  1. I watched just abouut every fla game and spikes is not only too slow, but also not very good playing the run. Basically he was great at making plays when florida was playing with a huge lead and the other team had to pass. Very good in zone coverage and and going after the qb, and if there was a chance to make a big play, he almost always made the most of it. However, if he had to cover RBs one on one out of the backfield he almost always got burned. And if the other team was running the ball he was either late in pursuit or getting pushed back. This was most evident in the SEC championship. I was terrified of the Bills drafting this guy.
  2. Yea, but if there's no league it hurts the players a lot more than the owners. The owners are billionaires with several other business ventures that already have more money than they could ever spend in 10 lifetimes and will continue to make money doing other things. This is obviously the most extreme example, but how high on Paul Allen's list of priorities do you think the Seahwaks are? I know a few players have other businesses, but the VAST majority of them will not find another profession that will pay them millions, or even hundreds of thousands for that matter. And some of them are living way beyond their means and are paycheck to paycheck as is.
  3. The fact that we were able to get 6 or 7 wins a year (with a lot more last minute losses than last minute wins) when we were near the worst in the league at scoring points AND stopping the run makes me think that if we're even average in either of these areas next year we should be a competitive team. However, i'm not sure that we have the talent at qb/ol/d-line/lb right now to make a significant improvement in these areas. Hopefully the new coaching staff and the rookies/free agents will make a difference, but I'm definitely skeptical.
  4. Like passing out on train tracks and peeing yourself?
  5. You forgot to mention that the one time you went to Rochester you stayed there for five years (and still didn't get laid).
  6. I think it's been discussed here, but basically the issue is that he gets paid to put up with peoples' crap on ESPN chats, he does TSW for free. I think most people will put up with a lot more crap at their jobs than they will when they're providing a free service. I mean, if you were volunteering at a soup kitchen, and all the homeless people were telling you your company sucked and co-workers were idiots, you'd probably look at it differently than when your clients are giving you a hard time at work.
  7. Chavous either watches more film than any active coach or has the best memory in the world. He was refrencing specific games and plays off the top of his head when talking about mid major and AA guys. I couldn't believe how in depth his knowledge is. We all know that key players for every team come from late round draft picks, so as a fan it's great to hear in depth scouting reports about these guys right away. I'll take that over watching McShay and Kiper argue about LeFevour for twenty minures because he's the only guy on the board that they've heard of.
  8. I think that you're a little over the top, but I generally agree. Look, draft grades are often wrong and it takes 3 years to judge them. Also, you can't criticize a GM or head coach when their team hasn't played a game yet. However, it's hard not to be disappointed that we're going into a season with zilch at qb and left tackle. Most unbiased observers will not think this was a good draft and they will pick us to finish last in the division, they may be wrong, but it's hard to give a team that hasn't made the playoffs this century the benefit of the doubt.
  9. My last comment was meant for this quote, i'm drunk, work is gonna suck in six hors
  10. very good point, you are also a winner, good night all
  11. Chad Pennington has had a better career than any qb we've drafted since kelly
  12. I always say there are two groups of people when it comes to trent edwards: The first group are the people that say he's shown flashes, he's been productive, and he definitlely would be good if he had a better situation with his o-line/coaching staff/receivers/health, etc. The second group are the people that watch the bills' games every week
  13. I follow the gators and watch spikes quite a bit. I would be extremely disappointed if we took him in the second. He definitely thrives when the team has a big lead and he can pin his ears back and blitz or get into pass coverage in obvious pass situations, but he struggles when the other team can focus on the run and he has to make reads and get off blocks from offensive linemen. This was exposed big time in the SEC championship game this year, as well as a couple other close games florida has played over the last two years. He's actually a lot like kawika mitchell, when he's in a position to make big plays he takes advantage (which I'll admit is a big deal), but play in and play out when in a base defense, he's either out of position or getting pushed around. Not what I'm looking for in a second rounder.
  14. He just got called for two false starts while you were writing that post
  15. Yea, I watch just about every giants game when they aren't on at the same time as the bills and pierce was a liability in 08, and in 09 was totally finished. All my giants fan friends complain about him more than we complain about keith ellison.
  16. While I admit the O line caused some problems with edwards, it definitely isn't the whole problem. When teams would drop back into 7 and 8 man coverages and make him find the open guy in the zone he just couldn't do it. He'd almost always end up checking down, scrambling, throwing it away, or throwing a pick (think cleveland MNF game). The guy just doesn't read the field well and its not always because he doesn't have enough time to.
  17. Checking down to freddy on 4th and 20 during the saints game this year was my official "I'm Done" moment with trent. I realize he doesn't have a lot of time usually, but the fact is, the only times he throws the ball down the field are if someone is one on one down the sideline. If that isn't the case, he checks down. I was hoping he would grow out of this, but when he chose to check down at a point where closing your eyes and throwing the ball 20 + yards down the field has a MUCH better chance of success, I realized it just wasn't gonna happen.
  18. My post was about him not landing a DC job in the NFL, had nothing to do with the princeton thing
  19. I don't want to bash jauron anymore, but I just can't help it. To all the posters here who said he was a good coach, respected around the league, just didn't have the talent to work with, etc. What does it say to you when he gets beat out for a d coordinator job by the guy who served under him for three years, then doesn't get any looks anywhere else? I mean, you look at a guy like mike nolan who failed as a head coach similar to the way DJ did, and he gets picked up as D coordinator right away twice. I'm sure people around the league like DJ as a person, but they definitely don't respect him as a coach.
  20. You're definitely trying to clausen, I know you are. Stop lying
  21. I never once said the o line wasn't important, that's why in my original post i said i'd be pissed if we took bradford over bulaga, I think it's very important. My post was aimed at the person who said that peyton manning wouldn't succeed with our O line. That is absolutely false. That's all I was getting at
  22. No, because of their defense, but I see where you're going
