He brought media distraction from his public comments and his age/production were no longer in his favour. That combination sealed his fate.

There always seems to be somebody at work who needs time off, what seems to be an excessive amount compared to everyone else. Coworkers roll their eyes and make jokes. I was fortunate enough to put 25 years in without needing any time away from work, then out of nowhere several personal emergencies and unfortunate life events happened one after another after another for several years. You just never know what a coworker is going through in life, especially if they don’t share details with those at work. I guess all I’m saying is if you live long enough you’ll experience rough stretches so maybe give the benefit of the doubt.

The conversation and shared moment I definitely see as appealing, but I think asking for a picture is just as weird as the autograph request unless you’re blowing it up and hanging it in a man cave I guess. I got a Sammy Morris autograph when I was in my 20s, I just happened to be in a mall in Hamilton Ontario and there was a table with 2 or 3 Bills there signing. I said to Sammy “ nice to meet ya, wow you really came outta nowhere this past season” He actually got a little offended and told me he hadn’t as he awkwardly smirked. I realized I offended him and just smiled and thanked him. That ended my autograph seeking career.

I never had an opinion on him as a person one way or the other, then he started doing regular appearances on the Pat McAfee podcast and I thought he was very interesting, intelligent and thoughtful. I realize the media has spun a narrative about him in the locker room, most likely there’s soon truth to it as I believe I recall a couple former teammates calling him out.
