BILLS v. TITANS, Oct 21: Game Thread
MDH replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was hoping the Bills could hold the ball for 10 minutes so the Titans wouldn't see the field again this half. Bills are going to be down big at half unless the D can get it's head out of it's a#$ -

I'll say it again - if you're going to give up big chunks of yardage in the passing game anyway you might as well blitz. They have the worst of two worlds right now - no pressure and still give up passing yardage in huge chunks. -

Bryd went to the inside and by the time he recovered Johnson was gone. But that was obviously Fitz's fault as he should have directed a 10 minute drive to let the D rest more. -

They couldn't have stopped them anyway. This D is an pathetic. No clue how they went from bad to worse given the so-called talent influx. -
I have both an iPad and a regular kindle. The kindle is far, far superior for reading books and newspapers. The iPad is far, far superior for surfing the web (and reading comic books, which my son loves.) That beings said the iPad does books better than the kindle does the web. The iPad also, obviously, has the advantage of apps so it's the more well rounded device but it's nowhere near as good for reading (and it's way more expensive.). It all depends on what's more important to the user. Personally I think the fire sucks for reading. The regular kindle is the much better device for reading as it pretty accurately replicates reading text on a real page and isn't back lit. The fire is better for web browsing but if someone wants a reading device you can't beat the regular kindle.

NFL’s breast cancer awareness effort is making a difference
MDH replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me guess, all you guys making fun of this woman do everything you're supposed to do health wise, right? None of you are overweight, drink too much, smoke, you work out daily for at least 45 min and you watch what you eat making sure not to overdo sugar, saturated fats or processed foods. I'm sure none of you ever make mistakes or bad decisions or have to be reminded on occasion to do something you need to do. Yeah, I'm sure you guys all do these things because otherwise you'd be a bunch of hypocrites who like to think that they're smarter than the world but are really just a bunch of douche-bags. -
Hey, don't get your panties in a bunch because you said talked **** that wasn't true and someone called you on it. And, actually, I care. I have a lot more respect for stand up guys than those who shift blame to others and don't take responsibility. If I had to guess, I'd say you're one of the latter types of people, right? Or you're a teenager. Those are the only people I know who don't have respect for stand up guys. The bottom line is that Fitz plays as well as he can and owns up to it when its not good enough. You can't ask anymore out of a person. I don't get the Fitz hate. He can't play better than he is. So if you're pissed at the QB play B word at the front office. It's not Fitz's fault he is the team's only option at QB.

What excuses are those? All I've read are quotes where he takes all the responsibility for the offense's struggles in the passing game. Rip the guy apart for his play this year but to try to rip him as a leader, teammate or person is just ridiculous. From everything I've seen/heard from him he's been nothing but a stand up guy.
-
Good luck trying to get any lady-friends to trust you in the future when you prove to be a vindictive SOB.

The guy's charity did raise roughly $500,000,000 to help fight cancer. Cheating aside, that's deserving of respect. Nobody is all good or all bad. People make bad choices but it doesn't mean nothing they've done is worthwhile. I'd say the guy deserves lots of respect for his philanthropic venture. That being said I have no sympathy for him for his his titles being stripped or the bashing he's getting from all sides. He deserves that too.

I've been a Phillies fan for most of my life. Them and the Bills are two of the worst franchises - in terms of winning - in their respective leagues. The Phillies were the first professional sports team with 10,000 losses. Rooting for them and the Bills has been an exercise in frustration for the most part. So hell yeah, it was amazingly satisfying seeing them win a title in 2008 after decades of futility. I had tears in my eyes, a million texts and calls from friends none of whom are Philly fans but they know how important it was to me. It was great. Even these past few years (until this year) have been great. Sure they haven't come up with another title but it's a lot more fun seeing a team win on a consistent basis than it is to always be uttering "wait till next year."
-
For all you guys saying it's because of non-contact during practices that reason might work if every team in the league were having this problem. But they're not. Sure every team misses tackles but I don't notice a increase in missed tackles across the league.

Have multiple posts in this thread really gone to the "have patience" line? 12 years later this same line is being spewed? 3 years into the Gaily regime this line is still being spewed? What, anytime any change is made to the coaching staff that immediately lets them off the hook for that year? I've seen lots of other teams make changes to their D coordinator - without the two straight defensive heavy drafts and big free agent moves- and not give up 3 games of 40+ points in the first 5 weeks of the season. Those fans in San Francisco need to "have patience" with Jim Harbaugh and D coordinator Vic Fangio being that they're only into the second year with the team. Maybe by year four they'll be pretty good.

Actually I haven't noticed this at all on the Bills D. What I have noticed is that they appear to be trying to make a tackle AND strip the ball at the same time and it often results in neither happening.

All Time Best QB Rating Games...Buffalo's "Enabler" Defens
MDH replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't care who the QB is but his numbers for the game aren't even that great: 12/17 for 186 yards with 3TDs and 2 INTs 5 runs for 26 yards THAT'S the greatest game a QB has ever had in the past few seasons? Somehow that's a better game than Palmer's 20/24 for 233yds 5TDs 0INTs -
Seriously, when do you think Fred Jackson gets traded?

Can we trade some posters on TSW for a few from a Chiefs message board? I'd be on board with that trade. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order.....
MDH replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That "expansion level team" went 6-10, 7-9, 7-9 and 7-9 in the previous 4 seasons with Jauron as the coach and Edwards and Losman as the primary QBs. While not good it's not expansion level and those 7-9 records are something the current front office has yet to match. As Nix says, show me the baby. On paper I like Nix has done for the most part but the bottom line is that until this team wins games and gets into the playoffs they're just a paper lion. And so far this D has proven to be just that. -
The counter was the dirtiest area - I don't even consider that part of the 5 second rule. If something hits the counter it's no big deal. But according to this you're better off with the food dropping on the tiled floor of your kitchen than you are the kitchen counter...

There are actually people out there who think the Bills don't need WR help? Sure Fitz has struggled but to suggest Jones is a quality #2 is an outlandish point of view. Except for Stevie this team has nobody at the WR position who would see the field on any quality team. Just because the QB is struggling doesn't mean you ignore other areas of your team.

Article: When do you quit on a franchise QB
MDH replied to quinnearlysghost88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couldn't someone argue - by your same rational - that the defenses poor performance effects the offense? If Fitz sees that the D can't stop anybody he starts pressing and trying to force throws because he knows they have to score a lot of points because the D sucks. It's a cyclical argument. Sure the O and D effect each other but that's just making excuses for one or the other. The bottom line is the D has been horrendous and Fitz has been erratic. I'm not going to make excuses for either, they should both be held accountable because they have both been major factors in the Bills struggles this year. -
One has to wonder why we have a kickoff specialist in the first place. Take a look at these stats from last year and this year. 2012 - The Bills are ranked 15th in the league in touchback percentage at 50%. - They are ranked 15th in the league in opponents avg. starting field position at 23.9. 2011 - The Bills ranked 30th in touchback percentage at 24.05% - They ranked 1st in the league in opponents avg. starting field position at 20.4. It would appear that the only reason to have a KO specialist is to avoid injuries on kickoffs because the stats don't back up wasting a roster spot. Last year the Bills kicked off 75 times so if that number is matched this year the added kick off coverages saved will be roughly 19. So the Bills avg. 3.5 yards worse in opponents avg. starting spot and they save the potential injuries from covering 19 extra kicks by having a KO specialist.

This is going to spell trouble for the Bills when the BCS decides who gets in the playoffs and who stays home.

A 4:00 offense - why haven't we had one in so long?
MDH replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last week they were on their way to a nice drive before that idiotic play. Arizona: -5:54 left. Fitz Incomplete. Short pass to FJ for 12 yards on first down for a new set of downs. -FJ 7 yard run. FJ 3 yard run for a new set of downs. -FJ 1 yard run and then the ill-conceived pass play from Brad Smith. Everyone has a problem with the pass but why the hell was Smith in the game right then when FJ had picked up two first downs and was having success? Against Cleveland : - 6:03 left they tried running it 3 times with Choice but he gained 3 yards on each carry and had to punt on 4th and 1. - 4:21 left they run Choice twice. He loses 2 yards on the first carry and gains 4 on the second. On 3rd Fitz scrambles for 7. 4th and 1 and another punt. Can't fault Gaily in this game, they just didn't get the job done though not having FJ likely hurt. Against KC: - 6:26 left the run White 3 times for 9 yards. 4th and 1 they are forced to punt. - 1:10 left. They kneel with Thigpen for -1 yard and then run White twice for 2 yards and have to punt on 4th and 9 with 50 seconds left on the clock. Again not having FJ likely hurt in this one again though I have to scratch my head as to why Gaily is kneeling the ball with 1:10 on the clock and KC has 3 timeouts left. Sure the Bills were up big and it didn't matter but I'm not sure why you wouldn't run the ball 3 times in this instance. It's almost like Gaily was going to kneel the game out and then realized that KC had all their time outs and wasn't just going to give up. I'd say our biggest problem in the the Clev and KC games was the absence of Jackson. On three of the punts they had to do so on 4th and 1 with White and Choice running the ball.
