  1. It's been a typical winter in Austin, TX - lots of 50's & 60's with only a handful of nights under 32 degrees. No ice storms yet, not a single flake of snow. It was 83 degrees this past Sunday.
  2. It would be nice if they could build that into a loop that would also include San Antonio and Austin. They could go from Houston to San Antonio following either IH10 or Hwy 71, then come straight up IH35 from San Antonio, through Austin, and back to DFW.
  3. According to the State Dept, 'we can't kill our way out of this war', so we need to grow their economies in order to provide them jobs. http://youtu.be/Sd0_U87nyoU Jimmy Carter must be feeling pretty good about himself right now.
  4. Holy crap, you just stole the crown from Gatorman.
  5. He doesn't need to. He is.
  6. At least they're coming clean in equating socialists with progressives, but they're really reaching in calling Jim Hightower a 'great Texas populist'.
  7. I think most people call and report suspicious activity, and probably don't even mention race until they're asked for a description. You can describe people however you want, but emphasizing race from the outset strikes me as unnecessary. Do you think police will respond more quickly if you identify someone's skin color immediately upon calling them?
  8. If he was skinny and black, I'd call him a skinny black guy. This is of course, is presuming the meaning of 'black' to be 'African American'. This guy wasn't African American, he was Indian. Therefore, not black.
  9. I suspect that if that man had been a skinny 57 year old from somewhere like the Ukraine or Bosnia who didn't speak any english, he likely would have suffered the same as Patel, under the same circumstances. There's as much in the cops' actions to accuse them of simply being heavy-handed jerks as there is to accuse them of racism. The guy who called 911 about 'a skinny black guy' wandering around the neighborhood sounds pretty racist though.
  10. It only takes between 0.1 & 0.2 amps of current to kill a human being.
  11. He has an ego.
  12. I was there for the January 17th 1982 'nothing above zero' day. I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence that it was later that year that I moved away.
  13. The tonight show didn't have a political bent to it - at least not during its heyday with Johnny Carson. Both shows are driven by the hosts's personality and sensibilities, but Stewart's style is decidedly more political. They'll have to replace him with someone else of a similar political stripe who is also funny enough while being as quick-witted an interviewer. I can't think of anyone who fits that bill.
  14. They probably feel that they have to do something, since Walker's poll numbers go up every time he speaks, as opposed to Hillary, whose poll numbers always go down when she speaks.
  15. You presume an awful lot. I didn't even offer an opinion on the subject. Stop being such a sanctimonious blowhard and just post a link when you call out another post as being fake. You may well be right, but at least have the courtesy to share the source of your enlightenment with others. It makes for good conversation.
  16. Because he said so.
  17. I think their daily 'Special Report' is pretty good. It's not overly sensationalized and fairly straight forward, and their panel usually has a better balance of political viewpoints than most other panel shows. They could do themselves a solid in terms of credibility and non-partisanship if they were to jettison Hannity.
  18. As much as I like The Daily Show, it's depressing to think that it actually ranks as any kind of actual news program in peoples' minds.
  19. Comedy Central should just end The Daily Show when Stewart leaves. He saved the show when he replaced Craig Kilborn, and made it the success it's become because of his personality and comedy style. I'm sure they could continue the show without him, but they would have to mold it around a new personality, and I don't think anyone can match Stewart - let alone top him - in the Daily Show format. It would be like replacing Cartman in South Park.
  20. I stopped trying to grasp Star Trek's techno-babble as soon as they started talking about' Heisenberg Compensators'.
