To add to the conspiracy theories: everyone knows that Goodell really works for Kraft and it was Kraft that ordered him to force Vick to play in the NFC given his total recall of future events. Consider that the Bills were being run by the "inner circle" and coached by Dick Jauron, who routinely appointed whatever wing nut happened to be his QB coach to be his offensive coordinator. Vick wasn't ready from day one and the coaching he would have received in Buffalo would've been a joke. If you are Tony Dungy (or some other adviser appointed by the NFL), would you advise Vick to go to a situation with a stable coaching staff with a track record of developing QBs and where he could sit and get back into the flow of being an NFL player, or would you advise him to take a couple more bucks and get thrown to the wolves? Maybe you'd just tell him, "I'm there for you," and then ignore your cell phone when he called. This here. Dickless Jauron probably wouldn't have been able to control him and the Bills may have had a better record. So Vick might have saved the jobs of Guy Modrak and Jauron, while we wouldn't have redneck hour with Buddy and Chan, which is more entertaining btw. Vick reinvented his game in Philly to become a much better QB than he was in Atlanta and I think it's unlikely he would have done that with a horrible coaching staff and a weak team in Buffalo. Yes, all that, but... "and granted league approval" ...is a little bit concerning. Vague - it could just be an indication of Vick's special situation as a FA - but concerning, nonetheless. The crux of it obviously is that dogfighting is a very racially divisive issue itself. The man committed a crime, and served his punishment? What else do people want from him before they stop carrying the banner of heinous acts? Every team is going to have a player with some sort of criminal background. Chances are that Vick told Goodell about Cincy and Buffalo, to which Goodell told him the Pros & Cons of entering into that situation. This GQ article takes a 1/2 quote from Vick - there is more behind this quote and Vick probably misspoke or was taken out of context. In essence Vick asked Goodell for impartial advice and his answers helped "lead" Vick in making the decision to sign with Phily. Goodell held the power of re-instatement over Vick. If Vick didn't do as Goodell suggested, then maybe Goodell decides that he is not ready for his "conditional" to turn into FULL reinstatement. He had to get their "approval" anywhere he was. The fan base was strongly against him at that point. And they probably didn't want him to play right away. He didn't say anything about they made him go somewhere. He would have caused an awful lot of controversy in Buffalo, that's for sure, when we sucked, with half the people clamoring for him and half the people screaming he's a worthless inhuman dog-killer.
