Global warming err Climate change HOAX
Azalin replied to Very wide right's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Nye also needs to clarify one of his points. He stated that as the oceans warm, they expand. That is not true. Water expands as it cools and contracts as it warms. The only thing he could have been referring to is the melting of polar or glacial ice, but he should make that distinction if he is going to argue from the scientific perspective. -

I'm not answering for TYTT, but his position appears to be much like mine, so allow me to clarify from my own point of view: just because I believe that everyone is equal regardless of race, gender, etc, doesn't mean that I think they haven't had significantly different life experiences. In fact, I would expect that they would. That doesn't mean that I will treat them any differently than I would expect to be treated myself. It would seem that it's not so much what someone does, but instead how much they claim to care. -

I watched that the other night. Nye comes off as more of a preacher than a scientist. -

President Trump's "alternate facts"

That's likely what it will turn out to be, but nobody will know unless they look for the correction several weeks from now buried deep in section B. -

The only thing I said about you is that you're ignorant. That could change. All you have to do is ride your high horse down off of that soap box and join the rest of us in the real world. Skin color doesn't matter. Ethnicity doesn't matter. Gender doesn't matter. Sexual preference doesn't matter. People will never be treated equally until we stop listening to people who are trying to separate us from each other. And I don't give a crap if you reply to me or not. As long as you remain on this forum, I will call out anything foolish I see, regardless of who posts it. If you need to close your eyes and ears to what others are saying, then you will never, ever learn a goddam thing. That's why I called you ignorant. -

You really should consider playing along. If there was ever a thread worth Godwining, this is it. -

I treat everybody the same regardless of their ethnicity, you do not, and I'm the ignorant one? -

And you can do that by learning to ignore what are only superficial differences in people and stop paying any attention at all to peoples' race. A really, really intelligent and respected fellow once suggested we judge people by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin. I think that's a better way to go. -
But Dorkington and I were talking about that and you jumped in, dipshit. Save your indignation for when you actually deserve it, and pay attention to what others are actually talking about if you want to chime in.

I remember going to places like the Pine Lodge or Stockman's Tavern for Friday fish fries - you just can't find northern pike on anyone's menu here in Texas. The places were indeed full of cigarette smoke, but there were no video games anywhere yet, only pinball machines. It was a long time ago The water in toilets flush in a directional fashion - the ports where the water enters the bowl are angled to cause a swirl, so in order to see that effect in the southern hemisphere you'd have to fill a sink, wait for the water to be still, then open the drain - it will swirl in the opposite direction than it would in the northern hemisphere.

You're right. Rosita has been treating just about everyone like garbage though, but the overall effect on Eugene has left him acting like a lost, frightened puppy. It makes me wonder how far his loyalty to Neegan will go once the inevitable battle begins.

I was referring to my experiences walking up and ordering at the counter. The drive through is without question an infinitely worse experience. True story - there was a Tex-Mex place in San Antonio called Sombrero Rosa (the place was built in the shape of a gigantic, pink, neon-trimmed sombrero - not tacky at all) that would get my order not just wrong, but ridiculously wrong, every single time I went through the drive through. To get even with them (this was 1990 - I was much younger and quicker to anger) I would order four or five different dinner plates, then pull out of the line, drive around to the front of the line, and order even more food, repeating the process until I had sufficiently laughed myself into a state of relative non-anger. Schrodinger indeed - with Heisenberg tendencies. One place I go serves great quesadillas, but I often like to have diced tomatoes added inside them along with the diced onion & chiles, but every single time, they come out on the side - sometimes in a separate dish, sometimes as slices on a separate plate, sometimes diced and added to the garnish, sometimes diced and sprinkled across the top of the quesadilla slices. In other words, there is no way you can be certain that you will get diced tomatoes and know how they will be presented.

I tend to agree with you. Eugene's likeable enough, but he's going to glom onto whoever is most likely to keep him alive. I imagine that he's pretty good at justifying that in his mind, too.

I don't know what it's like where you live, but in my neck of the woods we have a bit of a language issue in most kitchens & food assembly-areas. More often than not "no tomatoes" will net you extra tomatoes, and occasionally you'll get no lettuce, extra mayo, and two kids-meal sized french fries. I eagerly await the kiosks.

Having had a moment to think about it, I suspect that instead of offering options to leave off items/ingredients, they'll probably offer the "classic" version, and an alternative "build-your-own". That way it only shows up in your food if you specifically ask for it that way. Still, that's by no means an infallible system either.

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
Azalin replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Just for grins I'd like to see non-political items placed into that poll, just to see how well these pols & parties fare by comparison. Like for instance, chlamydia, tumors, or gatorman. Could Pelosi possibly be less popular than anal warts? -
This will go a long way in resolving my number one complaint about fast food restaurants: screwing up my order. Honestly, no matter where I go, there's at least a 40% chance of my order being wrong. Make that 80% if I order something as radical as "no cheese".

They're not "keeping marijuana illegal because it impairs driving", it's illegal for a host of reasons, most of which I believe to be BS. The fact that a handful of states now permit the use of marijuana for recreational use is an indicator of how the public's view of weed is changing, and it's likely just a matter of time before the majority of Americans believe it should be completely legal. At that point, legislators will either adopt the will of their constituents, or they'll be replaced. Repeal of marijuana laws will happen, just not as quickly as some would like.

The tofu and wine in particular, I imagine.

For what it's worth, I believe gypsum (the main ingredient in drywall) is found in some foods, hair products, and other mundane commodities. I believe it's essentially an inert ingredient if it's used in pharmaceuticals.
