Another loss of freedom!

Hey, The department of energy has a budget of what, about $30 billion per year? This has to be one of their signature accomplishments.

It is awful. Low income people might be forced to live in the dark if they can't afford the fancy new high priced bulbs. They may be forced to choose between food, healthcare or illumination. That creep Bush didn't provide a subsidy on the higher priced mandated product.

Do I have to buy that seperatly now?

nope, it's conveniently included in all the newer twisted fluorescent lights mandated to replace incandescent bulbs, so thanks to the democrats you no longer have to look in two places for household illumination and mercury vapor.

We need a federally-mandated state-level online marketplace that allows low-income people who find a lack of incandescent bulbs a hardship a place to by expensive CFL bulbs at competitive, federally subsidized prices and not get gouged by the bad apples in the light bulb industry. Unless they already have incandescent light bulbs...if you like your incandescent light bulb, you can keep it*. Period.

*does not apply to incandescent light bulbs.

The press has really done its job on this one:

Majority of Americans still in the dark about incandescent light bulb phase-out.

“The Jan. 1 deadline to end production of 60- and 40-watt incandescent light bulbs is fast approaching, but most Americans aren’t even aware that their traditional light sources will soon become a rare commodity, according to one consumer survey.”

What, you missed the nine-page, in-depth NYT investigation that concluded incandescent light bulbs will still be available?

Bush bad?

But seriously this was one craptastic law. When it was passed LEDs were nowhere near commercially viable and the law's hopes were pinned to CFLs, which were and are a horrendous replacement to incandescent. The LED will end up saving the asses of the idiots who passed the laws and few brain dead in the press outside the WSJ would point out the insanity of the law.
