This sounds reasonable, though I'd add that the Bills choking down the stretch helped to infuriate MM enough to want to take drastic action against Moulds. Adams refused to come off the field last year and got benched for the rest of the game. Moulds refusing to go on the field doesn't seem much different but Mularky wants to suspend him? That seems like a pretty big disparity between the two disciplinary actions. The fact that Mularky is getting lambasted by fans and the press for his play calling might have prompted him to look for a scapegoat...and conveniently he has one just sitting there on the sidelines in Moulds.

Keep telling yourself this and don't pay attention to the D coordinators that still rotate coverage to Moulds. The fact that you're trying to compliment Evans' blocking ability shows how irrational you are on this subject. Evans is a HORRIBLE blocker. The guy either doesn't try very hard or he gets called for holding, one or the other.

Except that Moulds hasn't done anything to attract attention to the situation, MM has. Moulds defered comment, MM is the one drawing attention to it by trying to suspend Moulds.

That sight is such a joke. -
Actually, he's right. Despite the fact that the offense moved the ball there were loads of Steeler fans that couldn't stand MM. They didn't like the type of offense he ran and thought he relied too heavily on gadget plays.

Yep, I agree. The thing that really upset/annoys me with this entire situation is that Moulds' time in a Buffalo uniform is going to end this way. Given the current state of the league and the way players move about from team to team Moulds was the one player we could count on to be here. Of the players on the current team, he is Mr. Buffalo Bill, a guy who has been here his entire 10-year career. It was already depressing enough knowing the guy wasn't going to be here next year (granted, deservingly so given his cap hit) but now to have it end like this. Just sad.

I'm begining to agree with Sam Adam's agent when he said that the coach is trying to single out players to divert attention away from the real problem, coaching.
-
I guess we should all be thankful that you're not the owner of the Bills then.

So why don't you blame TD for getting rid of Bledsoe then? It sounds like you blame the fans when, in reality, it was TD that made the move. Why not blame TD for getting rid of GW too early? He's the one that did it, not the fans. I'm not saying I agree with you on these two things, I don't, but if you think they were mistakes the man to pin those mistakes on is TD. Most of what you say is pretty spot on. Yeah, TD has done a good job of putting good skill position players on the field. But in the end what has that gotten us? Five years without the playoffs. Why should we expect that TD would finally put a solid OL on the field this year when he hasn't been able to do it yet? This team has gone from the D sucking and the O being good, to the O sucking and the D being good to both units currently sucking. Why on earth should we think that this team is on the cusp of winning? At some point TD has to be held accountable. No, I don't really want to go through an whole rebuilding period with a new GM and new coach but at the same time I don't want to stick to our present course when it's gotten us nowhere thus far. At what point do we say, "enough is enough, it's time to move on"? A lot of people think the time is now and I'm inclined to agree with them.
-
It may help rebuild both lines eventually. But counting on a few rookie DT and OL to help stabilize our lines is a bit much.

The Jets are the worst team in the NFL atm. They've scored 1 TD in the past FOUR games. There is no way the Bills lose to the Jets, even on the road.

How about Steve Mariuchi for Head Coach ?
MDH replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
JP is not perfect for the WC offense. The guy is a playmaker with a strong arm, somebody that works well when things break down and he can use his feet to buy more time. He is not a 3 step drop, plant and throw type of QB. This doesn't play to his strengths at all. -
So let me get this straight. When Moulds complains that the QB isn't giving the team the best chance to win he's "whining"? Why don't you interpret that as having passion and wanting to win? I'm not saying I agreed with Moulds that Losman needed to be sat, but I don't get how that's considered "not caring about winning". Obviously he cared, his opinion on what was best for the team was just different than yours (and mine).

Guess I'll be the voice of disent. Easterbrook makes it sound so simple in retrospect. Somehow the Bills should have known that if they didn't pass the ball 5 times then the game would have been won. First of all, had the Bills run the ball on every play the game wouldn’t have played out like it did…which means one can’t claim that the game would have ended in the exact same way (with the Phins on the 4 yard line with 6 seconds left). This kind of “logic” annoys me to no end. I'm not defending Mularky, he did a worse job at play calling than Easterbrook leads the reader to believe, and its not "because the Bills threw the ball 5 times" which is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. Does he really think that an entire quarter of 3 and outs by an offense running the ball on every single play is going to eat the clock? The playcalling in the quarter went like this: Now, if Anderson hadn't false started the Bills could have ran on 3rd down but with a 3rd and 8 I don't have a problem with attempting to keep the drive alive with a pass. Now, later in the 4th: This is where the play calling began to become pathetic. Holding a 23 to 10 lead with 11+ min remaining the coaches call 4 passes out of 5 plays. That's just horrid and I agree with Easterbrook here, they should have been looking to run the ball way more. However, not on every single play, that's just not going to get it done either. The 1:30 eaten up on this drive is a joke. Later in the quarter: The Bills are now leading 23 to 17 with 7:35 left in the quarter. The score is too close and there is too much time left on the clock to simply go into a shell and hope for a victory. At this point the objective should have been to pick up some first downs, at the least, or even better kick a FG. Simply running the ball on every single play isn't going to eat the rest of the clock up (unless our offensive line suddenly became bulldozers). Again, the proper call here is to mix it up. Don't simply run the ball in obvious running situations and throw it on 3rd and long...but this is exactly what Mularky did. Despite this, the PI call let the drive continue with a new set of downs so in a way Mularky was lucky here. It should be noted that the D was simply teeing off on JP on the two 3rd and long calls, which is exactly what we don't want. A smartly called short pass (perhaps a screen?) on one of the first downs might have caught the D off guard as they were stacking the line and put us in better down and distance on 3rd. I would have liked to have seen some play action here as well. Hell, I would have liked to have seen anything that would have taken advantage of the Phins playing the run overagressively. But Mularky went into a shell which cost the team. The 4 min chewed off the clock here wasn't nearly enough. The Bills needed to run the clock down under a min or put up some points. Anything less and I think everybody was expecting another Bills D collapse. And finally: This is the drive that cost us the game...and it follows what Easterbrook suggests, run on every down. The Phins had the two min warning and their time outs, running the ball wasn't going to eat all of the clock up, but getting a few first downs would have. I don't know how many times I've seen coaches lose games for their teams by running on every down and punting it away with the game on the line. Anyway, my problem with the play calling (in summery) is that it was way too aggressive when the Bills had a 2-3 score lead and way too conservative when it was dwindled down to a 1 score deficit. Mularky couldn’t have called it any worse.

My choice to head the list of candidates for
MDH replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Ralph fires TD and hires anybody but Modrak to the position MM is a goner, even if Ralph likes him. There's no way a new GM comes in here without wanting the ability to hire his own guy as HC. -

There's no way of knowing that either of those guys would have done a better job with the talent the Bills have here. I might grant you Coughlin as he has a decent track record, but Weis? The guy has done a great job...in college. How about we bring Pete Carroll in, he's had lots of success in college!? How about Steve Spurrier!? I'm not saying that Weis would fail in the NFL, but pointing to his success at Notre Dame is hardly proof he would have done better. There are loads of college coaches that never panned out in the NFL. That being said, I also preferred Weis at the time of the hiring but I have no clue how he would have faired. Granted, with both the OL and DL in shambles I don't think anybody could have gotten this team to the playoffs. I'm actually surprised we're competitive in most games. -

By "worked" do you mean another post-season collapse by Marty against the Jets last year? That team is loaded with talent, I'd wager MM could lead them to the playoffs...maneuvering through the playoffs is what's tricky. -
uh guys we have New England this week
MDH replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather win and get our young guys some confidence than lose and have to overpay for a high top 10 draft pick who, statistically, has no better chance of success than players picked in the 10-20 range. Our young guys believing him themselves (particularly JP) will go much farther in making this team successful next year than picking 5 spots higher. -
If the choice is between MM or Haslett I'm all for staying with ol' Mike.

Moulds wants to win and would not "mouth off" because he wasn't getting TDs. I recall a few years back when Moulds told Bledsoe to keep feeding the ball the Reed (Reed's rookie year) because they were doubling him and Reed was having a big game. I can't see Mould's bitching because he's not getting receptions when the team is winning. Now, if the team is losing, that's a different story...
-
My favorite response: Sweet, if these performances aren't bad, I wonder what we have to look forward to once this team really starts playing poorly!
-
I don't think the play was a set up for something else. I think they hoped that the Phins would stack the box against the play not expecting Roscoe to actually throw the ball. I'm sure MM line of thought was that If the WR can break the tackle of the CB it results in a TD.
-
Yeah it does. When the fans of the team you hate the most pity you and their team f'in sucks balls.

I Got Ripped for Blowing Up When MM Hired
MDH replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you didn't like the MM hiring because he had no previous coaching experience yet your "dream" list is headed by a guy that has no previous HC experience.
