dave mcbride
he's great when healthy, and while he has been hurt a lot lately, it's not like we would be signing him for the long term. he won't be back with the raiders by all accounts. he's a big step up from bledsoe, and his game isn't terribly different from losman's as far as i can tell. how about this plan: dump bledsoe and pick up gannon. trade henry for a third resign jennings let pat w go - i'd love to see him stay, but DTs like him are so valuable and hard to find. i imagine he'll get a really big offer from someone. use the second rd pick on an outside LB use the 2 3rds on a guard/center and a running back use the 4th/5th to go after safeties/tight ends
Bill from NYC
Dave, I respectfully disagree wrt Gannon. He is too old with too many miles. Seriously, if Drew is gone, I would rather see Fiedler if he is available, and I think that he will be.

He and Gannon are the same age, aren't they? Seriously...no.

Seriously...no. 217208 he did look pretty good in the 2 full games he played this past year (he was exceptional against the bills). fiedler is not a bad move, actually. in any event, all of this goes to show that the bills will have some options that will be as good as bledsoe and a good bit cheaper. He should know about cold. Downstate people may like to pretend that we have this good climate, but I have been shoveling for 2 days. My wife shoveled for 1/2 hour. He just can't throw the ball in it. If the wind is blowing more than 10 MPH, Fiedler makes Ray Lucas look competent.

While they may see the field in a Bills uni, the writing is certainly on the wall that JP will be taking over their job soon enough. The goal, in my mind, is to find a QB who realizes that they are going to have to be a backup. These days, that's not always such a bad thing given injuries and inconsistent play. But let's face it, Holcomb, Couch, and Garcia are going to be looking for starting jobs next year. I think Gannon might actually be a decent choice. Despite the fact that Drew haters on this board have already voted JP into Canton, the Bills need another viable option at qb, one who has proven that he can play in the NFL, no? Bill from NYC
Doesn't Gannon fit that description? 217456 He does, but he is an old qb whose best asset was always mobility. He could not even beat out Kerry Collins, who, imo, is a poor mans' Drew.

Personally, I think the organization has something out for him because he was pretty outspoken last season.

He's always been an underrated QB and was the biggest reason the Raiders made the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.

I think Gannon might actually be a decent choice. 217269 Rubes, I am glad to see that somebody finally gets it. All seem to be assuming that all of these free-agent QB's, and free-agent QB's to be, will be frothing at the mouth to come and help JP Losman take their job from them. If Garcia does not stay in Clevland, he will end up in Detroit with his friend, Steve Mariucci. If Holcomb thinks that he is good enough to be an NFL starter, than god love him, but he is flat out awful...Couch may realize that he has a carreer as an NFL backup at this point, but don't forget, he couldn't even make the Packers roster, on team that was desperate for a back-up who would have very little chance of playing, given that Favre never misses a snap. Now, if we didn't already have a vetran QB, with lots of mileage under contract (that would be Drew Bledsoe!), Gannon might make sense. I use the term "might" very loosely. He is coming off a serious injury, and is pretty old. I heard somewhere along the regular season, that it was unlikely that Gannon would get a clean bill of health, and had visited three different spinal specialists, all whom strongly recommended that he retire... I have said it once, I will say it again, Drew Bledsoe is the best choice for the Bills (with the pay cut) for 2005, and Bledsoe will realize that the Bills are the best choice for him. He is not going anywhere next season! He is going to have to battle for the No. 1 job with Losman, and whoever performs better will get the job. The other will back him up, say all the right things, and make the best of it when their opportunity comes to play....
