious ideologies are, imo. We breed violence at a social level, and have a gun availability problem. The right (most here) pin everything on 'Islamic extremists'. The left pin everything on 'gun nuts'.

Guns have been around for centuries, crazy has been around forever. Mass murders with guns skyrocketed only in the last generation.

What has changed, and who's been driving that change?

Hey Dork !

I started the Islamic Terror thread as a way to show the OVERWHELMING number of them and how it is a clear signal that something needs to be done.

I am sorry that those victims murdered in "small terror" attacks aren't important enough for you.

As to Las Vegas, those intelligent enough have learned to wait and see before posting in PPP over mass murders. There is a thread already in Off the wall, I have posted there, I see you haven't.

Like I said, we have a social problem and a gun availability problem. They don't mix well. If we took better care of each other, promoted equality and inclusiveness, we wouldn't have as many mass murders. But also, if we basically banned guns, we wouldn't either (instead we'd be dealing more often with smaller scale knife attacks and the like, since the social problems would still be there).

Who said they weren't important to me? We also have mass murders almost every day in the US that *aren't* related to Islamic extremism. Also, I don't check off the wall, since that is usually about things like tv shows and the like, while PPP deals with current events. My apologies.

Still trying to register this morning's atrocity.

For Canada, it's a big deal, most around here feel they are superior because of the lack of terrorism to hit us, I certainly don't.

I fully admit that the smaller stuff doesn't really register for me any more (regardless of personal, political or religious motivation), since it's *so* common in the US now. Which, I guess speaks to my frustration over the bigger issues, we just don't care to address anything at a base level, instead we try to blame a religion, or a gun, when instead it very much has to do with divisiveness, inequality, and lack of healthcare (at least imo).

You specifically said mass shootings.

Explain how "promoting equality and inclusiveness" will reduce mass shootings.

Sure. When you feel mistreated, or intimidated by 'others', you are more likely to 'act out', for those at the extreme ends of life, acting out can be a mass shooting.

No, that's pop psychology constructed around a leftist narrative.

Show my the data and the studies, I'm not interested in your feelings.
