Hughes will be 31 in 2 years. It would be smarter to find another DE in the draft between then and now, pay them half the price, and let another team pay for the downslope of Hughes' career. If we want this team to find a franchise QB, sooner or later we will have to accept that a franchise QB eats up 20+ million of the cap. You can't be paying your whole DL 10+ million AND a franchise QB 20+ million without opening holes elsewhere. Big picture.

IMO taking a $5.8 million dead cap hit next year just to save $4.6 million would be very dumb. I think he has at least two more years here. If cut after the 2018 season, it's a $2.9 million dead cap hit, with $7.5 million in relief. That timing would also coincide with Shaq Lawson coming up for an extension off of his rookie deal, and is prior to there being any financially feasible out on Dareus' deal. (2019 is the first out there, with a $7.8 million dead cap hit for a roughly $10.2 million savings)

See my other post. It could have been a "Jerry, WTF was that all about" and led to a "coach, I have X and Y going on with my wife/girlfriend/brother whatever"
-
Remember these guys are human too. He could have something going on with his wife or family and just showed up to practice in a sour mood. We have all done it, showed up to work like someone pissed in our Cheerios and had to explain it later.

What pick do you have? What type of league?
JM57 replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in Fantasy Football
#9 in a 12 team. Probably right in the AJ Green, Mike Evans, Melvin Gordon area unless someone off the wall goes in the first 8 -
I would have been 346. Look at me.

Who cares? How does someone sitting or kneeling during the anthem effect you? It doesn't.

Go on record regarding the trades
JM57 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a STH and I'll say on the record that I'm on board. It sucks, I liked Sammy. I hated he had injury troubles but don't blame him for that. I think he has an enormous amount of talent. I think it's going to go to waste in LA with Goff under center and he's going to have to sign a 1 year prove it deal for next season, a la Jeffery or Pryor, even if he stays healthy. I think we can say the same thing about Matthews and Gaines vs. Watkins and Darby. Less pure talent perhaps, but a better scheme fit and possibly lower cost on contract number 2. Gaines is a zone corner, Matthews is a prototype West Coast offense WR. I like Tyrod, but he has his limitations. I'll gladly take a season of sitting in my seats with a "come what may" attitude if it means that I'm watching a potential franchise QB next year. Unless this team somehow outperforms expectations immensely, they aren't making the playoffs. Two picks in each of the first three rounds should provide Beane with more than enough ammo to move up as far as he needs to get a franchise QB. I'm 29 years old and barely remember anything before the Home Run Throwback. The first game I remember attending, Todd Collins was the QB. I don't remember the good old glory years. All I know is sadness and mediocrity. I'm ready for Darnold, or Rosen, or Allen, or Rudolph. Let's do this. -
If I could find their scouting reports from their draft years I'd be willing to bet one of those phrases was in there

Who are you looking forward to seeing play Thursday??
JM57 replied to cover1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm rooting for James, loved him on Hard Knocks. IIRC he has the ability to return as well. But the deck is stacked against him, haven't heard much in any of the camp reports -
Agreed. Poster who said it was unnecessary seems to be a BBMBer based on registration date, just missed out on the joke, but Kirby absolutely nailed the explanation. Lunchbox hall of fame team: Tim Anderson, Ryan Denney, Chris Kelsay, Aaron Schobel, Kyle Williams, Paul Posluszny, etc.
-
Frazier also began his career coaching under Johnson, so it's not like the system is unknown to him.

Yeah, I parked there for the Thursday night game last year and left with some cuts on my legs from cars popping glass beer bottles as they were leaving the lot. Not my favorite spot. It was an absolute disaster leaving that lot.
-
All that crazy stuff goes down in that lot just before the entrance to Lot 5 on Southwestern, correct?
-
I'm going with Press Covfefe
-
I'm not following your logic though. He caught a lot of passes on an offense with no weapons, as you say. Wouldn't that be MORE difficult, considering the lack of threats around him? You're also kind of selectively twisting numbers. You say 5 years. But he has only played 52 games in 5 years due to the foot injuries. Only 3 games in 2014 and 1 in 2015.
-
Naming the quarterbacks actually hurts your case. So yes, he was able to produce as part of a hilariously under talented offense a few years ago and then was hit by the injury bug. As noted elsewhere it seems that he also suffered a Jones fracture in his foot (same injury as Watkins). It's not unreasonable to think he could still produce if he is healthy now.

Bills Release 1st Unofficial Depth Chart
JM57 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has already jumped one rung and they haven't played any games yet. He has 4 chances to put it on film against other teams. For all we know, maybe Humber really is flourishing in this system. But there's lots of time still. -

I'd say he's your #1 slot guy and the first one to kick outside in the case of Watkins or Jones missing time. X/Z: Watkins/Jones backed up by Boldin, Holmes, Streater and Tate Slot: Boldin followed by Jones and Philly Brown. Philly Brown may not be long for this team. I don't know if they would keep 7 WR. It sounds like Streater has had a very good camp. Holmes has been struggling with drops and I haven't heard anything, negative or positive, of Brown. One of Holmes or Brown might have to go if Tate locks down the returner job. Watkins, Jones, Boldin are locks, Tate will be if he wins the returner job which means you can pick 2: Holmes, Streater, Brown He should be an asset in the red zone as at this point in his career he's really learned to offset his loss of speed with more effectively using his huge frame to box out defenders. If Holmes makes the team he should also be an asset down there with his height. Could be a fun year for the offense. Let's hope the defense comes together. -
As a die hard Bills fan what are some of the sacrifices.

I watched that Chiefs game on TV in the hospital. My wife was 8 months pregnant with our first and had some complications. She was in the hospital bed having fever dreams and I was wandering the room trying to not lose my mind as they found way after hilarious way to not football well. Miserable experience. 1/10, would not recommend -

I'd rather have Hauschka than a 4th to be honest. But I'd trade Holmes, Davis and Ducasse for a 3rd. Then just sign cuts from elsewhere to fill their spots.
