Schobel is now 70/30 on playing this year
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, you agree with his actions then? I guess it's allright for any player to skip all OTA's, mini-camps & now some of training camp, just because they don't feel like showing up? -
http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/07/28/s...cipating-fines/ The more this saga drags on, the more Schobel is turning into a diva.

Benefit of the doubt for Nix / Gailey
Jerry Jabber replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get why everyone is gaga over Cowher. Cowher was a good coach, but he was also with the Steelers for at least 15 years and won only 1 superbowl. Look at Marty Schottenheimer, he if had 15 years on one team, I'm sure he would have won a superbowl as well. I think Cowher would have been a better coach for the Bills, but I would label him as the savior like most Bills fans would have. -
Last year, when the Bills drafted Byrd in the 2nd round, I was saying "WTF!!! another player for the secondary!!" But after seeing Byrd's play on the field last year, I understood why the Bills drafted him. I'm hoping we'll be saying the same positive stuff about Spiller by the end of the season. I did like the interior of our line and hope Wood comes back strong from his injury. It sounds like the players on the O-line have benefitted so far from the new strength & conditioning program, so we'll see how that translates when the pads go on.

Exciting things ahead for this team, this city.

It's okay. With Gibran Edwards being mentored by Dick Gailey, the Bills should be fine. Seriously, love the optimism and I agree. I think the Bills will be under the radar and could be fighting for a wild card spot towards the end of the year. If the Bills can go 7-9 3x, and 6-10 with an inept coaching staff, then I can't see how the Bills can do any worse. We've already seen improvements in strength & conditioning, so that will decrease injuries and hopefully help with the blown 4th quarter leads/ties. -
Jim McMahon used to call Mike Tomczak "Pick 3" in Chicago, because he would throw 3 INT's on average in a game. Tomczak, Fielder, Stewart & Thigpen were not good QB's, but Gailey got production out of them. If Gailey can do the same with Edwards or Brohm, then I will Bill-eve in him as well.

And how many passes did TO drop not only last year, but in his career? Who is TO playing for this year?

Eli also had Plaxico "Mr. Gun Safety" Burress when they won the Superbowl. Plus, look at the Bills history of drafting QB's that have made the playoffs with the Bills. In the 50 year history of the Bills, there have been only 2 QB's the Bills drafted that made the playoffs with the Bills....let me say that again...2 QB's in 50 years....that's f@cking pathetic!!!!! The last one was Jim Kelly (don't anyone start the crap again about the USFL developing Kelly into an NFL ready QB). If Gailey can get production out of a guy like Mike Tomczak, who sucked horribly in Chicago, then let's give Edwards a chance under Gailey's mentoring and see what Gailey can do with him.

Here are some other stats about the two: In Brees' & Edwards' first 3 years (games they played the entire game), they thrown for under 200 yards: 10 times each Under 150 yards: Brees 3, Edwards 7 Under 100 yards: Brees 4, Edwards 0 Like Brees, Edwards has not had the offensive weapons. Dick Jauron and his lame ass offensive coordinators had no clue how to run an offense. They also had no clue how to get Lee Evans open, they kept lining him up on the outside. Reed was nothing special and took him years to finally develop some kind of ball catching consistency. Peerless Price was washed up when he came back. Robert Royal sucked. James Hardy went through rookie WR growing pains, then got injured and has been useless. Steve Johnson couldn't get a whiff of the field. Roscoe Parrish was benched. TO got pissed at Edwards and quit running routes in the Titans game, just so he could get Fitz in there. Our TE's (Fine, Schouman) have been below average. We might have some potential in Nelson. Before, the only offensive weapons the Bills had were Jackson, Lynch & Evans. Once Evans was double covered, our passing game was non-existent. This year, it looks like there is some potential at both the WR positions and at the TE positions. If Edwards wins the QB battle, lets see if he can take the next step.

Good post. I agree 100%.

I agree, also add Sage Rosenfels to that list. I'll never forget a very painful loss to the dolphins, when Rosenfels came in the game (due to injury) and had 272 passing yards in the 2nd half and beat the Bills, especially when the Bills were dominating that game up until Rosenfels came in.

Even if Bell Or Meredith don't develop into probowl LT's, if they can get decent production from either one, then that's huge for the Bills FO. If the experiment fails, the offense is going to struggle...again.

http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/7/19/...t-tackle-battle An interesting take on the LT competition. I agree with the author that it's a big gamble on Nix & Gailey's part to let a former 7th rounder & a former practice squad member battle it out for one of the most important positions on offense.

Hope everything went well. Good luck & hope you have a speedy recovery!

If I also remember correctly, the FG was kicked on 3rd down. Huge mistake not going for another quick run play/knee down and getting the FG unit out there. I don't remember if we had a time out left or not, but the FG unit could have rushed out and kicked a FG. The Broncos did that to us in the 2007 season opener with 10 seconds left on the clock and got a last second FG.

Thank you!! That's what I've been saying all along, he plays great for 1 game, then sucks for a bunch of games in a row. But, guys like Doc don't want to hear that. They're Flutie bashers and are mad that when Flutie was the starting QB, he wasn't lighting defenses up on a weekly basis. These bashers weren't satisfied with a win, they wanted blowouts. They're also the same people that wanted Kelly to retire during his last few years as a Bill.

If the decision had to have been made to switch QB's, it should have been done by week 8 at the very latest, not going into the playoffs. With the O-line being used to Flutie's snap count, there were many false start penalties, which backed up the offense into the endzone and the Titans got a sack on Johnson. Johnson was good at playing great for 1 game, then sucking for a bunch more. Johnson sucked for 58 minutes of the game vs the Titans. His fumble deep on our side of the field, was turned into a TD by the Titans offense on the next drive. So, between his fumble & sack in the endzone, he was responsible for 9 points against the Bills. Even Wade Phillips said on the Top 10 QB controversies "In Hindsight, Doug would have won us the game." Not only are fans saying it was the wrong decision, but NFL reporters and the horses mouth himself Wade Phillips have said it was the wrong decision. Ralph & Wade got greedy at the wrong time, they wanted more points out of the offense, but were too stupid to realize it was the absolute worst time to make the decision.

Mike, like you said, this guy hates Flutie so no matter anyone says, no matter what the stats say, this guy is a Flutie basher. I think between you & I, we've shown that Flutie was a better QB in Buffalo. You've also pointed out that both Flutie & superbowl winning QB Drew Brees had losing records in their 1st 3 years in SD, because SD was rebuilding, but this guy doesn't want to hear that. He just keeps throwing out the "he just wins" crap.

I liked Mularkey's creativity on offense. My favorite trick play from his time was when Bledsoe went in on a QB sneak and threw it back to Mcgahee, who then ran it in 33 yards for a TD. If Donahoe wasn't an idiot and would have given Bledsoe one more year as starter, who knows how the 2005 would have turned out. I think it would have been better than the 5-11 record between Holcomb & Losman. I'm not syaing Mularkey was a good HC, but he would have been a good OC for us.

Excuses, excuses, excuses... Bottom line, Flutie was better than Johnson. Flutie got screwed over in Buffalo. Flutie had the better Win/Loss record compared to Johnson in Buffalo. Flutie was a better leader on the offense compared to Johnson's laxidasical attitude. Flutie made the most out of a lot of broken plays. Flutie knew how to read defenses and make the changes on the line. Flutie was in the NFL a hell of a lot longer than Rob Johnson. Even Rich Eisen from NFL network laughed in disbelief that Rob Johnson was in a quarterback controversey. I'm not saying Flutie was awesome or even great, but he was better than Johnson, Todd Collins and Alex Van Pelt. Flutie worked with the bad O-line we had at that time. Too bad Flutie wasn't 6 or 7 inches taller. Another point, who helped sell the luxury seats? Was it Johnson? No... It was Flutie. So keep making up the excuses, I know you're a Flutie hater.
