RavensInsider The Bills have cut quarterback Levi Brown, according to a league source. Strong practice squad candidate
-
For me, it was JP. I was at the draft the year we took him and was hoping he would be our franchise QB. I really liked his atttitude and I thought he tried very hard. He simply could not learn how to read defenses. The crappy coaching throughout his years here didn't help. But in the end, he just simply wasn't good enough.

maybe the Bills will pick him up
-
Adam Schefter tweeted that Indy released OT Adam Terry but would like to bring him back after week 1 so his salary would not be guaranteed for the year. Buffalo should be on the phone with his agent right now. He would add solid depth at OT. This is exactly the type of player the Bills should be looking at. Sign him and find another guy like him to back up at G/C and I would be a lot less worried about the OL.

This is a no brainer. This kid has a good chance of being our #2 receiver at some point this year

Whats everyones surprise cuts???
Maddog69 replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They could cut both Brohm and Brown and put one of them on the PS (per Chris Brown, both are PS eligible) -
I expected to see Steve Johnson really step up this year. He was pretty much a non-factor in the preseason. Both Chad Jackson and David Nelson outperformed him. The good news is that it seems like we have several guys who might contribute at the position. Evans, Parrish, Johnson, Jackson, Nelson all look good. Roosevelt and Jones looked good too. Even Hardy had a few good catches. Maybe the solid production from the WRs is less a reflection on the receivers and more of a sign of what we'll see in the regular season with better play design, playcalling and QB/O-line play. It's nice to see some offensive production from the Bills.

Jerry Crafts with 2 broken legs would be an upgrade over Chambers -
Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4

GB matched the Bills offer and tried to keep Brohm. They saw the potential just like Buffalo did and they wanted to keep him. I don't know how many times people have to keep posting the ridiculous statement that GB did not want him so he must be bad. They would not have even bothered to keep him on the PS if they didn't see talent. -
Pittsburgh looking to trade Hartwig
Maddog69 replied to Maddog69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are probably right. I just figured Fitz is no worse than Leftwich and he was going to be starting, right ? It's just a thought. I'd love to see the Bills get Hartwig. AZ just traded Reggie Wells to Phi for a 6th. I would guess that would be fair for Hartwig. I would be good with that. -
I see that Pittsburgh is allowing Justin Hartwig to seek a trade. Since Pitt is pretty thin at QB right now, is it possible we could send them Fitz for Hartwig? Their salaries offset. The move allows Pittsburgh to get rid of Hartwig and pick up a QB who is capable of playing a few games while Pig Ben servies his time out. It also gives the Bills some much needed depth on OL. Hartwig is a decent C and can back up at G. You could also plug him in a C and have Hangartner backing up at G (a spot he played earlier in his career). Seems like it would make some sense for both teams.

I think the Bills are crazy if they cut Brohm and keep Brown on the active roster as the #3. Levi is clearly not ready to play in the NFL yet. He needs a year or two of development on a practice squad, whether it is ours or someone else's. I think we should stick with Trent, Fitz and Brohm. Cut Levi and pass him to the practice squad. If he gets picked up and kept on someone's active roster, so what. There are other guys avaialble that could be put on the Practice squad to develop. -
I thought about this last night. We could definitely use help at TE and having a local kid on the team would be fun. I expect the Bills to be watching the cut lists from other teams to find some TE help.

Well, you know what they say about opinions? We'll see how the season plays out. But it will be fun to come back to this post and see how the "experts" fared.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SPILLER PICK!!!
Maddog69 replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you must have missed the point of my message that the draft was 4 months ago. Not one regular season game has been played. It's far too early to make a determination on any of them. I completely understand the excitement about Spiller. I think he is going to be good. I just would have preferred the Bills to add players at areas of weakness with our #1 pick rather than adding another RB. Just a difference of opinion. -

So because Spiller has looked good in preseason AND because none of the QBs or Left tackles drafted 4 months ago have done anthing yet, the Bills were right in drafting Spiller? This is funny. Spiller might be an exciting player, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was the right pick. I am not saying he wasn't the BPA on the board, I just think that other options could and should have been explored. Maybe the were, but it appears to me that the Bills identified Spiller as their guy early on and jumped on him at 9. I personally would have rather seen them find a way to address some of the other areas of weakness on the team (OL, QB, LB, DL, WR) rather than adding another running back to the group we already had. RB was one of the clear strengths on the team and did not need to be added to. Again, I am not arguing that Spiller is a dynamic talent, I just think it was a luxury pick. Just my opinion. -
I understand with your logic and I agree with you for the most part. The only thing is that an extra win here or there could take you out of position to land a franchise QB. Take 2006. We beat Cincy on Christmas eve in a meaningless game. But that meant we dropped 2-3 draft positions and ended up missing out on Manning/Rivers/Big Ben. Had we not won that one game, we could potentially have had our franchise QB. I would much prefer to go 10-6. But if I have to sit through a 2-14 season to guarantee that we land the top QB in the draft, then so be it.

Passing vs. running. Which is more important?
Maddog69 replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On a related note, which is more important food or water? Both are vital. You cannot live without both just as you cannot be successful in the NFL without having a decent rushing game and passing game. Defenses will kill you if you are one dimensional, take the Bills of the last few years as an example. -
I could care less what Clayton's opinion is. Most of what he says is made up B.S. However, this article does seem fairly well reasoned and makes a lot of sense. That said, the players between 18 and 33 are roughly equal. You could make a case for moving certain players way up or way down. This article is one moronic person's opinion. I take it for what it is worth, really not much. I have not been a Trent disciple and had really low expectations for him this year, but he has performed much better than I expecting in the last two preseason games, so I am starting to have a little hope that Chan might actually find a way to make a leader out of him and we might have ourselves atleast a decent starting QB for a change. Go Trent. Go Bills.
-
He is entitled to his opinion and I agree that D and ST look to be the biggest issues for the Bills based on what we've seen so far in the preseason. But that could all change once the season starts. As far as losing to get the #1 pick to get a QB, its too early to think about that. Trent might actually turn into a decent QB. Based on the last couple performances, I've developed a small bit of optimism towards Trent. If he does well this year, then our early picks can be used for other positions OL,DL,LB, WR, etc. My point is that we should not get all up in arms over what WGR says. Nobody really knows what is going to happen. The Bills might actually be fun to watch this year.
