Stevie Johnson

Considering that any team could have signed TO as a free agent, and no one chose to outbid us, it's very doubtful that anyone would give us anything in the draft for him. He certainly hasn't done anything to increase his own trade value while here!

That said, I agree with your overall thought process. We should start getting our younger guys out on the field. This is a rebuilding year. As next year will also be.

The main reason nobody signed TO is not production related, it was attitude and conduct concerns. He's shown himself to be under control on a team that is going nowhere. I think we could have picked up at least a mid/later round draft pick for him if we shopped him. We can't make a playoff run and he's hurting the playing time and experience for Hardy and Johnson, guys that desperately need reps in order to contribute for us down the road.

Reminds me of the time when Mularkey was starting Holcomb over JP in a lost season when JP needed the reps and the team needed to evaluate him for the future. Lost-season strategies can really help a team's future if they do it right.

Poor Jauron. The game has just passed him by.

Didn't want to start a new thread on Steve Johnson again, so I figured I would rehash this old one, I would like to see him on the field, but I am thinking the reason he isn't could be related to the fact that he doesn't practice well? Maybe he isn't giving all out effort, and that could be the reason come Sunday he is in street clothes watching the game? Have any of our beat writers seen or heard anything as to why he hasn't really gotten a shot and is inactive most of the year? I figure if he were really impressing in practice that they would find a way to get him on the field, as the rest of the WR's haven't been exactly lighting things up week after week.

just my $.02

Everyone clamoring for S. Johnson, Hardy, Brohm, Maybin, etc to be on the field more needs to realize they are developmental projects, and right now we have a coach who thinks he is coaching for a job. He is going to put the players on the field who can help him win right now, not the ones who might make the team better next year.

I have no doubt that Perry Fewell wants to win right now to try and make the best impression around the league for a possible HC position. If he thought that Steve Johnson could help the Bills win, he would be on the field. He is not trying to evaluate players or develop them for the next coach, nor should he be. Same with Hardy and Maybin. These guys are obviously not the best options right now. Frankly, I haven't seen anything in their brief appearance that would lead me to think they could do anything.

I just don't get why this guy hasn't been on the field. With the way are offense is playing and all the balls T.O. drops why not pout him out there more. For some reason ever since we drafted this guy i have had the feeling he could be a star and all he needs is that one shot. I don't know do you guys agree or????????????

thats because we use the 2 wide out formation for 99.7% of the time.

we like to be predictable.

if no one clamored for anything then there wouldnt be anything to talk about.

oh by the way. i agree with you.

but what the hell, can we throw s johnson and maybin a little more?

Seadog, I love the picture on your profile, man!

I know, isn't that so clever? Let's have you and SeaDog explain to us what a Socialist is without using wikipedia and how exactly Obama fits the description of a socialist. I love how George Bush embarasses the US around the world for eight years and Republicans are like, "gotta stand behind the president no matter what" and then the moment Obama gets elected they are ten times more hateful toward him than Democrats ever were toward Bush and the dude hasn't even done anything yet. SeaDog. Get outta here with that s**t. Why don't you go back to Wyoming County, go hunting with your toothless Uncle, go and yell at a Town Hall meeting that you want your country back and then go to an Evangelical mega-church on Sunday.

How progressive of you. I see you love generalizations and practice prejudices and personal attacks. And what the hell does your post have to do with Steve Johnson?

I'm guilty of starting at least two "Steve Johnson should play" threads this year.

It's mind-boggling why he and Hardy aren't given reps in what is amounting to a wasted season.

Of course, a lot of us here were clammoring for guys like Greer and Jackson to get playing time, and when they finally saw the field, it made our staff look stupid for relegating them to the bench for so long.

I just don't understand why Steve Johnson is not in the Hall of Fame yet.

+1

T.O. was the man two weeks ago. Has a tough game against one of the top 3 corners in the game, and we're back to Steve Johnson. Why can't anybody see him for the once in a generation talent he really is??

Don't get me wrong, he looked like there might be something there last year, but him over T.O.??? This argument is about as sensible as bringing up Marv every 10-15 minutes to kick him.

I know that the true evaluators of talent are stuck in 9-5's and post on message boards, but you think at least 1 person that has a job on an NFL team would have seen if St. Johnson was the second coming.

Everybody has all the answers on everything that this organization has done wrong, we've all seen T.O. make big plays...the kind he has been making for 14 years, and yet, Steve effing Johnson is the problem????

If all Steve Johnson d-riders are right, we will finally have a prolific offense once we get rid of Terrell Owens, and have a rookie QB, or washed up vet, and Josh Reed (you HAVE TO get rid of TO!!) and Steve Johnson lined up at WR next year. I wonder what the problem would be then...there has to be a problem...

I would love to see us trying to land a FA QB... "Don't you worry about TO, we would never bring him back, you are going to have the biggest secret in the league....Steve Johnson!!! Not to mention James Hardy and Josh Reed!! What? Lee? Oh you don't have to get the ball to him...and, pardon me asking, but with the previously mentioned stable of talent, why would you? Either way, please rest assured, the future first ballot HOF'er WILL NOT BE ON THE ROSTER. So let's just wrap this up and win that Super Bowl!!! What do you say, Mr. Pennington?"

don't waste your energy on them. they're not completely sane.

The fact that he has not been active for a game since Jauron left should be all we need to know how the coaching staff feels about Steve Johnson. And that is quite unfortunate.

Remember that, minus the head coach, this is the same coaching staff that gave Anthony Thomas practically all the carries while Lynch was hurt, while keeping Fred Jackson on the bench. Only after Thomas got hurt did Jackson receive an opportunity to prove himself. This is not to suggest that Steve Johnson is destined to become the next Fred Jackson. But it does demonstrate that we can't rely on this coaching staff to identify good players from among our backups. Also, this coaching staff has Evans and TO as their starters, and Reed (who played well last year) in the slot. They have little incentive to try something new.

At this point, all we know about Johnson is that he's looked good in very limited playing time. That may amount to nothing in the long run, or it could turn into something.

Poor man's Hines Ward??? WTF. I am assuming by "Poor man's" you mean he doesn't score any TD's nor catch more than a handful of balls all season. Now he does yell alot I'll give you that. I have yet to see his mythical run after catch skills. In fact if you can show me one play in the last 5 years where he broke a tackle I'll buy you a beer. And for blocking downfield, I can't recall a single run this year where his block did anything. In fact for all the crap this board gives Lee Evans it was his block downfield that sprung beastmode for the TD in Toronto.

This is a reaonable post. "should play" and "given reps". Exactly. The season is wasted and both should be given reps. IMO it should be at the expense of TO's(Hardy - about 5-7 plays a game) and Reed's(Johnson 10-15 plays) reps. I would bench/inactivate Reed now in favor of either of these guys getting on the field. In keeping with the coaching staff not being able to evaluate talent, I would not give up on Parrish until he has a real OC and new HC evaluate him.

So true. Head Coaches are not always motivated to do what is best for the team's future. Especially if they are on the bubble (trying to save or acquire a head coaching job).

Regarding Steve, I don't remember which Pro Football Weekly reporter wrote it, but when writing about the Bills last year, one of them said the sleeper on this team who could be great is Johnson. For what it's worth.
