    Few here even remember Simpson’s college career. I followed it intensely. Most -if not all USC games in his senior year were televised because of his on field exploits. As a forlorned Bills fan then, 1968 was a terrible year. We lost 5 QBs to serious injury, eventually turning to seldom used WR Ed Rutkowski to finish the season. Throughout that bitter campaign, all Bills fans kept an eye on O.J. as we may well earn 1st overall pick in ‘69. I vividly recall the fear and tenseness the final weeks of that season as Philly was equally inept on the field and it very close. Then Philly won a game very late and we ‘earned’ the 1st pick. WNY was beside itself with anticipation and when he 1st reported he was swarmed over at the airport. One of my favorite players at the time was Gary McDermott (no relation) who wore #32. So O.J. was issued #36 and there are many pics available of him wearing that number. But McDermott was cut at final cutdown and the number given to Simpson. Gil Perrault and Bob McAdoo were huge 1st rounders but they paled in comparison to the arrival of O.J.

    And then the Bills’ coaching brain trust decided OJ was best used as a decoy in his first three years in the NFL…

    Unless Odunze falls into the mid-teens, which is not totally impossible IMO, I don't see any way this can happen.  Teams drafting in the top 9 are not going to want to move back to 28, even for a first round pick next year.  People need to understand that the Bills' 2025 first round pick is a devalued asset...anyone acquiring it will have to assume it will be a late-first round pick and the 2025 draft is not expected to be as strong as this one, plus (obviously) the pick can't be used until next year, which devalues it further...

    With the 16th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select QB Michael Penix Jr, Washington.

    Even though personally I would take Nix over Penix, Coach Macdonald’s familiarity with coaching against the former Indiana QB and his rocket arm won the day. Outside of durability, Penix is the best QB in this class with a clean pocket in front of him. The rest of this draft class for Seattle will be to help shore up that O line to help their new franchise QB. For this year, Geno and Howell are here to ease Penix’s transition but neither have the upside of Penix and if he can stay healthy I believe his ceiling is better than McCarthy and Daniels and he’s already easily a better passer than both.

    @Doc Brown and the Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock

    I think this is going to be the Seahawks’ pick…

    I, personally, don't like him because of the same things KDIGGZ was talking about. He doesn't really separate. He's not really going to give you anything after the catch. He basically uses his body to box out smaller DB's. It worked in college to a certain extent, and it's not bad to have in the Red Zone, but it's not 1st Round, #28 worthy in hopes that he is going to become a legit boundary threat in the NFL. He'll be average at best. A 3rd or 4th WR. More than 1/3 of his season yardage totals and TD's came in 2 games, LSU and against Syracuse. He played in 10 others to the tune of 396 yards and 7 TD's. He's the college version of what Gabe Davis was for us in the NFL. I'd be extremely disappointed if Beane turned in that card.

    He's actually really good after the catch...he returned punts, not a job typically given to players who lack the ability to run with the football...as to Coleman's lesser production in some games, you could say the same thing about every receiver in the draft, and I'm sure the fact that his QB got hurt had a lot to do with it.

    Depends what team Dr say.  Its not a matter of grade but is he being taken off their boards completely for medical concerns.  Some risk adverse teams will take him off.  Some will not.  They said the same thing about Jalen Phillips but he was drafted high but often injured.

    The Bills have not shown an inclination to take a chance on guys with significant injury histories...

    I watched a lot of Coleman this past year (I'm a Clemson alumni but watch a lot of ACC/college games in general), and I know he isn't popular on this board, but I have to say, this is guy that plays faster that he ran in the 40.  He's an excellent, NFL ready receiver. He tore Clemson up and Clemson has some legit, NFL corners. He could come in right away and be our starting #2WR and be an upgrade over Gabe Davis day 1. He does not have breakaway speed or burst, but he has football speed and elite route running/body control, and is sure handed. Don't get my wrong, I covet an electric receiver for the Bills prob more than most (I've been screaming for it for the last 2 years, even with Diggs), and still think we need a true #1 with elite athleticism/upside type, but wouldn't be upset if the Bills got Coleman, and you shouldn't be either. He going to be a good NFL receiver.  My ideal scenario is that they grab one of Thomas Jr/Worthy/Legette/Franklin/McConkey in round 1, and are able to grab Coleman in round 2.

    Coleman is a phenomenal athlete who will have a long career in the NFL...people who don't like him seem to be obsessed with his 40 time, which has been shown to have little correlation with NFL success...He's not my favorite WR prospect, but I would not mourn if the Bills were to take him in round 1 or 2.

    I've heard a lot of Bills talking heads raving about 2nd round WR success -- Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown, etc.

    It's a hot topic with the podcasting community as everyone seems to be laser focused at WR in round 1 or 2.

    So, I was curious to research the hit rate of WR in 1st round vs 2nd round the past several years. The results might surprise you.

    I marked "++" for plus starters each year, which I would define as a top 32 wideout. The past 2 seasons are TBD, so I started in 2021.

    Totals:

    11 out of 28 first round picks ended up being plus starters (39%).

    6 out of 33 second round picks ended up being plus starters (18%).

    2021:

    1st Round

    Ja'Marr Chase ++

    Jaylen Waddle ++

    DeVonta Smith ++

    Kadarius Toney

    Rashod Bateman

    2nd Round

    Elijah Moore

    Rondale Moore

    D'Wayne Eskridge

    Tutu Atwell

    Terrace Marshall Jr

    2020:

    1st Round

    Henry Ruggs

    Jerry Jeudy

    CeeDee Lamb ++

    Jalen Reagor

    Justin Jefferson ++

    Brandon Aiyuk ++

    2nd Round

    Tee Higgins ++

    Michael Pittman ++

    Laviska Shenault

    KJ Hamler

    Chase Claypool

    Van Jefferson

    Denzel Mims

    2019:

    1st Round

    Marquise Brown

    N'Keal Harry

    2nd Round

    Deebo Samuel ++

    AJ Brown ++

    Mecole Hardman

    JJ Arcega-Whiteside

    Parris Campbell

    Andy Isabella

    DK Metcalf ++

    2018:

    1st Round:

    DJ Moore ++

    Calvin Ridley

    2nd Round:

    Courtland Sutton

    Dante Pettis

    Christian Kirk

    Anthony MIller

    James Washintgon

    DJ Chark

    2017:

    1st Round:

    Corey Davis

    Mike Williams ++

    John Ross

    2nd Round:

    Zay Jones

    Curtis Samuel

    JuJu Smith-Schuster

    2016:

    1st Round:

    Corey Coleman

    Will Fuller

    Josh Doctson

    Laquon Treadwell

    2nd Round:

    Sterling Shepard

    Michael Thomas +?

    Tyler Boyd

    2015:

    1st Round:

    Amari Cooper ++

    Kevin White

    DeVante Parker

    Nelson Agholor

    Breshad Perriman

    Phillip Dorsett

    2nd Round:

    Devin Smith

    Dorial Green-Beckham

    So ... when you hear the talking heads describing 1st and 2nd round as both being a hot bed for WR talent historically, this is just recency bias due to a few good players coming from the 2020 and 2019 first and second round. There have been been A LOT of JAGs mixed in as well... but maybe they forgot. Hope you enjoy the analysis.

    But why stop at round two?  If you look at the even later rounds, you'd get guys like Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Tryreek Hill, Cooper Kupp, Puka Nakua, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Terry McLaurin, Amon-Re St Brown, Romeo Dobbs, Dionte Johnson, Rashid Shaheed (undrafted), etc...

    The practical difference is it's not about you being innocent, not guilty just means they haven't done enough to prove that you're guilty, that's the point, if you had to prove yourself innocent it would be much higher burden because you'd have to actually prove it there wouldn't be an automatic assumption of innocence.

    And yet, under our binary system, "not guilty" is the only available verdict besides guilty.  So, even a person who is 100% verifiably innocent of a crime cannot obtain a verdict that is more favorable than "not guilty", at least in a criminal trial.  FWIW, it's my understanding that a person who was wrongly convicted of a crime can later be set free based upon a showing of "actual innocence", but that's not what we're talking about here.

  9. 1 minute ago, Warcodered said:

    The difference is very obvious "not guilty"- means they didn't find enough to say that you are guilty. "Proven innocent"- means they found enough to say you are innocent.

    Semantics.  What is the practical difference? Under our system, “not guilty” is the only available “vindication” for someone wrongly accused of a crime. No one has ever been found “innocent”.

    Boyst, I KNOW you know better than that.  The criminal justice system finds no one "innocent".

    By that logic I don't ever wanna see another thread on here complaining about Tyreek Hill or Ray Rice or whoever ever again.  OJ was by far the biggest POS human being out of all of them.  A  real sociopath.  I don't care how talented he was.  The hypocrisy of football fans sure is something at times

    Is it a Bills football website, or not?  Simpson was found not guilty of murder, just like Tyreek Hill was never convicted of domestic abuse or whatever it is that people here constantly smear him with.  I don’t see the hypocrisy you’re talking about.

    Well, it is a Bills football website and he was the best Bills player of all time, so I don’t understand your point…

  15. With the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select Brian Thomas, Jr., WR, LSU.

    We are excited to be able to add Thomas, Jr after trading back and adding a second round pick next year from a Denver team that probably won’t win many games in 2024.  Thomas is the most explosive receiver in this stacked WR class…6’3” guys with insane athletic ability, 4.3 speed and great college production don’t come around too often.  We thought about going OT here, but the chance to add a guy like Thomas—and pair him with his college QB—was too good to pass up.  We don’t have a second round pick, and we were concerned that we would lose out on a top WR if we waited.

    Color me surprised and at least a little bit disappointed that there was no discussion of the Bills trading up to 5, 6, or 7 for one of those guys.

    Not sure if that would've come in the form of a poll, a private message inquiry to those picks' owners, or what, but...it seems at least a reasonable enough possibility in real life to discuss the possibility within the context of this mock, no?

    Bummer.

    No one wants to move back that far, especially in a mock like this one.  It’s not at all realistic to think the Bills could move into the top seven. It won’t happen in real life, either.
