Mocks From Differing Philosophies

Recommended Posts

I have been working overtime with DraftTek's Simulator using different philosophies I've read about on TSW.

1. Newton Mock With 4 Ensuing Defensive Selections

1 3 Buffalo Cameron Newton QB Auburn

2 34 Buffalo Justin Houston OLB34 Georgia

3 68 Buffalo K.J. Wright ILB Mississippi State

4 99 Buffalo Lawrence Guy DE34 Arizona State

4 121 Buffalo Marc. Gilchrist CB Clemson

5 130 Buffalo Orla. Franklin RT Miami

6 164 Buffalo Charlie Gantt TE Michigan State

7 195 Buffalo Lee Smith TE Marshall

COMMENT: If you are going to take Newton, make 4 defensive picks then an O-Line pick. Taking 2 TE's late.

2. Miller Mock With Huge Run Defense Emphasis, Take a Smart, Midround QB

1 3 Buffalo Von Miller OLB34 Texas A&M

2 34 Buffalo Stephen Paea DT43 Oregon State

3 68 Buffalo K.J. Wright ILB Mississippi State

4 99 Buffalo Pernell McPhee DE34 Mississippi State

4 121 Buffalo Kenrick Ellis DT34 Hampton

5 130 Buffalo Greg McElroy QB Alabama

6 164 Buffalo Charlie Gantt TE Michigan State

7 195 Buffalo Derek Hall RT Stanford

COMMENT: This would IMHO be an 'A' draft for us. You take two kinds of DT's and a DE who wreaked havoc at the Senior Bowl. McElroy isn't flashy but he's smart and with winning teams since HS.

3. Fairley Mock, Take Early QB

1 3 Buffalo Nick Fairley DT34 Auburn

2 34 Buffalo Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas

3 68 Buffalo K.J. Wright ILB Mississippi State

4 99 Buffalo Lawrence Guy DE34 Arizona State

4 121 Buffalo Steven Friday OLB34 Virginia Tech

5 130 Buffalo Chykie Brown CB Texas

6 164 Buffalo Jo. Barksdale RT LSU

7 195 Buffalo R. Bartholomew OC Syracuse

COMMENT: This is a risk-reward draft; I don't see Nix taking risks like this. Like local boy Bartholomew.

4. TradeDown Mock With ARIZ (for RD2 and RD4), Ariz Wants QB Choice

1 5 Buffalo Von Miller OLB34 Texas A&M

2 34 Buffalo Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas

2 38 Buffalo Mason Foster ILB Washington

3 68 Buffalo Jarvis Jenkins DE34 Clemson

4 99 Buffalo Chimdi Chekwa CB Ohio State

4 102 Buffalo Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin

4 121 Buffalo Pierre Allen DE34 Nebraska

5 130 Buffalo Orl. Franklin RT Miami

6 164 Buffalo Ryan Winterswyk OLB34 Boise State

7 195 Buffalo Martin Parker DT43 Richmond

COMMENT: Lot of players who I think will be stars.

I don't understand why so many people get enraged with the thought that taking a qb in the first round doesn't necessarily mean that some of our other defensive needs can't also be addressed with the remaining picks. Your first draft scenario demonstrates outherwise.

If there is enough time left with a CBA agreement a functional TE and RT can be added to help this team move up to being respectable. The Bills are in a position to draft Gabbert/Newton. Let's do it and continue to move forward.

I get the sense that Gailey prefers a mobile qb. If that is the case then if the Bills look for a qb in the second round Locker, Ponder and Kaepernick are more likely to be considered. Mallett is a special passer. He can makes throws that no other prospect can make, and that would include Luck if he came out. The problem is that you can't throw the ball very well when you are laid out on the ground writhing in pain.

For the life of me, I just don't get this whole Bills drafting Von Miller thing over a true NFL stud sack crazy player in waiting Robert Quinn...Lawrence Taylor, Julius Peppers, Robert Quinn

Not only does he sack the quarterback, he removes the ball from the QB's possession a lot!

Please Astrobot, tell me why Von Miller is going to be better than Robert Quinn. IMO Quinn's game transitions, Miller's doesn't.

Quinn Quote...

“I don't really compare,” he said. “But people always tell me I'm ready to be the next Julius Peppers or DeMarcus Ware(notes). I always tell them, 'Why do I need to be the second of somebody else? Why can't I be the first Robert Quinn?' But I guess being compared to them two ain't so bad.”

Sounds like a guy who's confident he's going to be something special. It doesn't sound boastful, it sounds inevitable.

No one knows anything til they play in the nfl. It's all speculation at this point. Miller haters say he's too small. Quinn haters say he's only produces against bad teams. Will millers size and speed hold up? Will Quinn be able to be effective against NFL o lineman? Hopefully we make the right choice, but right now, no one knows jack.

I am not a Von Miller guy.

I love the Von Miller draft, I think it's mostly for the trade down part.

Mason Foster is a Buddy Nix kinda guy, 4 year player that was a team captain and Lance Kendrick's is a Possible fix for the TE.

Von Miller and Poz on the inside with A healthy Merriman and Moats on the outside is a nice LB grouping.

Then Mason Foster Coming in for the inevitable broken arm and Andre Davis.

Or if somehow Miller can keep on the weight. A healthy merman Poz mason foster Miller.

Then Moats and Andre Davis for rotation and reserve.

Or if Merriman is most likely not healthy and if somehow Miller can play outside.

Miller Foster Poz Moats

And Davis For reserve and rotation.

Either way a 3-4 team with LB depth is what we need to be.

Quinn will be amazing, if he plays Duke every Sunday. Ba-dum-tish

Oh please...

Quinn vs Castonzo

Crushes QB and forces a fumble on the second play, breaks up and almost intercepts a screen pass, on the last play he gets double teamed and still gets to the QB who throws a desperate pass which gets interception and returned to the 1 yard line.

Three out of four simulations have us taking K.J. Wright in the 3rd.

Two out of four have us nabbing Mallet in the 2nd.

My grandmother's maiden name was McElroy. Wonder if I'm related to the "smart, midround QB" in simulation #2. ????

You aren't.

I like this draft the best. Not a huge fan of Von Miller (I'd rather have Quinn), but I like the emphasis on run defense. Given that we are likely to use multiple defensive fronts, I like the diversity of D-Line talent in this draft. I think Kendrick Ellis is going to be a beastly NT. McElroy does not upgrade our QB position, but he provides a decent backup QB who is smart enough to quickly learn the playbook and could be a decent "game managing" QB if Fitz got hurt.
