A Maryland Democratic candidate quit her congressional race Monday after her own party told state officials that she had committed fraud by voting in both Maryland and Florida in recent elections. In a story ignored by the national media, in April a Tunica County, Miss., jury convicted NAACP official Lessadolla Sowers on 10 counts of fraudulently casting absentee ballots. Sowers is identified on an NAACP website as a member of the Tunica County NAACP Executive Committee. Sowers received a five-year prison term for each of the 10 counts, but Circuit Court Judge Charles Webster permitted Sowers to serve those terms concurrently... ...Sowers was found guilty of voting in the names of Carrie Collins, Walter Howard, Sheena Shelton, Alberta Pickett, Draper Cotton and Eddie Davis. She was also convicted of voting in the names of four dead persons: James L. Young, Dora Price, Dorothy Harris, and David Ross. ….The NAACP has had other problems with voter fraud. The NAACP National Voter Fund registered a dead man to vote in Lake County, Ohio, in 2004. I love how the argument against these laws was that nobody had evidence of any real voter fraud. So when faced with evidence implicating The People's Party, the argument now is that both sides do it. You may remember this lady............ Voter ID Challenger “Happy As a Clam” to Get Free ID in Pennsylvania In another victory for voter ID, last week a Pennsylvania district court rejected a challenge to stop the state’s new voter ID law from going into effect before the upcoming presidential election. Now the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Viviette Applewhite, the lead plaintiff in the case who claimed that she would be unable to vote because of the new law, has obtained a voter ID. One day after the new law was upheld, Applewhite used a combination of her Medicare card, a state Department of Public Welfare card, and other documents showing her current address to obtain a free ID. This latest development highlights the fact that requiring photo ID is not an onerous restriction or a “poll tax,” as Attorney General Eric Holder has erroneously asserted. Pennsylvania’s law will help prevent fraud in elections, and the state has a checkered past when it comes to voter fraud. The challengers claimed that the requirement to present photo ID in order to vote would disenfranchise close to 9 percent of registered voters whom they purportedly could not obtain an ID without being severely burdened. The judge roundly rejected this claim. This year, the repubs fought like hell to make sure Ron Paul would not rock the boat for their party-line candidate.; in 2004 the dems made sure Kerry would get the nomination and went after Howard Dean after his infamous yell. I live in Allegany County here in WNY, and there are thousands of Amish living here. They all have ID, that they use (just like everyone else) for their banking, shopping and medical needs. As to your Mennonite example, those people are CHOOSING not to get the ID (As is their right) No one is depriving anyone of the right to vote. ID is free and available. Amish have been termed “armchair Republicans”, and are seen to be more sympathetic to the Republican party due to a perception of it as one more concerned with religion and traditional values. Though voting is not common, some Amish follow political news and many have and share opinions on politics and politicians. --- that is what I posted.
