He's got to get pressure from the front 4 as many others have pointed out. Not true. I have seen a couple of blitzes by Shep and an occasional CB. Not often. Only a couple of times but they do seem to do it when you least expect it. They will blitz. Just not often. I say we rush 10 and drop 5 into coverage. If they still had the replacement refs we could get away with it. Darn NFL they ruin all my great ideas! That's 15 guys on the field and a penalty. He is too good.....too fast on the release.....too accurate..... You gotta mix it up.....and as a base defense you have to be able to get pressure SPECIFICALLY UP THE MIDDLE PRESSURE.....Brady doenst like it when he doesnt have a pocket to step up into...... Beating Brady is a mater of making him uncomfortable in the pocket sending no more than your base 3 or 4 rushers. Brady has the fastest release in the game, and if you blitz him consistently he will eat you alive underneath on his hot reads. Blitzes against Brady must be rare, well timed, and well concealed (he varies his snap count religiously and frequently uses hard counts to flush out blitz packages) if he knows they're coming it's like playing the game on "easy". He's said numerous times in his career that he believes the best teams and best QBs will beat the blitz more often than not... and that those are the teams you will have to beat to win championships. His pass defense is old school. You a) take away the QBs first read by tight press coverage or by confusing him at the LOS and then b) the DL gets pressure on the QB before he can get to his second or third reads. You keep 7 in coverage so that you don't give up big plays. Whether it can work in today's NFL, with the OLs allowed to hold and with so many spread offenses that try to limit the amount of disguise a defense can throw at the QB, this season must tell. NewEra Posted September 29, 2012 Share Posted September 29, 2012 In the Super Bowl, the Giants had success by rushing three or four guys, and dropping the rest back into coverage. Brady had nowhere to throw the ball! If you're going to use a strategy like that, you have to have your DBs play tight coverage. That's the #1 thing required to make that strategy work; and the one thing without which it cannot possibly work. Brady will destroy you if you play soft coverage in a scheme like that. (Much like Sanchez did to us a few weeks ago. Except that what Brady would do to us would be worse than what Sanchez did.) Take away anywhere for Brady to throw the ball. Then rely on your front four to generate a good pass rush. If you want to confuse the offense, have the DL do a lot of stunts; and do some sneaky things with some of the guys in coverage. A strategy like that can contain the Patriots' offense, at least if you have the right players in place to execute it. I think the Bills have a pretty good bunch in place, though I'm still a bit nervous about the pass coverage. I'm not advocating blitzing all day, I just think that mixing in the blitz (more often than vs the jets) will put the Pats play caller under more pressure. When you do the same thing over and over on defense it's to the advantage of the offense because they know what's coming. If we're able to shut them down rushing 3-4 guys all day, I'll be surprised. The jets we able to nullify our pass rush by giving the Oline help with the TE and Rbs. It didn't help that we were playing off man (something ill never understand, especially vs Sanchez). If we're going to rush 3-4 vs Brady, we better be playing tight coverage and our help defenders better be on their game. I'm just not confidant that our LBs are able to be consistent enough over the entire game to give the CBs the support they need. Only time will tell. Brady is excellent at picking apart blitz schemes but he also is human and will get rattled with pressure. I'm not sure how much the Bills will blitz but I expect them to stunt a lot more than they have in the first three weeks. Yes he is good at identifying the blitz, but the second part of that coin is the Pats* OL was really good at picking up the blitz. Its been pretty obvious that the Pats* OL isn't nearly as good as they used to be, therefore it stands to reason that maybe blitzing Brady now makes perfect sense. If the Bills are able to apply pressure without the blitz, then obviously the Bills don't need to blitz. But maybe this newer Pats* OL needs to be tested and still prove they can pick up the blitz as well as they did in the past. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When NE figured out (or woke up) and started containing our front 4, Wannie's reaction was to keep playing the same scheme while it was getting picked apart. After going up 21-7, we played like a prevent instead of going for the jugular. Not only the front 4, but the coaches let the team and the fans down, with a collossal fail.
