Being a blue-chip prospect means that your chance of success is far greater than someone who is not rated as highly. What percentage of 1st round QBs succeed in the NFL compared to ones drafted in the 3rd round or later? Yeah... big difference in likelihood that a player will succeed. You can never say that a player will or won't be a bust, but you can find out which players have the highest chance of succeeding. Therefore, all you are arguing is that there is a possibility that Tebow will be good. I would agree with that, but the likelihood is that he will NOT be a successful QB. And yes, "hundreds" was an exaggeration, however it doesn't mean that the overlying theme is incorrect.

There are over 100+ teams in the FBS division. Tim Tebow has below average accuracy, which means that over 50 QBs in division 1 football are more accurate than he is. Yeah, i want a QB like that. Someone explain to me how great leadership skills will help him throw NFL passes.

You manage to lose credibility every time you disregard the consensus of NFL scouts. The fact is that NFL scouts are scared to death of his throwing motion, and they agree that he is less accurate than the average college QB. Of course, it would be just like you to take 2 throws and extrapolate them out to cover an entire career. How about the hundreds of times that Tebow has thrown to a wide open receiver, but the ball is behind them? How about the times when he throws it on the wrong shoulder? You don't notice those because his receivers usually have no one within 5-10 yards of them. The fact is that there is a consensus that Tim Tebow is not a blue-chip QB prospect. You trying to hype him as one is fairly laughable. Tebow shows almost none of the abilities that pocket passers like Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen have.

Kelly: Move on from Edwards. Target Tebow. (linkage)

If you run a power offense, teams will simply stack the box. Tebow has a terribly slow release, and has below average accuracy... for a college QB. Please tell me how he is going to fare against NFL defenses if the average college QB is more accurate and has a much quicker release? Not to mention the fact that he has never played in a pro-style offense, and lining up under center 90% of the time will be completely foreign to him. -
Someone explain to me how leadership skills will get the ball 20 yards down field to a barely open WR. Any scout who has seen Tebow play, knows that he is incapable of making that throw 8 times out of 10.

What a load of bull ****. Are you really advocating spending a high pick on a player, even though you would have to completely revamp your personnel and coaches for that player to even have a shot at not being a bust? The only way you could put Tebow in, and not have to have him sit for 4-5 years to become a pro-style QB, would be to switch to a spread-option type offense. No offense in the NFL has the personnel to run that type of sheme. That would mean that you would have to draft your entire offense to fit one player's skill sets. Not to mention the spread-option isn't even guaranteed to work. This is what you would have to do to get Tebow to be successful at QB: A) sit him for 4-5 years while he learns to operate in a pro-style offense, and completely revamps his footwork and mechanics. OR 1) spend a high pick on him 2) switch to a spread-option 3) fire all your coaches 4) hire spread-option coaches from the college game 5) draft players that fit the spread-option 6) hope that the player you did all this for isn't a bust. -

The difference between a RB and QB is that a RB runs lower to the ground, and therefore avoids the devastating hit. That is why you rarely see RBs over 6-1, with most being 5-11 or smaller. Tebow's height will do him no favors when it comes to holding up when running up the middle. Tebow runs upright, and NFL linebackers will have plenty of opportunities to lay some big hits on him. -

You're right, things won't stay the same. The NFL is becoming more and more a pocket passer's league. The Brady rule is evidence of that. So is the fact that the winning percentage of teams with a 100 yard rusher is at an all time low. Accurate, efficient QBs that don't turn the ball over win games. I would not spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a QB so he can play in the Wildcat. Especially if that player runs more like a FB, rather than the elusive style that helps a player avoid big hits. If Tebow tries running the way he does in college when he gets to the NFL, he will be on IR before week 8. We would be far better off drafting a QB like Bradford. -

Tarkenton did not play in the modern NFL (he could still effectively throw from the pocket). The reason people are questioning his ability to play QB in the NFL, is because he has shown a very marginal ability to throw NFL passes. Tebow does not excel throwing the ball, and his biggest strength is his mobility... which is something that will be severely impugned by NFL defenses. -

No, its a fact. None of what you listed means **** if Tebow can't deliver the ball from the pocket. Name me one franchise QB that wasn't a pocket passer. -
Jimmy Clausen to enter 2010 Draft
Fingon replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bradford is by far the best QB in the draft. I would take him in a heart beat. -
Sam Bradford should be #1 on our board. He is ultra accurate, with a strong arm. He might slip to us because of his injury, but i really doubt it. He has Peyton Manning-like accuracy, and does a very good job of anticipating receivers being open. He also makes good decisions, can read defenses, and has a quick release. His only short comings are his injuries, but he is far too talented to pass up if he falls to us. If i was looking for the next Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, I would look for someone with traits like Bradford.

Tom Brady was battle tested at Michigan? You guys do realize that the college football season is pretty much over before it starts snowing, right?
-
I'm pretty sure he has 1 year left on his contract. Who is to say that if we get Shanahan here, or another good coach that he doesn't do well next year?
-
But he would get a guy from Jacksonville, Florida? Kelly is clearly not the brightest guy.

I wouldn't trade up for a QB this year, unless the front office absolutey falls in love with one prospect. There are too many legitimate QBs coming out this year. -

Jimmy Johnson would argue with Jim Kelly: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/danpatrick/blog/87182/ I would say that Jimmy Johnson is far and beyond a better talent evaluator than Jim Kelly. Also, pocket passers may have fizzled out, but there are no good QBs today who can't throw from the pocket. -

Fingon replied to Lv-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tim Tebow is not an NFL quarterback. He has below average accuracy, a terrible throwing motion, average arm strength, a questionable ability to read defenses, and has played his entire career in the spread option. His "intangibles" and ability to "just win" mean nothing in the NFL. He isn't going to a team full of All-Americans, and he isn't going to have the luxury of throwing to wide open receivers. Tebow will not be able to run the ball in the NFL, unless he plays Wildcat QB... but in that case he would not be an every down QB. If you want a franchise QB, you go after a pocket passer. -
I hope that the Bills' get a Vince Young-type QB.

Martz reportedly wants to be Bills coach
Fingon replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know.... I think Martz could be effective with the weapons we have here. If we re-signed T.O. I think he could put up a lot of yards. He was really out of place in S.F., besides Frank Gore... they don't have much to work with.
