Who is responsible for the collapse and how do we fix it?

Recommended Posts

Rash of injuries

Lack of depth

Losing vets to avoid paying them / way under cap

Wasteful conversion to 3-4D which sapped our draft and free agent capacity

Premature extension of Fitz

No identity on defense

Reasons behind this:

Chan being a system guy on offense and defense

Ralpl trying to build a winner on the cheap

Nix way over rated as an assesor of talent and trying to prove his chargers heritage is superior

Injury riddle methinks comes from working players too hard during the week -- I don't know there's something wrong here, too much of a pattern to deny

Maybe because entering the season Dareus in the only guy starting from 2 drafts? Or because its true. Well we can count Sheppard after a few games. So thats 2 starters in 2 drafts. Buddy should have this turned around in 11 years or so then.

His post wasn't clear as to whether that sentence referred to all players on the team or those drafted under Nix; based on what was written, I thought he was referring to the whole team as having just one legitimate starter: Dareus.

Buddy Nix - lack of player depth, extending Fitz midseason, drafting and signing gimmicky free agents instead of positional needs like -ol, linebacker etc. Overall mediocre to poor drafts. Really the only player that is starter material is Dareus.

We are in a lot of trouble folks. The sad thing is, as bad as our defense has been our offense is just as bad and our head coach does not seem to be able to utilize many of players that we consider to have "potential".

If Nix is responsible for the collapse, then who is responsible for their start? I think their overall major problem is a lack of depth which you touched on. Which could be blamed on only having 2 off seasons with which to build the roster.

I concur with this. Teams starting at ground zero can scarcely expect to have a good starting lineup and good depth

in 1 year. I would like to see a bit more aggressiveness in FA, but that is not the major problem here. The fact is that

the cupboard was COMPLETELY bare when Nix and Gailey arrived. Chan worked miracles getting this team off to a fast

start. However, it is not his, nor Nix's fault that they lost their starting C and their top 2 LTs (who were questionable

themselves). There is no way to really blame them or the OL coach for not being able to patch together an OL after all

the injuries they have dealt with.

Today, Fitzpatrick and the O had no chance when getting the shotgun snap was a major adventure on every play.

Now, the D is truly AWFUL and has better talent than that. They could/should be a middle of the league defense, IMHO.

I know that they lack pass rushers, but this is ridiculous. They get NO pressure on the opponent's QB. When Tony

Romo and Matt Moore look like world-beaters in two consecutive weeks, it is all on the pass rush.

Well injuries are huge. Bell, Williams, Merriman, Wood, Parrish, Wilson.

Trading Lee Evans and putting Jones in his place was just plain dumb.

Fitz has not been the same since signing his new contract. Makes you say hmmmm.

Total lack of Defense.

I hate to say this but Ralph just a figurehead owner. He wont change.

We need some mojo. I didnt like when Chan said we are playing like pretenders, dont think that helped one bit.

Buddy has a long way to go.

Pass rushers. We need a DE AND LB's that can get to the QB.

WR... Easley cant stay healthy ,same thing with Parrish.

CB... McGee cant stay healthy, undersized, time to move on.

New DC... Edwards sucks, we have more talent for 4-3 and its time we dump this hybred 3-4 ish.

I think we need a new owner. don't think there is anything more to say.

Right now it looks like they quit. Every single quitter is responsible.

The blocked punt was an example of a player just not playing. Miami did nothing special, we just quit.

Some injuries, like penalties, are related to not having good enough players, players that aren't fundamentally sound, aren't executing, don't have a clue what they are doing, or are trying to do too much. For example, if a play is well blocked, the runner will run past his lineman, deliver a blow to a defensive player, and drive him backwards. On a bad team that can't execute, a defender may come crashing down the line of scrimmage, smear the running back, and drive him awkwardly into the back of a lineman's legs, blowing the lineman's knees out. Another example, would be an upback in punt formation that forgets that his primary job is to block the punt rush, and instead sprints away from the rusher giving the punt rusher a free release and a direct beeline to annihilate the punter and/or block the kick. If blocked properly, the punter doesn't have to worry about having his plant leg ripped out from under him like a dry stick.

Spiller---below not even mediocre and at 7 million a season

Troup---big nothing burger, this pick with local boy Gronk rated no. 1 TE on the board.

Carrington--mediocre, backup

Easley--zip

Batten--lucky to be on a roster

Ed Wang--cut

Moats---mediocre

Calloway--cut.

Levi Brown--nothing burger

spiller- playing behind a probowler. so your point is that we should stop giving the ball to our super productive back and start giving it to the back up. silly. until he is in a position to be a feature back the jury is still out. that is the reality of the situation

troup/carrington- have been the only depth we have had at any position no matter how poor it has been

easley- serious health problems, no idea what his ceiling or basement is to be fair

wang- 5th rounder and we have some ok tackles suprisingly, they all just happen to be hurt

moats- actually a decent pick in the 6th round. you expect picks this low to be expendable and he has played pretty well

calloway/brown- really we are going to wine about another super low round pick. wahhhh my 7th round pick isnt super great. lets get real.

looking at good drafting teams, they hit on the draft at about 50% of their picks. the last 2 seem to have provided some depth wich is good. there was an artice a week or 2 ago and we have something like 11 guys left on the team from the 2005-2009 with 1 from 07 and none from 08. there is no team in the league with a poorer roster than that.

take the gun out of your mouth, there is some improvement, but intill there is a roster we cant make realistic judgments. or if you would like you can blow your head off because of 2 failed 7th rounders, a bad 5th rounder, and the guy we have backing up our pro bowler.
