We saw some celebrities there too, which was cool. Terrell Davis was at the pool with us and some basketball player played roulette with us. Don't forget the sunscreen!!! Seeing as how it has been nearly 3 years since the last post in this thread..looking for any insight into this place. We are staying at the Reef, so have a little kitchenette for breakfast and lunch..seems best to have the cab stop on way there for beers, coldcuts, english muffins etc. More looking to see if you all did any of the activities there and what was worth and not worth it. My kids are signed up for the shallow water Dolphin thing as that was thrown in as part of the package. They also have where you can snorkel in the aquarium Chef mentioned..but damn that is $99 for an hour...wowzer. But may be so cool worth it the one time, especially for the kids. Why would you pay that when you can walk "through and under" the aquarium for free........with a drink in your hand. Try that with a snorkel tube in your mouth. If youy like to sail charter a boat for the day and have them take you to the best snorkel spots. We do that pretty much every time we go to the Caribbean. We ended up staying at the Comfort Suites which is right next to Atlantis and has full privileges. We brought a rolling cooler, and made lunches to bring over to the water park/beaches. The kids meals are pretty reasonable. There's a man-made cove you can snorkel in which has ocean access and we saw turtles and some other cool fishies in there. We did a different dolphin encounter which was pretty cool. There's a ferry which goes from near Atlantis (short walk to pier under the bridge) to the cruise ship terminal in Nassau if you wanna do some shopping. Note that the lazy river at Atlantis is not all that lazy, and the sides are pretty rough so be careful. Daughter enjoyed getting her hair braided on the beach. Warning - we had our credit card skimmed somewhere (we think at the Hard Rock). Use cash as much as possible. I was very surprised at how much we enjoyed our 4 nights here..and would highly recommend. We stayed at the Reef..and i would think staying at the Reef or the Cove would be essential. Other hotels seemed a little too Vegasey...Reef was much more laid back and quiet.Private pool and beach help in that regard as well. All that crap you read on Trip Advisor bout how a long a walk it is to everything is just that..crap. No more than 4 minute walk to waterpark, 8 minutes to casino, 10 minutes to other end of the property..sheesh people are lazy! Also, not near as expensive as everyone makes out as long as you do some pre planning. Bring your own stuff for snacks, drinks, breakfast etc. The Reef rooms/suites all have kitchenettes, so we did two things. 1) brought a suitcase with nothing but things like Triscuits, Pringles, Clif Bars, candy , english muffins, tonic etc. Also brought Gatorade powder. 2) Had cab stop on way in at grocery store right over bridge from Paradise Island. Got cheese, eggs, butter..all that perishable stuff as well as a case of Corona cans.Case of beer was $50...but $7 plus tip there...so quite a saving.Great saving as well making own breakfast, having Happy Hour on balcony etc. We went to water park early, left by 11 to go on beach,beach, snorkel etc. Cruise folks start to pile in by 11.00, gone by 4.30 , We would then head back about 5. Never waited ore than 10 minutes for a slide, majority just a few minutes..and everyone said it was a really busy week there..so if timed well lines are really no problems on the rides. Dinners are expensive as hell..but good. We ate Mesa Grill twice as well Nobu..each was about $270 for family of four..but $70 bottle of wine each time. Same wine here $40 ..but guess it did not bother me as a i knew it was coming. Had one dinner at the Virgil's BBQ there..$100 for us, but enough leftovers to make two pulled pig sammies for lunch the next day. Rented a boat for a day..Bahama Boat Tours..great time snorkeling, fishing, tubing etc. As mentioned, wife and I were skeptical going in...much better than I expected!. People often couch their vacation expenses in terms of what it would cost back home, and that can be like sand in your shoes. It's good to kick back a bit and let go, and it sounds like you did. One can enjoy their vacation experience better when they realize: "I'm on vacation. We're having fun. What the hey!" Good tips there for managing the day-to-day costs! We had $425 for 5 hours. Captain picked us up right at the marina at Atlantis..it was nice to do what we wanted to do when we wanted, instead of going on a headboat with 50 of your closet friends. We looked at it as going on one of those for 3 hours was $75/person...so this an extra $ 200 when tip is included..worth every penny. Snorkel, tube, kneeboard, we did it all.We just fished the reef with light tackle, but my son had a nurse shark on the line , at least 5 foot and 60lbs, and fought him for twenty five minutes on 20 lb test. The shark finally got off 6 feet from the boat...but my son had a blast! The captain was great...would highly recommend if you are ever in Nassau.
