Our team's problem is not the head coach.

Until you get a stud QB you have no chance. Look what Indy did without a head coach this year.

I like Chan, but I think his time has passed. He doesn't seem to be able to adapt to changes that defenses make to his game plan during the game and that makes him ill suited to be even an OC. He seems to be a good man and a nice guy, but maybe he needs to retire from football.

Sure I wish him the best. I can't say the same about Dick Jauron, as I thought he was, well, kind of like a corpse. I also know from an extremely reliable source that he didn't tip well.

For some reason, I will pull for Chan. I think he was sincere as a man and I appreciated the way he answered questions with the media. He's the kind of guy who will look you straight in the eye. Good luck to him.

edit: also, Chan was in tears when he learned he was fired. Bills fans have to appreciate that kind of emotion. You want your head coach to care that much, don't you? He's an older guy, and he's behind the curve. But certainly, I think it's easy to cheer for him...

I am pulling for Chan and hopes he finds another home. I like that he was progressive, I didn't like that he was trying insert a square peg in a round hole. There are NFL teams with the personnel that Chan could excel with as an OC. At the end of the day show me a good coach and I'll show you a good QB. Good luck Chan.

It was time for Chan to go, no question. That being said, I liked Chan, he seems like a good man. To my knowledge there were no major gaffes such as Jauron's "It's hard to win in the NFL." The players seemed to speak very favorably of him as well. Hell, Stevie even sounded choked up on his WGR interview.

In his comments the other day he said he would be 'pulling for' the Bills. I'd like to see him have some success as a coordinator somewhere. I don't think he is going to be a HC in the near future at the NFL level, and he is no spring chicken. That being said, best of luck to Chan.

Yes. Good guy.

Think he would do best to just be a position coach, would probably do really well there. He coudn't even keep a job as a coordinator just months before the Bills hired him as HC. It would however be nice to see him be Bill Belichecks successor, let him sink that ship.

Yea, he seems like a good guy, but alot of the so called pros who said he often got too hung up on gadgets and trick plays were spot on. I think so many people calling him an offensive genius when he got here went to his head.

Yet Chris Peterson and Chip Kelly are in demand here.

Chandler seems like a great guy. No head coach in the NFL tries to do anything other than win (except last year's Colts, but that's a different topic). Chan just isn't very good at it, that's all.

That said, I hope wherever he lands ... if it's in the NFL ... that he sucks and his team does, too. The more other teams that suck, the closer the Bills are to getting back to the playoffs.

Go Bills!

Similar sentiments here. He's a class act and I wish him nothing but the best. And having been unemployed myself, I always feel for people in similar circumstances - but in Chan's case, he won't be poor, he still has a year or 2 on his contract at about $1MM per year - he'll be OK and I hope he catches on somewhere!!

I'm probably going to get crap for this, but here it is anyways. I think the guy did a good job as offensive coordiantor. Yes, I would have liked to have seen Spiller get the ball more. On the other hand however, the offense did fairly well considering the QB and the overall talent level. I think the biggest mistake he made was switching back and forth between the 3/4 and the 4/3, and his defenisve coordiantors should have done better.

I'm certainly not going to give you crap, Auburn. By the way, my son's teacher is an Auburn grad. Anyway .. what I would like to know is why do you think Chan is a good offensive coordinator?

I ask every single person who makes that claim, and no one ever wants to answer.

Personally, I think if we had a better play caller, we would have had a better record. I thought he was horrible.

I am interested in what makes you (and many, many others) think he's this "offensive genius."

Thanks!

Possibly the silliest post I have seen here. This team with it's current roster, with better coaching would have made the playoffs this year. Better coaches would have realized that Fitz was not the answer long ago and gotten a better QB. Better coaches would have made better decisions that make the difference in winning and losing close games. This team lost winnable games this year and that comes down to coaching.

He won't starve. He's getting paid one more year anyway. Most of us would be set for life with just one year of an NFL coaches salary. But Chan could get a job if he wants. Maybe not in the NFL but at a college. I hope he does well.

This.

Once these gents break into the fraternity, they're good for a career's worth of very well-paying jobs of questionable impact ... at least until some ownership group figures out that the incremental value of another "adjunct assistant running backs specialist" or the like (a/k/a "real football guys") isn't anywhere near worth the investment. That day will come, but probably not for another generation.

I'm not going to go as far as you because I think Gailey coached scared this year. But I will agree with your underlying premise.

Absolutely. Other than his results on the field, I liked everything about the guy. Class act all the way. Remember his "you insult one of us, you insult all of us" tirade against some dumbass teenagers at his first training camp?

Well said. While I was definitely for him getting the axe, I really did like him as a person. I wish him the best.
