BROHM

Recommended Posts

I think the signing of Brian Brohm and perry saying that he wouldnt play this year because they wanted him to have a better grasp of the offense says a couple things.

1. We are not gonna spend a high draft pick on a quarterback, and if we do it would probably be a 4th round pick on a guy who was a senior coming into the draft with a lot of experience in the college game which means we can actually focus on our needs like OL, DT,LB,WR

2. The FO believes Brohm can actually start in the nfl. Hopefully they are right for once

I would say we are very unlikely to take a QB any sooner than 3rd round...if that, unless someone slips big time. Brohm is a #1 pick talent that we got for pennies...he hasnt had a chance to play yet. Why on earth would we not give a number pick type talent a chance to play (who is making chump change compared to what a early First round QB would be making) before we waste a high pick on another?

In all honesty, if Brohm was in this years draft he would most likely be the #1 QB taken...and yet we got him for next to nothing.

If the FO is smart, they go OL in round 1, and then go defensive front 7 round 2 (or maybe even OL again if the right player is there)...no need to waste a first and second on a QB now that we have a guy of Brohms potential.

Doesnt mean Brohm will be great, but he has as much if not more upside than just about any QB in this years draft. Not to mention he has a cannon for an arm and was very accurate in college.

You guys are talking out yer @$$es. And I really doubt that the Bills are counting on Brohm to be the answer at QB. That would be wishful thinking. He has **** the bed terribly so far. You might as well make the same claims because they picked up Ramsey, who at least has started a few games.

They will take a QB high in the draft.

NONE OF THEM WILL STILL BE EMPLOYED BY THE BILLS IN A MONTH.

So our quarterback of the future is a guy they plucked off another team's practice squad who wasn't even good enough to be the team's backup after two years in the league?

Yeah, sounds about right.

Um, this is his second year, so it isnt "after 2 years in the league" it was after ONE. Secondly, you put the guys on your 53 man roster you feel are ready to step in now. The Packers felt Flynn came along quicker than Brohm but didnt want to lose Brohm so they put him on the PS until he was ready. They even tried to KEEP him when we signed him, but Brohm said no since he knows he will never get a chance to play behind Rodgers.

Why is this so complicated from some people to grasp?

When you consider how slim the pickings are for landing a top QB, trying Brohm out for next season isn't such a bad idea. If you draft someone it could easily take over a year if you're lucky for him to develop. Rookies sometimes can look good quickly when surrounded by talent., however anyone going to the Bills' next season would take awhile anyway, so play Brohm. If you get lucky and there's a QB available whom you really felt should have been taken earlier, grab him, otherwise fill your other needs.

Exactly. Put Jim Kelly behind this horrific offensive line and you will get similar results.

Big deal, semantics. I should have said, "after two training camps in the league."

Sure, they tried to keep him, but it's not like it's because they felt he was their QB of the future who would take over for Rogers someday. They probably thought he'd make a pretty good backup...someday.

All I'm saying is that I really hope the FO is not counting on Brohm to be the QB of the future (at the expense of, say, somebody more promising). He might be, but right now hes just a high round draft pick who couldn't show enough grasp of the pro game to make a team's final roster, much less a backup spot.

Do I think the Brohm signing was a good one? Sure, he might develop into a real starting QB someday. I'm glad they signed him. I just hope the FO isn't saying, "Great, we can check QB off the list now."

Sorry if I don't grasp things quite as well as you do.

It's so complicated for people to grasp because teams dont put players that are "#1 pick talent" on their practice squad- ever.

UGGGHHH....Last time we did that it was Trent Edwards!!!!! :wallbash:

I am so sick of us trying to get a bargain and half assing things. If you want a franchise QB you draft him in the first round and you draft him as EARLY as possible. There are absolutely no guarantees of success by drafting early but there is a GREATLY increasing chance of failure drafting later. Everyone keeps point out a Tom Brady or some other lucky non first round pick that actually turned into something as justification of the draft a QB late strategy. A Tom Brady in the 6th round comes around once every....well.....forever...there has been only one in the entire history of the NFL and AFL.

Actually, they sometimes do just that - when they decide to keep 6 running backs (3 RBs & 3 FBs) and only 2 QBs on their active roster/depth chart, as Green Bay does. (The Bills, by contrast, carry only 2 RBs & 1 FB.)

Interesting comment you made on the practice-squad talent thing too - you may have forgotten that the Bills initially cut Jason Peters, then - after he cleared waivers - re-signed him...to their practice squad!!! ;)

Of course Peters was an undrafted free agent TE at the time, with no tape on him as a tackle yet. He was basically just an athlete.

Brohm was a high profile college QB and a high draft pick, and a big disappointment, that's why he ended up on a ps.

The Rams had a backup that Vermeil would not use during the regular season. Even as Tony Banks continued to show he did not belong in the NFL this back-up was eating up the Ram defense in practice. Instead of letting the guy have a chance to show what he could do, he sat all year and the Rams and signed an emerging QB, Trent Green from Washington in the offseason. In the middle of preseason, Green blows out a knee and the Rams think their season just blew up in their face. This time they had no choice but to play Kurt Warner and the rest is history. Moral: Play Brohm and see if you have something.

Thank you, Conch. Why is this so obvious to some, while others can't seem to comprehend the notion?

The Bills made a grab at Brohm for a reason - my gut-feel is that they think the former Heisman candidate may be a diamond-in-the-rough. They need to see what they've got in him before the draft, in the unlikely possibility that Clausen or Bradford are 'on the board' when the Bills pick.

Actually I remember it quite well- the difference you are failing to catch is that there are PROSPECTS and there are "#1 pick talent"... prospects who could become very good- often go to the practice squad and often make names for themselves in the NFL... there is no debate in my mind that Brohm is prospect and should be given a shot to develop.

First round talents however are generally players who teams believe will have an instant impact or, at the very least, do not require the investment that prospects do. Granted it doesnt always work out, but rarely (if ever) do first round talents find their way to a practice squad.
