No way...Jordan is an all purpose LB who plays with decent leverage for his height...He can play in reverse...He covered slot WR's in College...He's 100 times the prospect Maybin was... -

Well...I'm a huge Steve Smith fan so...Probably, yes... But there is no way I'm going to assume Austin can be half the NFL WR that Smith has been...Players like Smith and Welker are so, so rare...I would never gamble with #8 overall on a WR that small...Especially for the Bills right now...No way... We'll see how it translates in the NFL...It's still a massive unknown IMHO... I don't dislike Austin as a player at all...I'm just saying regardless of what he did in College it's a HUGE risk in the Top 10...I just don't see the logic for the Bills taking a player like that right now...Could it pan out well? Sure it can...But the odds are not good...
-
I think he'll be long gone by #41...He's either the 2nd or 3rd CB depending on who is grading them...And CB's don't last long...
-
It absolutely matters...You know how many Steve Smith's are in the NFL? One...That's it...The chances that Austin will be the next Steve Smith, Wes Welker, or even Desean Jackson are remote because players that size generally do not live up to a #8 overall status...That's exactly why they were Drafted where they were Drafted...It's risk vs reward...And if Austin ends up like most 5-8-172 NFL WR's you'll be wishing like hell the Bills did not Draft him at #8 overall...I promise you that much...

Would you trade next year's first for a late first today?

Steve Smith - Round 3 - #74 overall... Smith is 5-9 and close to 200 lbs though...And knowing Smith pretty well (I lived in Charlotte for 20 years) I can tell you Smith is a bad, bad, man...He's tougher than steel...His desire and intangibles are absolutely off-the-charts...He's also had his share of injuries over the years...And like I said, there is no tougher dude in the NFL than Steve Smith... So size-wise he's kind of close to Austin...All the rest though I'm not so sure...
-
Exactly... I keep hearing these names...Welker, Jackson, Sproles, etc, compared to Austin...And here is the single thing these Austin at #8 fans are completely ignoring... Welker - Undrafted FA Jackson - 2nd Round - #49 overall Sproles - 4th Round - #130 I don't think anyone on this board is saying that Austin cannot become a very good NFL player...He can, and players who are basically his size have done well...But those players are VERY rare in the NFL...VERY rare...And that's why it's a tremendous gamble to take a player his size at #8 overall...And if there is one team that absolutely cannot afford to gamble on any position outside of QB, it's the Buffalo Bills...Especially when you are considering a player that is way...and I mean WAY out of the desired height/weight for his position...It's not smart Drafting...Taking Austin at #8 would be stupid, and that's not even saying he won't succeed...He may...they may get lucky...But it's absolutely not worth the risk...Not for this team...And not now... Percy Harvin was 5-11-192 at his Combine...He's no where near Austin's size...Desean Jackson is two inches taller than Austin...Welker is close to Austin's size...
-
I will throw things...Many things...I've already warned the neighbors... And I'm only half kidding...
-
I wish I could respond in this thread... But one of the things I pay for is silence...
-
I would not be too thrilled with that Draft...I don't want Austin at #8, I don't want to give up additional picks, and I'm not crazy about Barkley as the QB choice...So...Not digging this prediction at all...
-
The very best in College is no where near what he's going to face in the NFL...Just ask CJ... I really hope I'm wrong about this...And if the Bills pick Austin he truly turns out to be the next Wes Welker...Oh and I should mention...He damn well better be the next Wes Welker if you're Drafting him in the top 10...He needs to be that good to justify being Drafted there... But anyway... I think those of you who are trying to find reasons to endorse such a risky pick at #8 are going to be asking yourselves what the hell you were thinking 3 years from now...I know people always want to give the Bills the benefit of the doubt...So when considering Austin at #8 folks are going to scramble to support it no matter how dumb it seems on the surface...But ask yourselves how that line of thinking has that worked out over the past 13 years?... I just think Austin is a terrible pick for this team, at this time...We'll see though...At this point the Bills are due to have something work out right?...Aren't they? STEVE HOLT!!!
-
So true...I just heard he's grown 3" in the past 3 days as well... This is all too funny...

Whaley Bullish on Jones: the Landry six
KOKBILLS replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are higher on Jones than most teams it seems...Whaley and Buddy have talked him up quite a bit, and it's all sounded pretty genuine to me...They really like him...Buddy compared him favorably to Sam Bradford who went #1 overall...So...For whatever it's worth... -
As bad as the Bills FO has been at times over the past few years, I don't see them being a team that allows this type of info to leak unless it's erroneous in an attempt to push activity for Austin...If they truly do have Austin as the #1 player in this Draft we're all here talking for nothing...Because if so, this is the worst Scouting Staff in Football, and this team is flat out screwed...

Look...I understand Manuel had his issues with accuracy down-the-field...But I'm sorry...It is simply incorrect to say that a QB who completed 68% of his passes as a Sr. has accuracy problems...There were certain teams that gave Manuel a hard time...But that's going to happen with most any QB...The fact is in 10 of his 14 games EJ completed at least 60% of his passes...In 6 of those 14 he completed 70%...And in the 4 games he completed less than 60% one was 58.6%, and another was 59.5%...He only really struggled in one game last year vs. Florida... I'm not saying by any stretch that Manuel is a finished product...because he's clearly not...But that's exactly what makes him my favorite QB in this Draft...He's already shown he can be successful with average Coaching in a short-pass system in College...Now he's going to bring that 6-5 frame, strong arm, and 4.6 speed to the NFL...And the right Coach will make that kid a heck of a player in a couple years...The sky is the limit for Manuel...He's a smart kid and by all accounts a good leader...He's going to need work, but so did Kaepernick...Cam Newton still needs some work...But Manuel has that type of ability...No other QB in this Draft can say that...None of em'...
