I daresay I could see a spike in sales as well.

This isn't a health issue, it's a tax issue. They have no intention of trying to reduce the amount of sodas consumed if they're planning to tax it. In addition, any claims that the money raised will go toward offsetting health care costs is a classic example of government BS.

California lawmakers propose soda tax, banning cola at checkout areas Assemblyman David Chiu (D-San Francisco) also likened the soda industry to the “tobacco industry,” accusing it of using “tactics to victimize low-income communities, communities of color throughout our country,” USA Today reported. https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/california-lawmakers-propose-soda-tax-banning-cola-at-checkout-areas

I'm not offering support for or argument against, just passing along what I heard while preparing to leave for work this morning.

As I understand it, the $250M figure was arrived at because that's what Bezos paid for the paper. Whether or not that's a good tactic or a sensible amount is another matter.

I don't think she understands much of what she's saying at all, rather she just regurgitates Marxist platitudes with the fervor of someone who's never been told how &%$#ing ridiculous her ideas are because she's halfway good-looking. -

Speaking of Daryl, I saw Blade II over the weekend (I hadn't seen it in years) with a much younger Norman Reedus as Scud: -
Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread

I didn't mean to imply that I found it surprising, only that I find the trend to be troubling. You're looking at the situation sensibly, while opponents of the EC are not. They don't care about what it takes to be rid of the EC, just that they want it gone. -
Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread

Trope or not, it gains momentum every time the left loses. The number of people who support doing away with the electoral college is growing at an alarming rate. -

Nothing like having both houses of congress, the joint chiefs, the cabinet, etc sing Happy Birthday to you. -

He's much better at the game than I had given him credit for at the outset of his campaign, that's for sure. -

I think it's unfair to judge anyone for something like this from 35 years ago through the lens of 2019 racial sensitivity. He might have been a racist, but then again he might not - a person wearing blackface in 1984 is not a valid indicator. If he is to be judged, I'd say he was definitely guilty of poor taste, as well as a lack of sensitivity. But on the other hand, it's tough to ignore a nickname like "Coonman". -

First, I'm neither a mod nor an admin. I'm just another schlub who posts here, so I don't know. I would suggest you call the admin's attention to anything you believe to be unreasonably offensive (not to be confused with feeling butthurt over something you don't approve of). Second, are you referring to the thread Gator started? I'm not even sure I get your point, but if that's what you meant, then no. I find much of what Gator posts to be disagreeable, but all he's doing is yanking people's chains; if you engage him, you get exactly what you deserve. Third, what exactly is a "call out thread"? Do you mean starting a thread directly challenging something someone else has said? if so, then it wouldn't be much of a political forum if we couldn't do that.
