Chargers favored by 7

Vegas has the Chargers beating the Bills by 7 points. And on top of that, every San Diego media outlet seems to think that the Chargers will steamroll our team. We're back to being some kind of pushover again.

Last time I checked, the Chargers are also 5-7. And the only win they have in the last 2 months is against a team that had their head coach fired the same week.

I would love to see these Bills players get fired up and make a statement. Tell your fans that you're not the same Bills as last year, and that you want to win.

The problem is we have NO PASS RUSH!! And noone on our team can cover Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates especially if Aaron Williams does not play. This could seriously get ugly. Knowing how weak our defense is, Fitzie HAS TO step up and make plays all game long. He needs to play his best game of the season-equal to Phillip Rivers, if we are to have a chance. So what is everyone's prediction? A blow out here, and we have to seriously start thinking about replacing good ole Chan, who for the life of me I can not figure out why anyone on this board thinks is a good coach.

Yup the only way we win this is like the NE game. Our offense has to throw down ridiculous amounts of points and hope the Defense makes an uncharacteristic stop, or get a few turnover.

Rivers has had some bad games, but he was also beat up by pass rush, which is something we do not have. I'll go into Sunday thinking we have a shot, but my expectations are low.

Oh please knock it off.

Five weeks ago Chan was a genius! Then we lose to the Jets and didn't show up in Dallas or Miami. Then we play pretty well in NY, but lose - (historically most teams are lucky to win 1 game in a 3 game road trip, unless they're a top-5 team: source NFL Network)

Then we played Tennessee (Chris Johnson decides to play for a 2nd consecutive week!). If we didn't have 10 starters on IR - I think we beat Tenn & the Jets.

I won't be surprised if we win in SD. Rivers lays an egg just when you start calling him elite & as mentioned above, they only beat a reeling Jacksonville team that not only lost its coach, but got sold too.

We need to look at the last 4 games as getting our young guys ready to make serious contributions next year and beyond.

The Chargers O-line is beat up. I think Dareus has a big game this week. Who knows, even Moats might have an impact.

I think Scott can cover Gates. He's lost a step this year, but he's still dangerous. Scott has the height and speed to stick with him. The real issue will be, can Florence cover Vincent Jackson, and Rogers cover Malcolm Floyd? Florence used to play for the Chargers, so I hope he shows some desire out there on Sunday. This will be a challenge. It's good to have Wilson back though, I think he can pick off one of Rivers' floaters over the top.

The Chargers also have weak linebackers and a pass rush as bad as ours. We should be feeding Spiller the rock and dropping screens to him often. And Fitz will have time to hit Stevie deep if they want as well.

Should be a close game either way. I can see our guys stepping it up this week.

If the Bills run a lot, and successfully, the Bills have a decent chance.

They have to keep the ball out of Rivers hands or the Bolts will put up an ungodly number of points on the Bills D.

If the Bills pass a lot and have a lot of 3-and-outs it is going to get very ugly very early.

It's going to have to be Spiller-time in my opinion if there is any chance of a Bills W.

"Vegas has the Chargers beating the Bills by 7 points."

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

This is one of the most misunderstood numbers in sports. The betting line is not a measure of which team is better than another. This mistake is repeated ad nauseum by idiots on ESPN daily.

The betting line is an attempt by the Vegas bookmakers to get equal betting action on both sides. The bookies would love to get 50% of the total money bet on each side. They adjust the betting line to induce more action on one side or the other. For example, if they get $50k bet on the Bills and 100K bet on the Chargers they might increase the point spread from +7 to +8 to get more people to bet on the Bills and even their books. If the bookies get even betting on both teams they take their 10% commission risk free regardless of who wins the game. If they get lopsided betting on one side they risk losing money if that side wins. Casinos and bookies don't like to lose money so they adjust the line to get balanced betting.

If the point spread says Buffalo is getting 7 points against San Diego it has nothing to do with which team is better than the other!! They are NOT saying SD is 7 points better than Buffalo!!!

True, but the two aren't as different as it may seem at first. Vegas sets the line thinking in order to get half the money bet on the Bills it will take an enticement of 7 points. Which means that Vegas feels half the bettors (assuming each bettor bets an equal amount of money for simplicity) believe that SD is about 7 points better. If they make the line higher too much money gets bet on the Bills. Lower and too much gets bet on the Bolts. So in effect, Vegas thinks that the betting public thinks that the bolts are the better team by 7 points.

The Jets destroyed us when we had 7 (actual) starters on IR. I really doubt the Jags were "reeling" from losing Del Rio--more like a sigh of relief. They don't yet have a new owner, but they didn't really care on Sunday.

Need to get a pass rush, which is quite possible with the wreck of an O-Line that the Chargers have and the total lack of time that Rivers had a couple weeks ago against Denver. I think we are unfortunately getting the Chargers at a bad time, when some key players (Malcolm Floyd) are getting healthy, and they still have something to play for, and when they are starting to click as an offense. It will all come down to whether we can pressure into sacks and INTs or not. If our sack and INT numbers are low or non-existent I have a tough time seeing us winning this. That said, I see a 4 sack, 2 INT day and a Bills win.

Go Bills.

In order for the Bolts to only get 17 either:

1) The Bills need to run the ball VERY effectively and eat all kinds of clock.

or

2) The D gets all kinds of breaks like they did against the Pats in that very wonderful 4 INT by Marcia game with passes hitting players in the head and into DBs hands for pic-6. [i get teary eyed just thinking about it].
