Bills still not out of the running...
MDH replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More likely he's refering to David Carr, Courtney Brown, Tim Couch, Ki-Jana Carter, Dan Wilkinson, Steve Emtman, Jeff George, etc. -
I think it's way premature to assume Preston can come in and make all the line calls in addition to providing adequate holes/protection when we've really not seen anything from the kid. It’s also a bit much to expect a high first round LT to come in and play well right off the bat. The line you mention above might be a best way to go long term but I think JP would get killed behind it next year.
-
It's really not that big of a dilemma. You don't spend first round draft picks on QBs 2 out of 3 years. It's just idiotic, particularly when the first guy you've selected has shown signs that he could be a good one and he's only gotten 8-9 starts. This team needs to fix its OL and DL. You take D'Brickashaw Ferguson or Haloti Ngata. If both are on the board you consider moving down a position or two and picking up an extra 2nd or 3rd then selecting whichever one is left at your new draft position. If this team continues to draft the “sexy” players early to the detriment of the trenches I’m going to go ballistic.

This can't be accurate, Holcomb never checks down to the safe dump off.
-
I'll wait and see what Grossman does once teams game plan for him. Lots of guys step in and play well for a half and then go through the normal growing pains that inexperience brings. While Grossman definitely has more "upside" than Orton I have the feeling he's going to make way more mistakes too. This switch might not be to the Bears advantage given that it's difficult as hell to drive the length of the field against that D. If Grossman starts giving opposing teams a short field to work with the Bears might find themselves losing more often even if their O starts putting up more points. In the long run Grossman is definitely the guy I'm just not so sure I'd be comfortable with him in there the rest of the way this year...and that's saying something because I think Orton is absolutely horrible.

Holcomb had plenty of time to throw on Saturday night that excuse just doesn't fly, particularly in the face of the fact that Losman throws the ball down field, even when he's getting little to no protection.
-
If a team has a good D and a good running game ANY QB can lead a team to wins by not making mistakes, just check out Orton in Chicago. Checking down, dumping it off and punting on nearly every drive isn't indicitive of quality QB play. At some point a QB has to make some plays to help your team win. Holcomb doesn't do that.
-
Hearing Urlacher talk about how simple their D is was pretty interesting too. Nothing fancy, they only have a couple of different blitzes...they line up and just smack you.

Why is Shaud Williams allowed on the field
MDH replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Averaging 8 yards a carry doesn't mean much when the majority of your yards come on draw plays on 3rd and forever and the D has dropped 8-9 back in coverage. -
I totally disagree with this. Having something to play for keeps a team sharp. Not having something to play for for nearly a month isn't going to help this team. You can't rest your starters for 3 weeks and think they'll be ready to play come playoff time. Also to consider is momentum. If the Colts lose next week in Seattle they'll head to the playoffs losing 2 of their last 3. Contrast that with a team like the Pats who are likely to enter the playoffs with a 5 game winning streak or the Bengals who look like they'll enter with a 6 game win streak. How teams play in December will generally tell you how they're going to play come playoff time. If this Colt team loses next week I just can't see them winning the SB. It doesn't take but a few bad weeks for the wheels to fall off.

O-Line Not as Important as Skill Positions
MDH replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By taking the best player available it doesn't mean you take players at positions that you don't need. It means you work the draft, move down, pick up some additional draft picks (even if you have to lose some "points" to do it) and take a guy that you need that is near the top of your draft board at that point in the draft. Simply picking the best guy available at positions that are strengths on your team is beyond idiotic (and so is reaching for a pick that doesn't represent value because he's a position of need). -
Nicely done editing your post to take out the 3rd and 10 portion which was the critical part of your argument.
-
It's funny that TD is more concerned with his national appearance than his local. Taking the signs away just makes his local reputation worse (if that's possible) and the only thing it prevents are the signs being shown on highlight shows for the national audience.
-
More importantly the Colts now have absolutely nothing to play for in the next 3 weeks. Good luck coming out sharp in their first playoff game after that layoff.
-
The cards probably would have won the game had Warner not got hurt...or Green decided to play McCown instead of their 3rd string scrub. Of course I have Boldin and Fitz on my fantasy squad and Green's decision to go with the scrub 3rd stringer absolutely screwed me. I was licking my chops at the thought of Fitz and Boldin lighting that D up.

Moulds not picking up a first down on 1st or 2nd down because he was attempting to make a bigger play is a "knock"? Yeah, I want my WRs falling down the moment they catch the ball.
-
I love the people blaming playcalling for Holcomb checking down on 3/4 of the plays. There are guys past the first down marker Holcomb just refuses to take any chances with the ball. A WR has to be WIDE open for Holcomb to pull the trigger...and that just doesn't happen that often in the NFL.

Tell me why we punted from their 33 in the
MDH replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually I don't mind the playcall. With the icy field conditions I don't think there's anyway of kicking a FG and with Kelly "check down" Holcomb in the game the 4th down play would have ended up way short of the first down. Moorman is to be blamed for booting it into the endzone. Whatever happened to kickers kicking the ball out of bounds? -
The jets have trouble putting up a couple of scores a game. There aren't many teams in the NFL worse than the Bills right now...but the Jets are one of them.

O-Line Not as Important as Skill Positions
MDH replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course you're forgetting the fact that with Indy you're talking about 3 future HoFers. Everything being equal a good Oline will make average/good skill position players look great. Good skill position players end up looking bad behind a bad Oline. Sure Indy's skill guys would make this team better...but I'd bet cash that they wouldn't win the SB with this Oline. anyhow, if you're counting on the Bills needing HoFers back there to make up for the poor blocking that's not a sound plan. -
I love our "power running game". I don't know how many times I saw us line up in a 4-5 WR set last night. So much for this team having a power mentality. WM 9 rushes for, what, 35 yards? That's almost 4 yards a pop yet MM just won't commit to the run. Just pathetic.

Am I the only one who thinks Losman is better?
MDH replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since he's come back from his benching he's looked fine in every game exept last week. I don't know what you're expecting from a guy with half a season's worth of starts under his belt but it sounds like your expectations aren't realistic. -
Actually the point isn't really valid. After checking the play by play Moulds didn't catch any 3rd down passes short of the 1st down marker. This means that the play in question wasn't a 3rd down attempt. Moulds attempt to make a bigger play out of the routine is what he should be doing on 1st and 2nd downs. I don't see Promo complaining about the 2 or 3 times last night Moulds made the same move and made a 5-6 yard catch something more.

My God! What Team is Tirico and Sharpe watching?
MDH replied to KOKBILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think what the original poster is talking about is the fact that they outright said that "Donahoe is a good friend" and then went on to defend this team as if it was good. My favorite part was when they said that Buffalo was struggling because of injuries, not that they've had a lot but they've lost many "crucial players." Umm, other than Spikes what "crucial" players have the Bills played without this season? -
Last night was a classic example of how Holcomb is the new RJ. A guy that puts up plenty of decent looking stats but doesn't help your team win. The Bills were 4/12 converting 3rd downs last night. They threw the ball on 8 of those attempts. Here's how it broke down: 3rd and 4, 2 yard completion 3rd and 7, incomplete 3rd and 8, incomplete 3rd and 25, 2 yard completion 3rd and 8, 3 yard completion 3rd and 5, incomplete 3rd and 12, 10 yard completion 3rd and 1, 10 yard completion So Holcomb was 5/8 passing on 3rd downs...for one first down. Nice looking completion percentage that does absolutely nothing to help us win the game.
