Just got royally screwed by Bank of America
Fezmid replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not always true (and with a mortgage, it's all but impossible to avoid the big banks, as they generally end up buying your mortgage no matter where you originally go). My mortgage was purchased by Wells Fargo shortly after we signed the paperwork. Because it's an FHA, I'm forced to put my property taxes in escrow every month, and Wells Fargo then sends a check to pay them off. Well, five or six years ago, they sent me something saying, "Forward us the tax bill and we'll pay it for you." This was on December ~15th. I called them up and said that I hadn't received it yet and wanted to make sure I could deduct the property taxes from my income taxes THAT year. They told me that they couldn't pay it without me forwarding them the paperwork - and that it would take a week or two to process the paperwork once they received it. I called back every day for the next week because I still hadn't received my tax bill. Each time, they said that worse case scenario, I could pay the taxes myself and then get a reimbursement check. Fair enough. So once I received the tax bill, I sent in my payment, and when I got the receipt, called up Wells Fargo. Turns out that they actually paid the tax bill too, even though I didn't send them any of the paperwork! So now the state had two payments from me. I called them up to get a refund, but was told that they can only refund the newest payment - and since they received my check before Wells Fargo's check, they could only send the money back to Wells Fargo. They were able to straighten it out after a few weeks, but I was not happy and wrote them a letter telling them so, and also asking for $100 to cover my inconvenience. Everyone though that was crazy - but a couple of days later I received a phone call from the VP of customer service (or something like that), and he was happy to give me the money and apologized profusely. (maybe they violated some law and I could've sued for more or something ). Regardless, I was happy with the outcome and felt like they took care of me to fix their mistake. -
I like "Flixster" -- get movie times, watch movie trailers, and see what ratings people gave it on Rotten Tomatoes.

New Iphone can do everything but make phone calls

Why wouldn't they just buy an iPod Touch then...? -
Anyone with Sirius/XM and wants a deal....
Fezmid replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My wife had XM radio for a few years. We canceled it a couple of years ago when her radio broke and we didn't want to buy a new one, but we were only paying $77/year. Looks like similar deals are still out there: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.ph...0&t=1993170 Looks like 6 months for $34. -

I hear that they have really good fraud protection for all debit card purchases... -

How are the two even close to the same...?? When you buy a phone, don't you assume it can be used to make phone calls without having to buy a rubber case for it...? -
Tickets are really hard to get and expensive because it's their home opener. I have relatives in that area, and they're having a hard time getting tickets.

Nfl sunday ticket; Who's signing up?
Fezmid replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm an NFL fan, so while I always watch the Bills games, I do like being able to watch other matchups as well. If you wanted to stay, you should've said, "It's too expensive, but I'd stay for $X or if you give me X, Y, and Z." This thread is funny because you have some people complaining that, "When I say cancel, I don't want to be jerked around, just cancel," and then you have some people (like this post) complaining that they called to cancel and weren't offered anything. They're not mind readers - if you want something, ask for it. The worst that will happen is they'll say "No." (this goes for all companies) -

I couldn't find a link to "New World Order" from the Tyranny album - it was voted the best prog metal song of the year, but I couldn't find it on YouTube. -

Most important game of the 2010 season......
Fezmid replied to BillsFanInLV's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The most important game is the Superbowl - I don't want to go 0-5 in the Big Game... But if we have to go 0-5 in Superbowls, so be it. -
Fun little game. http://www.mofunzone.com/popups/ninja_run.shtml I ran 1326m on my first try.

The clam chowder/bread I order isn't fast food (it's from a relatively nice restaurant), costs only $4, and is much tastier than fast food. I just call the restaurant ahead so that it's ready when I get there.

Fantasy Studs & Duds for the 2010 Season
Fezmid replied to Rush23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm in a keeper league and really want Moreno from Denver to pan out - but I'm not so sure I should actually take the risk... We can only keep 4, and I already have Rivers, Roddy White, Colston, and Steven Jackson... Not sure who on that list I would drop to keep Moreno... -
How can you not be impressed by Bioshock....? The game has the most atmosphere and the best storyline of any FPS... I'll second Batman, although some people find it boring (BlueFire and a friend of mine at work at the very least). I absolutely loved it though, and I'm not really a big Batman fan.

Technical Recruiters - Worthwhile or Worthless?
Fezmid replied to SDS's topic in Off the Wall Archives
One of my former employees was contacted by a recruiter that landed him a job. As others have said, if they know of current openings, it's helpful. Then again, what do I know about technology? -
I took a Photoshop course a few years ago and it was on a Mac (with a mouse with only one button, I might add). The first thing I did was bring up Firefox and figure out how to get a command line shell. When it came to backing our files up, I did an scp to copy them to my home server. The instructor walked by and asked what I was doing. She looked completely confused when I explained, shrugged her shoulders and left.

One feature I actually do like in Office 2007 is that if you highlight a block of text, and then hover over the various changes (font, font size, color, etc), it shows a great preview of what it will look like. Don't like what you see, then don't click on the new color, font, etc. Pretty handy. The context menu (right mouse click) has a lot more helpful tools as well. The ribbon is still lame. Most of those complaints aren't OS related, but are application related. In your example, Word is auto formatting (you can turn that off); it's occasionally helpful but also frequently annoying. The OS doesn't install crap all over the place either - those are the applications you choose to install that do that. Yes, when you buy a PC from HP or Dell, there's crap installed all over the place, but why do you think it's so cheap? They subsidize the cost with advertising. Buy your own copy of Windows 7, install that, and you won't have the crud factor. Most things people blame on the OS have absolutely nothing to do with the OS...

Peggle's fun -- but I didn't like the demo on the 360. It seems much better with a mouse to aim...
-
Weren't you the one telling everyone to install it a couple of years ago? And I don't blame OOo - I blame MS for changing their format. Worked fine before. (luckily, still works fine for me! )

I updated your list for you.

Personally don't care. I've told my wife, "Do whatever you want. Bury, cremate, float down a river, whatever. I won't care since I'll be dead."
