Saw "This is the End" last night. Very funny movie. I know there are some here that do not care for Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill, but I think most people will appreciate this doomsday comedy.

Saw it the other day, it was a good "must see" movie.

It helps that the actors are playing themselves.

I guess you missed the disclaimer at the end of the credits that "All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental."

Wow, I just checked the rating and I am stunned that it's that low.

What were people expecting, the meaning of life?

Seems like moviegoers are loving it more than critics. The IMDB comments are highly positive. We'll just have to wait for the Cinemascore grade.

I really enjoyed "Man of Steel", and I look forward to more from this franchise.

I was pretty stoked for the last one with B.Routh, especially since Kevin Spacey was in it, but it left me really flat. If that happens again with this one, I'll really be surprised. I've liked most of what Nolan and the other guy have done in the past, so I'm still optimistic that it will entertain me. The one consistent bit of praise I've heard is for Michael Shannon, so I can't wait to see what he does with the Zod character.

I think tonight I'm going to watch "Snitch" with the Rock. This guy is really on a roll lately. Snitch got pretty good reviews, Pain and Gain (I think that's what it's called) seems to also be pretty well received. The new FAst and Furious film has solid reviews, and then he's also got his new tv show that I saw last week called "The Hero". This guy has really become a major commodity.

Grown ups 2 looks good

They're really making another one? I was so turned off by the first one...I don't know who wrote that, but I don't recall laughing once. With that cast, I don't see how in the world they could make an unfunny movie. I'm usually a fan of all those guys and I've seen pretty much every film they've been in, alone or together.

I doubt you will be disappointed with "Man of Steel". Shannon does a great job as Zod. Amy Adams & Russell Crowe do a good job too. There is definitely a "Batman Begins" approach to this story, and I was surprised at how much of a sci-fi angle they went with this movie.

Do you also plan on seeing the G.I. Joe sequel too? The Rock is in that also.

I put "Grown Ups 2" along with "Kick-Ass 2". Sequels that nobody was asking for.

Saw Man if Steel today. The action sequences were amazing and Henry Cavill, I thought did an excellent job, along with Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe.

I liked how the story played out as well. Certainly was just an opening film to what I think and hope they want to expand on.

Wow, a documentary on Morton Downey, Jr? Count me in for that...I saw him live in Rochester back in the late 80s...that guy was entertaining as hell

Vader: Yep, I definitely want to check out the Rock in that new GI Joe flick. I almost went to the theater to see it, but seemed like the reviews were poor, so it was relegated to a rental. I'm looking forward to Snitch, though....I'll let you know how it is.

Thanks for the info on the indies. They are the best films around. The studios are dying

First off, your welcome.

Second, yes the indies do give us a lot of the best, but the mainstream studios still deliver good movies, you just have to find them.

Third, the studios are far from dying. The studios own or have created their own independent studios.

Paramount has Paramount Vantage.

Columbia/TriStar has Sony Pictures Classics.

20th Century Fox has Fox Searchlight.

Universal has Focus Features.

Warner Bros. has Picturehouse.

Even Lions Gate, a former independent studio has become big enough to purchase Summit Entertainment & Roadside Attractions, and Relativity Media owns Rogue Pictures.

How else do all these independent films get such big name actors?

Studios like IFC Films, Samuel Goldwyn Films, Image Entertainment, Newmarket Films & Magnolia Pictures are some of the few truly independent film studios around.

I must admit, ever since I heard that Man Of Steel was being made, I constantly repeat, "please don't suck, please don't suck" over and over again. Then the reviews came out and alarm bells started ringing, as most of them were not all that good. That being said, I got to see Man of Steel this weekend.

This movie most definitely does NOT suck!

I am quite pleased with it. I would not really consider myself a fanboy, but I know quite a bit about the character, and I was never a fan of the late 70's and 80's versions with Christopher Reeve. They were just too campy and corny for my taste. Of course, this is completely in character with the comics of the day, but I was more into the John Byrne reboot after the Crisis, which was much, much more appealing to me, and seemed to make more sense for the character. However, at the end of the day, we are speaking about an alien with superpowers, so how much realism are you looking for?

I thought Henry Cavil did a fantastic job, he certainly looked and acted the part. The kids playing young Clark were convincing as well. All in all, everyone in this movie was pretty fantastic, and there were no irritating or out of place characters (like cyclops or the kid in "Returns" ) that I could see.

Which brings me to Michael Shannon as General Zod. I think he was fine, but no one can ever be as epic as Terrance "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD" Stamp.

,

I am also not sure why everyone was ripping the movie for being "dark" or too Batman like, I did not get that at all. One thing missing is the dumb humor which I though hurt the other Superman movies. Well, that and the creepy stalker Superman from "Returns".

I judge if a movie was good or not based on whether I would be interested in seeing a sequel and this most definitely (unlike Into Darkness, sadly) makes me excited to see what happens next...

I get the feeling people wanted to see a WIll Smith movie instead.

oh yeah, thanks for reminding me.

Another thing that surprised me, did you notice Jon Peters was involved? I find that interesting based on Kevin Smith's comments about him during the failed "Death of Superman" movie he was writing for him in the 90's.

And it's gonna suck. If only because it's got fast zombies. I'm not against fast zombies in principle...but putting them in this movie misses the whole point.

Plus everyone knows that "fast zombies" is just a myth. :D

Makes me wonder what the definition of an "independent" studio is.

There were a good number of independent studios, but when 4 of the 5 best picture nominees of 1996 were all from independent film studios, all the major studios began to purchase them.

As a result the indies got more revenue to make more movies and the big studios got more awards.

Even the small films that premiere at the festivals like Sundance, Cannes & Toronto get picked up by big studios so they will have a real chance at being released theatrically.

There are still some independent studios that are not owned by the big studios, unfortunately a good amount of their films go unnoticed.
