We know that doing nothing wouldn't change the outcome. If he couldn't legally buy an assault weapon and large clips it would at least make it harder to carry out the same assault, and perhaps less people would have been shot. We'll never be able to stop every nut, just like we'll never be able to stop every terrorist. But to do nothing and just say, 'Oh well, that's the price we pay for having a 2nd amendment' is ludicrous. The argument that then only criminals will have assault weapons is bogus. How many people walk around with an assault weapon to protect themselves from a crime? But the NRA will say the gov't wants to take away all guns, and the nuts who think the government is going to put them in FEMA camps will scream, and keep scaring enough politicians into resisting bans on assault weapons. You can keep your pistols and rifles, but there's no justification for private ownership of off-the-shelf assault weapons. The harm outweighs any 'recreational sport' benefit.

OK, so let's see how well you did in the private sector based on your work. Did you profit off of the bones of closed American companies? If he's not ashamed of what he earned and how he did it, then there's no reason to keep hiding the truth. Let Republicans defend his method of obtaining wealth to the voters, and then the voters will decide who has their best interest at heart. He could have put this to rest back when Newt called for it during the primaries. To keep resisting just fuels the fire that he wants to hide the facts from the voters. Let's go conservatives, open up the books and defend your vision of capitalism to the voters. Well then he was just mistaken, because the policies that were implemented are not failing. The banks were bailed out which prevented an economic collapse, the Affordable Care Act has opened up healthcare options that previously weren't available to millions, and GM and Chrysler were saved from bankruptcy and thousands of jobs were saved. We could be in even better shape if Congress would stop stonewalling on other Obama proposals to boost domestic demand and prevent further public sector layoffs at the state and local level that are a drag on the net unemployment numbers, where private sector jobs have been increasing. Not to mention his foreign policy successes. And his appearance was more about him reinforcing his conservative credentials with the right wingers than trying to win over NAACP members.

My girl Hillary has been an outstanding SoS, and even some conservatives agree with that. I don't blame her for looking a bit tired sometimes, hard work will do that to a person. And we hold women to a higher standard than men. Alot of it is what hair style she wears; some are better than others. I met her in the 90's and she looks better in person than in pictures. And she would be a tremendous choice for president in 2016 (and would have been in 2008). She has only improved and expanded on her resume. Reagan won when he was 69. And her recent approval rating was at 66%, which must include some Republicans. She can take her well deserved break after she steps down from SoS, recharge and then make a run in 2016 after Obama's 2nd term.

Most parents dictate what religion their kids grow up believing in, and organized religion throughout history has been responsible for much of the political debate. So I wouldn't worry about what your kid hears from you about politics. What you can do is explain what both side's views are of a given debate, and then explain why you favor one over the other, and ask them what they think about it.

Haven't you heard, the Romney campaign has been telling Republican governors to stop talking about how the economy is improving, because it conflicts with the Romney talking points that the economy is getting worse.

I always thought there was little any president could do to affect gas prices. But back in March, Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming declared that Obama was "fully responsible for what the American public is paying for gasoline.” So I stand corrected. And given this new fact, it would only be fair that those that criticized the President when prices rose, now thank him for the lower prices. Newsflash...people throw elbows in politics. Republicans always relied on the foreign policy / military issue as an asset. Now that Obama has taken that away from them they're calling foul. If the mission had failed, Republicans would have been screaming for investigations and saying how Obama was another Jimmy Carter. He made the tough call, it succeeded, and now people need to be reminded of where we were in Iraq and with al Quida before Obama took office, and where we are now. Reagan had an ad about "the bear in the woods", and who do you trust to protect us. One of GW Bush's first ads against Kerry featured images of the Twin Towers and people being taken out of it.
