Hot For Guidance Counselor -- Big Apple(s) edition
MDH replied to KD in CA's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Simulated sex acts? Where did you see/read that? I've seen photos at the mall in store windows that are more revealing than that. I've seen bikinis on beaches that are more revealing too. I guess teachers/guidance councilors should all be puritans who cover themselves from head to toe. -

Yeah, but it's going to take him over 2 hours to get to 120k feet so the actual jump won't be until around 4pm. -

I was just reading about this. Freefall of just over 22 miles and should be the first man to break the sound barrier without the use of a vehicle. Just crazy. -
Let's summarize: Jackson was told he'd never make it in the NFL, played around the world trying to improve his game and ended up - though hard work and determination alone - being one of the best, if not the best, all around back in the league. He can do it all, pick up blitzes, find small holes, make guys miss, plow through guys, catch the ball - and he does it all at a high level. He's fought off 1st round RB challenges his entire NFL career and come out on top each and every time. The entire team says Fred Jackson is the heart and sole of the team and if there's any player on the Bills I'd tell my son to look to as a role model, he'd be the guy. FJ is everything I admire in a player. He's the exact type of guy I root for and my mouth is agape that there are people out there how "hate" a player like this. To top is off let's look at the last game. Injured Fred Jackson with knee brace still on - 3.2 ypc vs. Niners Injured Spiller who has 2 perfectly good legs - 3.4 ypc vs. Niners How can you single out Jackson and say he sucks now? Neither guy is doing much behind this beat up OL.

The funniest thing about what we've seen from the D recently is that its a scheme that's built to not give up the big play. Very little blitzing, drop 7 guys back into coverage and make sure you make a tackle in front of you for a minimal gain. It's not Dungy's cover 2, but it's not too far off. Of course, as we all know, the Bills give up big plays over and over again. Guys running free in the secondary, behind the secondary, blown tackles, etc. The Niners had to have at least 12 plays of 20+ yards yesterday. So if you're giving up the big play anyway, you might as well f'in blitz some and at least try to pressure the QB into mistakes. Make him make quick decisions under duress, that's how turnovers happen. Because right now you're getting the worse of both worlds - no pressure and guys getting behind your secondary for giant chunks of yardage.

Vegas isn't disagreeing with people here. They're looking at records. All teams with a worse record than the Bills have worse odds (Chiefs, Browns, Titans, Jags and Raiders). The only team with an equal or better record than the Bills right now who has worse odds is the team that finished with the worst record in football last year (Colts.) I fail to see the point being made.

Yeah, a guy in major debt who doesn't have a job currently is glad not to be employed by the Bills...

I don't get my self worth from what some guys on a football field do so I'm not embarrassed at all. The men who lace up their shoes and put the pads on - they should be.

A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particuar order.....
MDH replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The one pass play just killed me. The Bills are starting to get moving a bit having already picked up a first down on the drive and are now in 3rd and 2. So what is the call? A incredibly low percentage pass down the left sideline in an attempt to get a big play. NEWSFLASH: When your offense is struggling and you're trying to get something going 3rd and 2 is not the time to try the deep throw - particularly not with a QB who has trouble with that throw. -
That all sounds good but mostly they need to win the turnover battle by at least 2. If they do that they have a solid chance of coming out ahead. Anything less and it's going to be tough.

Mario Williams playing with Injury?
MDH replied to FitzShowUsYourTitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, putting him on it every week was bullsh#t - and the NFL eventually got them to stop (granted it took forever.) That being said, what does that have to do with this? Nothing... -
Mario Williams playing with Injury?
MDH replied to FitzShowUsYourTitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? A player is claiming that an injury is preventing him from performing at a high level yet he's never appeared on the injury list, not even as a "probable." Hell, he's still not on the list this week. There are rules which players and coaches all know about. This appears to be breaking them. If it was NE doing something like this people would have their panties in a bunch saying they should suspend "Belicheat." So now, is Mario just making excuses? If so there's no rule violation. If he's not then he should have been on the report. The NFL should be looking into it. Investigating this doesn't preclude them from looking into blown calls, ect. They are not mutually exclusive. -
"Brees' selfishness to blame for Saints' 0&4 start"
MDH replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Blame the Saints, not Brees. Teams have to have a value they place on players - is he or isn't he worth it. If Brees' demands were above their means then they should have let him go and used that cash on other players. This is the way the market works. To blame a guy who wants to get paid his market value is ridiculous. Do you purposely short yourself 30% of your pay to help your company out? I seriously doubt it. -
The main issue here is Gronk. The guy is a beast blocking and a fantastic target down the field - you have to pick your poison. If the Bills stay in a nickle the Pats isolated the safety and made him be the guy who had to step up and make the play vs. the run. If they went to a base D then it's up to a LB to stay with Gronk vs the pass. That's a tough matchup for anybody and why a stud TE is a nightmare for defenses. That being said what was so frustrating is the Bills made no adjustments and just kept getting hammered. I would have preferred they tried anything different once it was apparent they couldn't stop the run (and it was apparent in the 1st half.)

Mario Williams playing with Injury?
MDH replied to FitzShowUsYourTitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Forget about measuring him against Bruce - measure him against the other top DEs in today's NFL. So far this season I wouldn't consider him a top tier DE, which is what most of us were hoping for. I'm not calling him a bust or saying his signing was a mistake, hell, we're only 4 games into this thing. But if his play doesn't improve dramatically by year's end this will be a signing the Bills will regret. -
4 days later and there are 2 plays I still can't get over
MDH replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fred Jackson does everything better than Spiller other than having break-away speed. Why is break away speed needed at the goal line? Are you suggesting that Spiller does a better job reading blocks, finding a crease, hitting it hard and moving the pile if need be? Because I've yet to see him do any of those things anywhere near the level that Jackson does. -
Have I Mentioned Recently How Much I Hate Bicyclists?
MDH replied to Chef Jim's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The guy in the SUV had a ton of room to pass - his need to pass wasn't why he was honking. Hell, other cars passed the SUV and the bikes to get around them. I hate douchebag bike riders too but if I was on that bike there's no way I'm moving over and giving that guy the satisfaction of having chased me off the road. I'd keep riding along right on the line just like those guys did even if the guy honked for 20 miles. -
Spiller taking responsibility for fumble

Who else's fault would it be? -
Watch other QBs - they miss WR badly too. I was watching the Giants game this week and Eli misses guys badly all the time. This isn't the problem. The biggest problem I see that Fitz does differently than top QBs is that he doesn't know when to throw the ball away and move on to the next play. Watch the good QBs play - the moment the play starts going south a guy like Brady or Manning just throw the ball into the dirt near a WR and move on. This prevents the big mistakes by forcing the ball. I can't think of the last time I saw Fitz give up on a play and just throw it away. If he could ever learn to do that the Bills would be much better off.

Gailey is right, mental toughness is the issue
MDH replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Defense is all about attitude. The leaders of the D need to get these guys pumped up and ready to go out and dominate - I'm not sure a coach can do it (particularly from the booth...) Part of what makes Ray Lewis so good isn't just his play, its how he inspires everybody around him to play with aggression. -

Jackson might not have been great running the ball (though the OL was horrible for both Spiller and Jackson) but he made two crucial third and long plays to extend drives that ended up in TDs. Without those plays the Bills send up punting on those drives.
