  1. I usually stay to see if the IT folks got any credit in the movie. Since all movies use a ton of technology nowadays, you'd think they would always get credits - but more often than not, they don't.
  2. Photoshop or Camera RAW? I find that I do most of my work in ACR nowadays...
  3. Probably, considering Windows boots up (including POST) in about 12 seconds... Win7 comes out of sleep in 3-4 seconds.
  4. You haven't been paying attention then.... Windows 7 is leaps and bounds better than Vista. I actually really like it - seems very stable, boots up quickly, installs quickly. I don't know how much of that is the monster PC I built (SSD drive, 12G of RAM, i7 920 quad core, water cooled), but the thing is smooth as silk. I can even boot Photoshop in less than 3 seconds. Like I said, a lot of the speed is the SSD drive, but overall the OS seems very good.
  5. And luckiest.... If someone was in the lane next to him....
  6. Cops record audio when you get pulled over as well...
  7. Again, the point of the thread is NOT his driving. Yes, charge him with reckless driving, whatever. Why is everyone ignoring the slippery slope of not allowing civilians to record law enforcement in a public place....?
  8. And they can happen to both Windows and Mac: http://www.macworld.com/article/138943/200...nerability.html Acrobat Reader is getting so bloated, and 95% of the features aren't very important IMHO, so I'm thinking it's time to skip Reader and use a different PDF viewer.
  9. Happy Birthday!
  10. So it's ok for cops to pull guns on innocent civilians without any warning and without any indication as to why it happened. That's not really what I wanted to discuss in this thread though -- the more interesting portion of it (IMHO) is the fact that the government is charging him with a criminal offense (up to 5 years in prison) for simply recording the exchange. I don't think it's going to hold up, and I think the motorcyclist is going to get a nice payday from the police department when all is said and done, but I'm curious what other people think about that part.
  11. How about taking 30 seconds after the fact and say, "We're sorry for the inconvenience. Your car matched the description of someone that had just been involved in a hit and run that resulted in a death but we've confirmed that it wasnt' you?"
  12. Motorcyclist was going 100mph down the interstate, recording it all with a helmet cam. A plain-clothes police officer in an unmarked car pulls him over, pulls his gun out (that'd freak me out...), before identifying himself. The motorcyclist was recording the whole thing (video and audio), and posted it on YouTube. Cops came and took his computers, camera, etc, and are threatening to prosecute him for "illegal wiretap," despite the fact that in general you have no expectation of privacy in a public space (plus, the police record video/audio of every traffic stop, why can't a citizen...?) Thoughts? http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/crime/201...ording.cops.cnn Some discussion from Photo.net: http://photo.net/street-documentary-photography-forum/00WXbQ
  13. Exactly. While some of the things I mentioned were a bit more difficult, burning a CD and booting off of it is trivial - kids know how to do it.
  14. Yup, they're immune. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20004709-263.html http://secunia.com/advisories/38932/ http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/913...vulnerabilities
  15. Didn't stay at the Luxor, but we've done the Vegas trip many years ago.
  16. The Alaska cruise is very cool - we did that back in '02 and had a GREAT time. The only downer was that we didn't get to see Hubbard Glacier -- one of the people on the ship had a heart attack so the ship had to leave to get by land. He ended up passing away. We did a Hawaii cruise too, where we left San Diego, went across the Pacific, spent a day on each island, then went back to San Diego. VERY relaxing and fun. We'll have to keep Panama on the list, maybe for our next trip. It's official - we're going to the Mediterranean. A few days in Barcelona, two days in Cairo, and a day in Athens, Rhodes, Sicily, and Malta. Should be fun - we go in November.
  17. That's assuming he's using the OS installed on the machine. There's nothing to stop him from burning a boot ISO from the internet, popping it in the DVD tray, and booting off of that instead. Best part - no logs for dad to be able to see. Can do the same thing with USB. Yes, you could potentially block booting from anything but the harddrive -- but he could reset the CMOS to avoid that... #1 rule in security - if you can't stop the bad guy (the son, in this case) from having physical access to the box, you can't protect the box.
  18. Agreed. All of the software solutions can be easily bypassed.
  19. Oh, I hadn't realized that most ships go through at night. That would definitely be disappointing!
  20. I actually said that to her yesterday -- why aren't we helping our own economy? Her counter was, "We don't have the Great Pyramids here." Tough to argue that one...
  21. Based on your review, my wife has apparently decided she doesn't want to go to Panama anymore. Instead she wants to go to the Mediterranean - Barcelona, Athens, Rhodes, Cairo, and Malta. The price just went up, since airfare overseas is VERY expensive. Thanks a lot!
