  1. You're showing your age -- 5 cents?!
  2. Last I checked, you don't need a food license to mow a lawn or babysit... If you don't like the law, you don't just blatantly ignore it - you work to get the law changed. And why are you such a sexist? Boys can babysit and girls can mow lawns too you know.
  3. Have to mostly agree with Jack here... "The law is blind," right?
  4. Wouldn't that be a case for him to be in the HOF, since he ran the offense by himself...? As for Reed, he definitely belongs in the HOF. I can't find a reference to the quote, but I remember reading that Rice said Reed was just as good as he was. High praise.
  5. Your sarcasm meter broken today, Tom? My point was that it's stupid to have a law covering every specific thing someone can be doing behind the wheel (ie: cell phones while driving), when we already have general laws that cover these sorts of things. Jack - I read the article. Specifically this part: ""In our society, distracted driving has become an epidemic," Foreman noted, adding that he hopes the notoriety surrounding the case might help discourage motorists from driving while performing other tasks." If a police officer sees you painting your nails while driving (or texting on a cell phone), you're going to get pulled over and ticketed. If you kill someone while painting your nails (or texting on a cell phone), you're going to jail. We didn't need a law barring people from painting their nails to successfully prosecute this woman.
  6. Why'd she get any time in jail? Is there a law for "no painting your nails while driving?' (sorry, still ranting against the "no cell phone" laws, which are stupid and already in the books under "inattentive driving").
  7. Maybe they hired Wilson to guard.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/2...ilson-argentina

  10. DTV does not have a monopoly. You have plenty of options to experience the NFL: 1) Fly to Buffalo (or whatever city they're in), buy a ticket, and watch the game live 2) Go to a sports bar and watch the game there 3) Find the radio feed of your favorite team and listen (often times for free I believe) 4) Watch the many free games that CBS, FOX, NFLN, and ESPN broadcast It's hardly a monopoly. Lots of people watch the NFL and don't have Sunday Ticket. And as for your, "many companies won't reduce their price if you just ask" comment - I can tell you've never asked, because I've received discounts at Best Buy just for asking. You have to ask a manager, not a regular guy, but it happens. No, you're not going to get a discount on a candy bar most likely, but if you're buying something bigger (like a television), you can generally get at least 10% off. And what do you think price matching is all about?
  11. Not sure if there's a market for this... But the NFL thinks there is. http://hd.engadget.com/2010/07/30/nfl-to-s...e-in-hd-for-40/
  12. I'm skeptical that the story is real... Why would a guy at Dell extort a Dell laptop from the woman...? Wouldn't it be less risky to simply steal one from work...?? ""And I'm telling myself, my conscience is talking to me saying, 'Tara, don't send this. What are you doing? Are you crazy?' I sent it anyways because I really believed in this guy. I really had faith that he was protecting my dignity." So you really had faith in the guy that you claim you saw copy the pictures off of your computer onto his... And post them online... So much so that sending him a new laptop made sense??? And how did she know what site the photos wound up on....?
  13. Free BBQ is stoopid....?
  14. But unlike secretaries, we can make your life at work miserable. I brought this day up to my boss, and he authorized a huge BBQ for all of the admins -- we did it yesterday since a bunch of people were off today.
  15. Happy Sysadmin Day to all of the sysadmins out there. Scott --
  16. I hope you never fly on an airplane, stay at a hotel, or buy a car... Because guess what, chances are at some point you have paid more than the guy sitting next to you on the plane or in the room across the hall from you at the hotel or driving the same car as you on the road. There's nothing unethical about it. If you don't like the price, you can ask for a cheaper price. They can say yes or they can say no. If you don't want to ask for a cheaper price you won't GET a cheaper price. Many companies will reduce their price for you if you just ask. I fail to see how ethics play into this. Leaving your disdain for DirecTV/Sunday Ticket out of the equation, is a company always supposed to offer their lowest price up front?
  17. Two points: 1) Many people in this thread have complained that DirecTV (and other companies) jerk them around and don't just cancel when they say cancel. The other half of the people complain that the company cancels them when they say they want to cancel. Which side is right? 2) Did you actually READ THE THREAD?! I very clearly stated to talk to retention and tell them what you want and to NOT threaten to cancel. No need to threaten - just say, "I'll buy ST if you give me X, Y, and/or Z." Looks like you read enough to know what you wanted, but you never told the company what you wanted. They're not mind readers.
  18. Since used capital letters, I'm assuming you mean you have this? http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2009/05/2...asylum-cast.htm What's the problem again....?
  19. He reached his goal! He's looking for more (he's always said he'll need about 20% more than the goal stated), and the fundraiser is over in less than 10 days. There's a new video update too.
  20. Apparently not, since they're only banning texting while driving.
  21. And we have also become a nation that creates too many laws for stupid stuff. We already have a law against texting while driving - it's called "inattentive driving." But based on these "laws," apparently I can send email or browse the web while driving, but I can't text? Where does it end? With "inattentive driving" tickets. Duh.
  22. This article was interesting - school districts getting rid of "C" and "D" grades. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38428180/ns/lo...hiladelphia_pa/ Nothing at all to do with bands though...
  23. Why is this a poll with no poll.....?
  24. I'd just like to point out that EFF (http://www.eff.org) is the organization that brought this lawsuit up fought to give customers more rights over the hardware that they own. https://www.eff.org/press/archives/2010/07/26 I've said for many years that I'm a big supporter of EFF - and donate a little bit to them every year because of the good work they do. Some posters have attacked them as being like the ACLU or whatever, but those people are completely off base. So if you have a few extra bucks and like the work they do, consider making a small donation. It's tax deductible too. https://w2.eff.org/donate/index.php?s_src=h...s_subsrc=navbar
