Why Niagara Falls?

Recommended Posts

Bottom line is this:

An NF site will attract fans not just from all over the region, but from all over the world. The thought of taking in the falls, casinos, Canadian side with its restaurants and entertainment, and an NFL game sounds great to me. I haven't been back to WNY in years, but for this I'd certainly make the trip. Association with natural wonder and international clientele will bring in the highly coveted corporate luxury suite buyer. It's the key to maximizing the franchise's value to modern NFL standards and keeping in in WNY.

A Buffalo-site .... no matter where ... will not bring fans from all over the region and the world. Buffalo has next to no tourist income on its own .... as in zero.

Any new site will of course need some infrastructure adjustments. That some sites in Buffalo may require less is highly debatable as NF has a lot of under used capacity. But even if there are exceptions in Buffalo there's a damming reason: nobody (outside of the increasingly irrelevant old guard) wants to go there.

Another route in/out of Niagara Falls.

Route 190

Peace Bridge to Canada

QEW

Exit at 420

Park near Casino Niagara

Walk across the Rainbow Bridge.

And there is a train that could travel from Dunkirk thru Hamburg thru downtown Buffalo thru Tonowandas to Niagara Falls - this could become a major way of moving people to/from the games

Who is seriously going to cross international bordees 4 times to watch the bills in Niagara falls?

It will probably be quicker than going over the Grand Island bridges 4 times. As long at there isnt a back up, it literally takes 1 minute. Edited by ET1062

Well you have just one road, Route 1. Getting in isn't too bad since people filter in all morning, but after the game it takes 1-2 hours to get out of the stadium parking lots, again, because there is only one road to leave on. Imagine if everyone at RWS had to leave by Abbott Rd. only. That's what it's like.

Looks like it empties directly onto an interstate. You don't think that's relevant?

And please, don't compare Robert Moses with an interstate.

Not according to WEO. He's the expert.

It really does't require any expertise to conclude that NF is a long shot for so many obvious reasons, not least among them is a plan to have all of these coveted Canadians walk to the stadium.

Rt.1 is not an interstate although I-95 is just up the road. The point is all the stadium lots exit to just one road.

Exactly, makes it a hell of a lot easier to sell flying in from Europe to my girlfriend as well. Let's go see the Niagra Falls, while we're there we may as well catch a homegame or two... *cough*, where as let's go and see Buffalo doesnt seem to work (tried and tested).

Just to be clear, I would prefer downtown Buffalo. The OP asked why NF was being considered and I answered his question.

As for the walking Canadians thing that irks you so much, I'm not the only person suggesting it. Whether they walk, get shuttled over or ride in on unicorns, the point is it's faster to process people at a border when they aren't in vehicles.

Have you ever travelled to another country by plane? That's they kind of border check I'm talking about. And figure that some Canadian season ticket holders would apply for Nexus passes which would speed up crossing even more.

I'd wish you'd explain why you think Canadians are incapable of walking to the stadium. People walk a good mile or more to RWS from some lots now. But maybe you don't know that. Somehow I doubt you've ever been to a Bills game.

But they are like 10 minutes apart. Niagara Falls also decided to build chemical plants instead of attractions for a half a century which cannot be realistically reversed. I just dont see the connection in the attraction of the Falls and the stadium. Are all the foreigners taking in the falls suddenly going to decide to attend an NFL game on a whim or buy boxes? I dont think seeing the falls and needing a stadium walking distance are linked interests. Weather is generally crappy during football season anyways.

The goal is, and its headed that way over a ton of public and private development, is to make DT Buffalo an attractive and exciting place to be. There will be much to do with microbrews, restaurants, etc. It already has a lot more activity than even 5 years ago. I drove through last Friday and couldnt believe the amount of activity and people out and about downtown.

NF has nothing going on besides the typical chain-mall development at the Outlet Mall. NF USA is a decayed depressing place with nothing going for it.

With that said, in place in OP is the only realistic option without a lot of private money from the new owner(s)

to me, it's different in that situation, because walking to RWS usually entails an adult beverage or two for the walk. Crossing the border elminates that, and takes some of the fun out of that 1-2 mile walk.

Here's a bulletin: that's illegal to do in OP too. I think you overestimate the number of people drinking as they walk.

Also, most of that current Canadian clientele goes to games for the party and the cheap booze. At least the ones possibly willing to walk 1-2 miles. The suits/tame fans wont want to walk that far typically. Where is the parking for these walkers going to be anyways?

First there is a rail line from Toronto to NF, ON so some can take the train in. Also figure some Canadians would tailgate at the bars and restaurants there before games. That Kryk article also suggested that sites in the US side could offer tailgate packs for sale. But really the Bills would probably prefer they just do their tailgating at an in-stadium bar, which I'm sure the new stadium will have several.

When you are trying to attract a new group of Canadian fans (there is no other reason to explain a stadium in NF), a selling point is not "and you can walk to the stadium from your country!".

I've been to many Bills games--both by party bus (park in bus lot) or car (park on nearby private property or lot). Why would I chose to walk 1 or 2 miles to the stadium?

Crossing into the US is not a speedy process, as you know, unless, perhaps, you have Nexus. I'm not irked by ambulating Canadians. I just don't think it's a....powerful selling point worth mentioning.

Oh I'm well aware, I've waved and said hi to many law enforcement officers while walking with a drink/drinks in my hand :nana:

Crossing into Canada is easy, getting into the US, even for Americans is a pain in the ass
