Poz quoted in Wannstache interview
Swift Sylvan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How many players can we realistically upgrade this off-season? If we had to rank our defensive players where does Poz fit? -
We are asking is Fitz good enough to win games for us? This is tough because based on what our D is capable of what one asks Fitz to do versus what Eli Manning has to do with his D are different. I mean let's pretend quarterbacks are cooks. Obviously Peyton, Brady, etc...are better cooks, but they are being asked to do different things on different time constraints. We're comparing Fitz to other quarterbacks, but what they are asked to do isn't even. Part of that is Fitz fault, but the majority isn't. Maybe he has worse ingredients, maybe he has less time, it just seems sort of arbitrary to argue how good of a QB Fitz is when the team as a whole is in need of some serious upgrade. The only thing we can really be certain of is that Fitz is much better than Brohm, Brown, and Trent #&($(% Edwards.

Beast Mode to the Playoffs with a Losing Team
Swift Sylvan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing is, Marshawn is going to the playoffs on a 7-9 team, I mean it would be more impressive if the Bills didn't accomplish 7-9 multiple times Marshawn was with us. -

Does this mean we shouldn't expect a resigning of Poz? -
Tebow could never get another chance to play in the league and would be more likely to be okay with that than most of the other NFL players. I thought the story of Jesus (whether myth or legend) was to come to earth and die so others could live. I also agree with this, although I think kickers can definitely be considered exceptions to this....well at least in the losing the game category.

Peter King Writes Regarding Fitzpatrick
Swift Sylvan replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well that's always a possibility, I think from playing on a team sport it just becomes so obvious of what you can and can't accomplish in a year. Of course if madden were like the real NFL who would play? -
Peter King Writes Regarding Fitzpatrick
Swift Sylvan replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1, sure we can always improve...but that in itself is the problem we can improve anywhere and everywhere MAYBE with the exception of DT for one spot. I sort of imagine us as the kid who walks in to a candy store and sees all the amazing different possibilities of what we could have and how amazing (and yes it would be amazing) for this all to take place. The problem is that we only have a $10 allowance and we're just incapable of getting everything we want. With what we have at QB I'd say that unless we somehow get an amazing bargain (Luck) then we probably should invest in something else. -

+1 If we have a top level position there is no need to spend time improving it considering the rest of our team is 2-9. -
I never watch the games so obviously I am at a disadvantage here. Poz averages 10 tackles a game, has 4 pass deflections, and 1 sack. Looking at that the stats seem decent. Listening to people critique his game Poz is about on par with everyone else in that one week no one mentions him and the next 80% of people say he is terrible with 20% who focus on the larger picture (Kelly, Raimus, Dean, etc...) speaking of which as Raimus pointed out these complaints rival that of Fletcher, which probably means that Poz is doing fine if he is even being compared to Fletcher. As to whether Poz is a poor player I sort of see as irrelevant. The better question is, is there a feasible to get better talent at ILB than what we have with Poz and if so how many of our resources do we have to use in order to accomplish this? If we draft the best player each time then chances are we will draft a player worse than Poz. Also, as someone mentioned earlier we need to compare Poz to our other linebackers and it seems that none of them play better than him at this point in time. Poz could be the 100th best linebacker in the NFL, but if the rest of our LB's are 120 and beyond then the one we should hold on to the longest is Poz. Is there any legitimate reason to not resign Poz?

I would think that it would be easier for a right DE to get sacks than a left DE. Let's say the tackles are even, I would think that as most Qb's are right handed they will be able to see a LDE coming as oppose to a RDE (The blindside).

I am going to say it....Bills don't need a QB
Swift Sylvan replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Will the best player available give us the best chances of reaching the superbowl in the future? I think so, so my answer is, "Yes." -
It is going to hurt us getting the most talented QB in any draft and thus be less likely to be able to develop him in to our leader for 10 years and have a legitimate chance of the superbowl, true. On the other hand if we were to be so bad as to get the number 1 pick would we have the talent and ability for the QB to become successful? Perhaps Peyton Manning would be Peyton Manning anywhere with any talent, but I have to doubt that most QB's are so good that their output isn't effected by the players around them. Even if we were to only go 10-6 in the next 5 years, we don't know if our QB would develop and live from being sacked 50+ times. At least with the 10-6 the rest of our team becomes more talented as well as us becoming more attractive for free agents where even if we were to falter we still could have a good foundation to groom a QB of second tier talent which really drafting 10-20 can still get us a good enough QB. Rodgers was in the 20's, Brees second round, etc.... It's one of those things where there are so many factors we can't really know, but for every player we have who can win, will give every other playing more breathing room for when opponents take their focus off them.

Except if we're being honest, Chad has led teams to the playoffs (For us getting to the playoffs is fantastic right now) and more importantly doesn't just check down. The fact is that whether he throws it 3 yards or 30 he has proven to be an effective enough player to win games. Franchise? Of course not. Will he play well? Who knows. However he has led the Dolphins and Jets to the playoffs.

The Worst Decade of Drafting In NFL History?
Swift Sylvan replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The things is, looking back and saying what if is impossible because to say we would have drafted those players with the same success would be to ignore the coaching, level of talent around them to help them get easier matchups, play after play of fortunately avoiding injury (Wood's from last year I would think is an example of poor luck). I know this is football, but didn't the Butterfly Effect teach us anything? Who knows how things would have actually turned out. I think the real point of this thinking, and I do it all the time, is the idea that with a little more knowledge it would have been easier to control the situation we are in and have prevented it. The problem with this is that it assumes that hindsight is 20/20 and that having just hit on a few more people our team clearly would be a contender. -
Sarcastic or not, I think PTR makes an excellent point though. It is a bit early for us to want Kolb. We have seen him play only a small sample of games and it is this type of thinking that could get us a franchise QB or a Rob Johnson. If anything we should want Vick because he has proven that he can be on a winning team consistently. If Kolb plays the rest of the season well then we could consider him a safe bet.

This +1 Football is such a team sport. With the addition of a few elite players everyone else will look so much better because they are no longer the biggest threats other teams gameplan against. It's not a coincidence that players like Coy Wire and Jim Leonhard suddenly seem to be better players when they are on teams with better talent around them. Our team is very far away from competing and yet at the same time, if we find say 5 really good mature players maybe 1 or 2 elite, we suddenly could be that team that shifts from the terrible 0-5 to a 4-1 right now.

Mankins for Jackson? Could it happen?
Swift Sylvan replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing that makes this seem less likely is that the Pats traded for Branch. I think that if they had been targeting Jackson all this time they wouldn't have made that other trade. -
Fitzpatrick jumps starts the Bills Offense
Swift Sylvan replied to Bills Fan in China's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, let's be honest here. When was the last year we had a QB who averaged more than 1 TD a game, and had more TD's to Interceptions? I'm thinking 2006, which is when we had about 25% of the personal we have now. -
