  1. A little late on this but I thought the live coverage was awesome. You get to really see what happens, as opposed to only watching a few critical hands. I understand it may not always be thrilling television but it gave you a much better feeling for the game. Much more analysis than humor. I hope it is just the start. As for the original question, I believe the start playing hand for a hand a few players from the money. I don't know what the exact number this year was but I'm guessing somewhere between 5 and 10 players from the money. Bubble play is very interesting to watch, shorts stacks trying to survive and big stacks trying to punish. And for the Norman Chad fans, the traditional coverage will be back as well. One question I did have, was what else does ESPN have to show at this time? I mean it is ESPN2 in the middle of the summer, no college sports, nothing much else going on. I thought it was good for all.
  2. Supposedly they have a buyer coming in that will help bail out US players but I wouldn't hold your breath....
  3. so is this just part of the documentary? and why is it "sticking" it to stanford. did i miss something?
  4. True but he's rumored to have $5 million bet that he will win a bracelet, plus he's done very well in the main event and this means he's skipping 56 other events as well. I just wish stupid congress would figure this out (please don't move to PPP)
  5. Basically the horse racing industry is bigger and more powerful than poker industry...
  6. I think his ulterior motive is not being harassed by everyone at the WSOP. There was already an incident with John Juanda.
  7. I know there are some poker players on here, thought you guys may find this interesting. I don't know if most have been following the events since online poker's "Black Friday" but there has been plenty of drama, to me this is the most significant news in a while: Phil Ivey WSOP Boycott
  8. For those with DTV (and outside of Buffalo) do you know which channel the game will be on? I know sometimes for me the Center Ice feed is blacked out and I have to watch on the MSG-NYa feed. Any idea about tonight? I won't be home tonight for the start of the game and want to make sure I set the DVR correctly.
  9. Care to share the premise for the uninformed or are you just going to tell me to f off and go to google? If that's the case I'll pass. I'm too lazy.
  10. Would prefer the color scheme of the 90s, white helmets are fine but hate the blue is terrible right now..
  11. Basically that's the way it seems, I think the quote I read from the prosecutor was like "She was bringing him laundry and he brought her two hunting knives." Doesn't really sound like self defense to me.
  12. Did you guys read the story? It isn't like everyone is paying $900 to park. There are some people with some extra coin who want a good parking spot and there happens to be a guy who has some to sell. We live in a free market economy, props to this guy for making what he can.
  13. Also found the Skills Competition a little boring, just seemed like after the opening, production value was low and there wasn't much in the way of entertainment to keep people interested. Met Barnaby as well, he may have been hand in hand with one of the blondes from ESPN (not Erin Andrews), which was news to me.
  14. Heading to the skills competition Saturday night sold our tickets to the All Star game to pay for the skills competition, not a bad deal.
  15. actually good story from the Mirage, I asked them to put a Sabres game on once and the woman asked me if I was from Buffalo, and I said yes, she said she was too and proceeded to give me a fistful of drink tickets every bet I made the rest of the weekend.
  16. they are always generous when you're betting the ponies, we usually bet the ponies even during a game we're interested in because you can get drink tickets and who knows you might even win (I have a buddy that will just put $2 on a favorite that pays 1-1 to get drink tickets works out well for him but not what I could call fun)
  17. My favorite for just casually hanging out for a big game is Mandalay, it's huge and awesome and usually a great atmosphere but not sure it is the set up you are looking for. I'm a pretty big fan of Mirage as well. They are the best with drink tickets and it seems to be a good home base. I think you're talking about Lagasse Stadium. I've never been but heard it is amazing.
  18. Not a huge PH fan, but most of that opinion was formed when it was the Aladdin, only been once since it was Planet Hollywood. Just read this book about Vegas: Winner Take All it made me dislike Harrah's (now Caesars I guess) properties. I already was not a fan of most of the places (mainly due to 6/5 blackjack) but this confirmed it. I'm going to try to stay at MGM-Mirage properties in the future, though I may go back to the Flamingo cause it's cheap and it was the first place I stayed in Vegas (prior to it being a CET property). Would check out Cosmo or Aria maybe in my next good around. If I was loaded I would stay at the Wynn.
  19. Mirage is nice and has a great pool but is really crowded. People wake up early and stake their claims to chairs. The new Cosmopolitan seems to be getting good reviews. I'm not sure what your scene is, Vegas has something for everyone.
  20. So my girlfriend and I are heading to DC on our way back from Buffalo for Christmas. We're only going to be there from Wednesday (12/29) morning to Thursday (12/30) night. We're trying to figure out the best place to stay and be close to everything, right now I'm looking on Hotwire at 4 star hotel for $89 in the Washington House - Capitol Hill area. It's basically an area with Constitution Ave as it's southern border, 15th street as its western border, K St/Massachusetts Ave as it's northern border and Capitol St as its eastern border. It seems like a good place but still wanted to check before I pulled the trigger. Neither of us has been before, so we're kind of clueless. I'm assuming that whole area is safe since we're close to everything. We're runners so hope to explore a lot that way. Does anybody have any thoughts? Any restaurant suggestions in the area? We love good food. We have all the basics on our to do list, Smithsonian, monuments, etc. but any off beat suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
  21. most casinos accept other casinos chips, so you wouldn't just have to go to Bellagio. They're not numbered or anything but you probably have to cash them in slowly to avoid drawing too much attention.
  22. Been there Sunday in Raleigh, it's been like 5 years since I've been so I'm excited, regardless of what has been said...
  23. Uhhhhhhhhh how about the second rated QB in the NFL?
  24. Only been to Breckenridge but it was amazing, easily 1000 times better than anything I've been to in the Northeast (Killington, Sunday River, etc.) A lot of the terrain was fairly easy but then you could find stuff like this: which I did once but will be hard pressed to ever try again. On top of that the apres ski scene was pretty good too. We got a condo walkable to one of the lifts and it wasn't too pricey. As I said, I've never been anywhere else but would guaranty a good time at Breck.
