Who would you place at all time best LB?
KOKBILLS replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got that right!!! -
I'm not going to read back...But I was wondering how we got to a Fitz discussion in a thread about a LB vs LB trade... Not that I'm surprised of course...Just wondering...

Carrington is the odd man out? What in the world would give you that idea?...He perfectly suited for the DE position in a 3-4...As a depth player Carrington can fill in at just about any spot, other than NT, in any front...He brings the versatility this coaching staff craves...And he's one of a very few young players on the Bills Defense that has actually shown improvement over the past 2 seasons...He's also a very good Special Teams contributor... And like No Saint pointed out, Anderson is an OLB in the new Defense...He said so himself...

You noticed that too huh? "Old Skoal"

I would be in favor of trading KW mainly because he's getting older and he's already had some major injuries... But the other two...No thanks... Unless Bryd is just asking for the moon, and does not want to play here...Which I doubt... There is no way I would trade Stevie...Period... -
Oh boy...That did not take long...
-
I'm far more excited to see what CB Vernon Kerney brings at 6-2 with 4.49 speed...If he can keep showing well vs tougher competition he'll be a steal and a half...

Our Defensive Front - Pick from the GRAB BAG!
KOKBILLS replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that's exactly what they brought Branch in here for...Because I agree...Teams will run right at us with Dareus or KW in the middle...No question about it...And chances are they will have success running it just like the past two years...IMHO neither is an NFL NT, and until they can anchor a D-Line that is at least average in stopping the run I'm not going to back off that assessment...I realize better LB play will help...But as a pure NT I think both Dareus and KW are playing out-of-position...And that's just not good... -

I agree...Branch and Troup are the only pure NT's the Bills have...And Dareus should be a beast as a DE in the 3-4...Like he was at Alabama...I think we may see the base front 3 as Dareus, Branch, and KW...I think Mario will be outside in that Demarcus Ware-type position, with Anderson at the other OLB spot...But they are going to be cycling in front 7 players like crazy I imagine...It should be very interesting to see what Pettine can do with this bunch... -
You are... I agreed with his take on Nassib...I was only adding that, in general, the Manuel pick may have led to further the QB's slide in general...My comment was more about the QB class in general than Nassib specifically...
-
I agree with this take...And I also have a feeling...and it's just a hunch...that the teams like Oakland, J-Ville, Philly, Tampa, and Arizona who may have taken a QB in the 2nd Round, had their sights set (at least some of them did) on Manuel...I think once EJ went at #16 those teams immediately changed their strategy and decided to wait it out...

Plus I have a feeling Stevie is on a little bit of a mission to prove he's a hard working guy...His new thing on Twitter is "Let's work." May not seem like much...But I think it's pretty clear he took the criticism personally... -
I really like Pough's chances...Especially after the Shep trade if the Bills stand pat at ILB...I know Pough did not run well (his shuttle and 3-cone times did not help much either) at the Combine and that killed his Draft stock...But you watch him on tape, and you look at the production, it's surprising he ran that slow...He did have a sprained ankle during the 2012 season...I wonder if something was up during the workouts...Not that I think the kid has blazing speed or anything like that...He just does not look like a 4.8-4.9 guy on the field at all from the limited amount I've seen...I think he's got a chance to fill a depth spot and be a solid ST's player...
-
I'm not one to bash Kiper by any means...He's the main reason I got so involved in following the NFL Draft some 20 plus years ago... But that one quote...well...That's still got to sting a bit... Oh wow!!! I missed that somehow, and it was hilarious!!! What a great job Caliendo did!!! He's got him down pretty good!!!
-
I'm about 99.9% positive that the plan right now would see Alonso and Bradham starting inside...Things could certainly change...But I think that's the plan going forward...
-
Well...Point taken... But Pettine did get a hell of a lot more out of Maybin then the Bills ever did...Which admittedly is not saying much...If anything...
-
Agreed... It's going to be Alonso and Bradham in the middle...And the rest will fight it out for the depth spots...
-
I know right?...
-
Semi-productive? Kelvin Sheppard?... This is a scheme trade...Sheppard was going to sit behind Alonso and Brandham anyway...The Bills pick up a former #1 Draft pick that fits the 3-4 much better...He'll give them depth at OLB, and insurance in case Mark Anderson continues to get hurt...If Pettine could get Aaron Maybin to actually look like an NFL player, I can't wait to see what he can do with a guy like Hughes who actually has some ability... Getting upset about this deal is laughable...Obviously Pettine did not like Shep for his Defense...I do think this opens the door a bit for UDFA Keith Pough to grab a depth spot at ILB...

Wow!!! Big surprise...

Goodness he crushed that ball!!! Thanks for the input Ram... -
3 is a magic number after all...

Charles Davis and David Shaw also had really nice things to say about the Bills Draft...Especially Shaw who raved about Woods and Alonso...

What are you're expectations for this season?
KOKBILLS replied to Bills Fan888's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't expect any better than 8-8... I look at Seattle as the model, and they were 7-9 in Carroll's first two years (though they did make the Playoffs in 2010 at 7-9)... Anyway...I do think we will start seeing improvements on both sides of the ball...I think this Roster has a absolute ton of potential now...There are still holes, and there will be growing pains no question...But I just have a feeling that Marrone, Hackett, and Pettine are going to be light-years ahead of what we have seen here over the past decade plus...
