Buffalo Bills are really deep at Offensive Line and Defensive line

When looking at some possible 53 man rosters configurations it is getting clear that the Bills O-Line, yes that is an O is getting really deep on paper.

If you believe that Pears and Urbik played well in 2011 (which you should if you're paying attention) and if you believe that Cordy Glen is NFL ready (which you shouldn't because he has to prove that) and if you believe that Zebrie Sanders has some major potential (which you should because he is smart, athletic and has some major potential) then the Bills are going to have some tough cuts after training camp.

Asper, Mark OL 6-7 325 26 R Oregon

69 Jasper, Michael G 6-4 375 25 1 Bethel College (Tenn.)

76 Rinehart, Chad G 6-5 321 26 5 Northern Iowa

60 Urbik, Kraig G 6-5 324 26 3 Wisconsin

62 Vermiglio, Jake G 6-5 339 24 1 North Carolina State

68 Williams, Keith G 6-5 330 24 1 Nebraska

67Levitre, AndyLG6-230525 4Oregon State

74 Brown, Colin C 6-7 326 26 2 Missouri

70 Wood, Eric C 6-4 310 26 4 Louisville

79 Pears, Erik RT 6-8 316 29 5 Colorado State

71 Young, Sam RT 6-8 316 24 3 Notre Dame

75 Hairston, Chris LT 6-6 330 23 2 Clemson

Sanders, Zebrie OT 6-6 318 22 R Florida St

Glenn, Cordy OT 6-5 343 22 R Georgia

Not all the guys can make the 53 man roster. Its also possible these guys aren't going to pass through Waivers.

Buddy Nix, Whaley and Gailey are clearly Building the team from the Lines out.

If you look at the Defensive side, it is a complete crapshoot after Williams, Williams, Dareus, Anderson\Kelsay now that we are moving to a 4-3

But the defensive cuts we make on the D-Line, are going to be gobbled quickly by other teams, there just isn't enough room.

I think its a pretty enviable situation to be in.

I know its early and I know its just on paper but seriously the is this the first time in over a decade where this team has the NFL Beef it needs to compete and not got pushed around.

Are we really putting Batten and Eddins at DE? They should be LBs...

Don't forget Andy Levitre to your list of O-linemen.

Wow! How can I miss him.

I hope this isn't a bad omen for his contract extention talks, that should by going on ASAP.

That's from bb.com.

The DE/DT/LB situation will be fluid until October.

All the guys will have an opportunity to prove they deserve a spot, whatever that may be.

You forgot our 6th rd selection Mark asper.

Also, we have 10 WR's (Including Brad Smith) and 9 DB's...

Breaking down the OL a little more systematically: (assumes no major injuries or surprises)

Assuming everyone is healthy, training camp will probably open

Hairston-Levitre-Wood-Urbik-Pears

Glenn will wind up taking one of the starting T spots, or at worst be the #3T.

Most teams keep 9 OL, so that leaves 3 spots left. Ideally you would like a mix of proven vets and developing young players among your backups. Competing for these 3 spots you have:

Rinehart

Brown

Sanders

Asper

Jasper

Young

(everybody else)

Sanders will need to look good enough in preseason that the coaching staff decides they can't risk trying to put him on the practice squad. That might wind up bumping Rinehart or Brown off the roster,

Looks like Asper and Jasper will be competing for the last roster spot, with Young and everybody else just there in case somebody gets hurt.

He is the first guy on the list.

Yeah the Bills being deep at CB is kind of what they're known for, see Greer, Jabari

But actually having Beef upfront on both sides of the ball is not what the Bills are known for.

This is a significant change for this organization.

Just imagine the camp battles of Rinehart vs Heard, I think Heard showed a few flashes in 2011 and Rinehart looked capable but now the roster is loaded. These two will be battling just for a roster spot.

Expect some ferocity and fights in August.

The lines look to be in good shape at least eight or nine deep. I would think the cuts on the lines will come pretty quick. If I were advising the second tier linemen, I'd say its time to put on your game face and come nasty....or you'll be looking at your next career sooner rather than later.

you can add these to OL to that list, signed as UFDA:

Paul Madsen, OL, Colorado St

David Snow, C, Texas

Buddy Nix told WGR today that Madsen had good grade on him. (I suppose that means draftable?)

Seriously? I can't see any possible scenario where Rinehart gets the boot. He played well when called upon, and he's versatile.

Jasper hasn't done a damn thing, so unless he suddenly emerges as a viable talent, he gets the PS again. As for Asper, he's a project, and I imagine he'll likely end up on the PS as well, unless there are injuries or he amazes everyone in camp. Brown is the guy I'm not sure about. But if they go with 9 OL it will likely be the five starters, Glenn, Rinehart, Sanders, and either Brown or Asper.

He's going nowhere, the guy played LG and RG and the offense didn't miss a bit. He plays with the nastiness that I don't see Urbik playing with (and I like Urbik btw)

I thought Brown did well in the season finale against Wilfork, he will have to prove himself again in TC.

I would have to second that comment.

Brown was an extremely pleasant surprise for me last year; as I have so accustomed to Bills players being blown up when they first get on the field.

He was a reminder for even me that Modrak and Co. are long gone, and Nix has this ship heading rapidly in the right direction.

I don't see what everyone is shocked about on this post.

Nix has been clear that one of the biggest things the Bills want to do this offseason was get bigger and stronger.

I love this competition for positions! Should bring out the best in all of the players and carry over right into the season.

It's about friggin' time!!!

GO BILLS!!

I don't think anyone beside Glenn, Wood & Levitre are guaranteed a roster spot in 2012.

I agree that it is very likely that Pears & Reinhert are retained but their spots are far from guaranteed with gigantic young prospects like Brown & Sanders breathing down their necks.

Beef!
