Yea checked it is 13. That has happened twice. Most recently as you say 2022. When 6 went is Rd 1 and 7 in Rd 2.

If a bookie would offer me a market on it I'd actually put money on more than 13 off the board by the end of the 2nd round.

Me too.  It’s a really deep class and teams are seeing how expensive WRs are on the open market now.  It is now the premium position, other than QB.

I think our mock may not be an accurate representation of the 2nd round league wide.  My hypothesis is that as a fanbase/board we are overwhelmingly scouting and have the highest interest in the WR group.  This bias is significant beyond what the League in general is prioritizing.  Therefore, the results here are not indicative of what a true 2nd round will look like at the end of April.

I may be wrong but that is my theory.

I don’t know, those all look like solid values, to me.  And not unlike what happened in 2022, when six WRs went top 18 and then eight more between 34-54…

No skin off my nose I'd have offered them to @Virgil for the Bills poll in any event:

2 RBs - Brooks and Benson

    1 TE - Sanders

    1 IOL - Haynes

2 DTs - Fiske and Jenkins

3 EDGE - Trice, Braswell and Isaac

2 CBs - Tampa and James

    1 S - Bullock

I think Jermaine Burton has to be on the list of considerations for Bills at 60…great long ball tracker and YAC guy…suffered under bad QB this year.

no denying diggs was an elite pro bowl level WR for all 4 years in buffalo

it's crazy that in spite of that, he was so unhappy and the bills so tired of his distractions

And each of those seasons exceeded anything Diggs did in Minnesota, a fact that the morons who say Diggs made Josh who he is conveniently forget. It was the opposite.

  5. With the 48th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Roman Wilson, WR, Univ. Of Michigan.

Anyone who thought we were going into this crucial season for Trevor Lawrence with a receiving corps of Zay Jones, Gabe Davis and an injured Christian Kirk had better think again. Wilson has the best hands in the draft and is maybe the twitchiest guy in the draft too. He was underutilized in the Wolverine’s Stone Age offense and is not a slot-only guy in the NFL.

@Might Rather and the Cincinnati Bungles are on the clock.

With the 44th pick in the 2024 NFL draft the Las Vegas Raiders select Michael Penix, QB, Washington.

The Maxwell award winner was in consideration for the Raiders at pick 13. Antonio Pierce was able to keep Bowl Cut Mark at bay and picked up the lefties blindside protector instead.

Mark Davis reportedly “grilled” potential GMs about their plan for getting the Raiders a QB. With that type of mandate, the Raiders will take a QB early in this draft.

Of the ones likely to be available, Penix is the best fit for Luke Getsy’s offense. Getsy used play action the 7th and 16th most in the league in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Penix used play action the most and was the highest graded play action QB in this class per pff.

Getsy also had a lot of deep passes baked into his offense as Chicago threw the sixth and forth most 20+ yard passes in the league the past two seasons. Penix has a huge arm and a beautiful deep ball. The injury concerns and age are a concern, but when you feel like you need a QB you take a swing.

@frostbitmic and the Saints are now in the clock

Great job.  Would have been a good pick at 13, too

With the first round over here are some notes:

There were no rbs, safeties, or lbs taken in the first round.  Non-premium positions did not get premium picks.

There were 9 OL and 6 DL.  Almost half the first round went to the trenches.

4 Qbs in the first 11 picks then none after.  As this is a no trade draft, I wonder if the next iteration will feature someone sneaking back into the second half of the first round for Penix or Nix.

6 WRs which would tie the record.

Based only on the sheet in the op: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kKiIOcYaq1A0SI-iV5sNBub4GWz-FyrSHSHMSKqV_SQ/edit#gid=0

Biggest reach - Graham Barton OL Duke 64th ranked picked 26

Best value - Terrion Arnold CB Bama 11th ranked picked 27

Really nice first round, everyone.  With the caveat that there are no trades, this seems very close to how it will play out IRL, with the exception of Daniels lasting to 11.  I'd bet we hit at least 7 or 8 picks square on the head...IOW, better than most of the "experts".

Nah he is $14.1m this year. We could extend him and lower the hit.... but you can only do that once he is on your roster.... and to get him on your roster you need the space to take on the contract in the first place.

Well, the good news is that that should dampen the trade market for him...although there are plenty of teams out there that could swallow that easily...

So this thread title is confusing to me...is there anything actually linking us to Aiyuk interest?  Title reads like we are, but I don't see any news about it anywhere.

Not aware of any, but in light of the Diggs trade, it's certainly logical that we would be interested...

He is on a 5th year option. It pays $14m this year. We have around $3m in space right now. We get another $10m due in June when Tre comes off the books but we need that money to pay our draft picks.

Thanks.  It has been posted elsewhere that he would cost only $7 million this year...could we extend him and lower his cap hit this year?

  11. 34 minutes ago, GunnerBill said:

They can't trade for him. Because they can't absorb the 5th year option cap hit and they can't restructure him before he is on the roster. And they can't get him on the roster and stay under the cap.

Interesting...can you explain further?  I thought Aiyuk would be relatively cheap this year and would not become expensive until next year when Diggs and Miller come off of our cap...

  12. I'm kinda warming to the idea of Aiyuk (assuming we don't give up a first for him) and a rookie at 28.  Aiyuk won't become expensive until next year, when Diggs's salary comes off the books.  that way, we're not going into 2024 relying on a rookie WR1.

    Trade a 2025 2nd that can become a 1st based on production

Then trade our 2024 1st and other 2025 2nd to move up for Brian Thomas Jr

Still have our 2nd this year plus a 1st or 2nd next year

    Get er done

I’d sign off on that, but I think it takes more than that to get Thomas, Jr….id be ok sticking at 28 and taking Franklin or Leggette or Mitchell…

    1 minute ago, HaldimandBills said:

Hey if a 2nd is all it takes then sign me up. He just has a lot more value than Diggs so I struggle to see him on the move for just a 2nd.

The Bills didn’t actually get a second for Diggs.  They gave up two picks and are getting a second next year.  60 and maybe a 4th this year might be enough to get Aiyuk.  I don’t see any team giving up their first for him in a draft year like this one.

Because the Niners are going to want more for a player with a 17.9 YPC that just turned 26

The Niners can want more, but if no one else wants to pay it, that’s really irrelevant.

Thoughts about a trade for him? Could we even afford what he will want? And what would it take pick wise. A proven commodity,  but costly. I'm not sure I would do it because of this amazing draft for WRs.

I'd rather take my chances in the draft.  Aiyuk is very good, but to me he's not a clearcut WR1 and wasn't one in SF...oh, and he wants to be paid.  Seems like a bad year to trade draft assets for a guy like this...

How far can #28, a 4th this year and a 2nd next year move us up in the draft?

well, a good gauge is that in 2017, KC traded 27, a 2018 first, and a 2017 third to move up to 10...so the package you're talking about probably gets you to 16 or 17

I'm pretty sure @GunnerBill has brought this point up before but there have been no wrs picked since the top 4 went off the board.  Now perhaps that is because Bills fans want them to be their for the upcoming pick but I think it's realistic that after those 4 there is a lull and gap before the next wr is picked.

Through 25 picks the breakdown is:

    5 ots

    4 qbs and wrs

    3 dt, edge, and cb

    1 te, og, and c

    0 safety, lb, or rb

through 14 picks there were 12 offensive and 2 defensive players

the next 11 went 4 offensive and 7 defensive.

Seems about right, except that in the real draft, I expect Penix and/or Nix to be off the board by now.
