  1. Agreed, there is a fair possibility of that, but I have a feeling that Bulaga will be there for us at 9. If not, I'm with you and I think the most likely outcome is that we draft Dan Williams, which, despite the naysayers, would be a very good pick, even if it might be a slight reach. The guy was a beast in college and has the style of NT play that Edwards seems to like.
  2. I don't think Gailey will be new to the "rebuilding business." When you coach in college, your whole career is a rebuilding exercise because your players are turning over every four years. To suggest that he doesn't know anything about rebuilding a football team shows a lack of understanding about the college game. Second, anyone who expects a coaching staff to turn around this team from where it is into a Superbowl Champion in one offseason is really fooling themselves. Buffalo needs a lot of help, at a lot of positions, and they are not going to be filled in one offseason. Rebuilding is a process that has to be done right from the start or the building never gets finished. Gailey and Nix seem to be doing things right, but it will take two or three years before we'll know for sure. Gailey has been widely praised as an offensive mind. He was being considered for the Chicago vacancy and Bill Cowher has stated that if he had come back to coaching this year, Chan Gailey would have been his choice for OC. Perhaps we could restrain the prophets of doom and gloom until we actually have some tangible results to see if this team is heading in the right direction. Perhaps even waiting for the draft and training camp to pass us by before rushing to judgment about the head coach and his direction would be a prudent decision. But wait, this is still TBD, and that's asking way too much.
  3. If there is a run on offensive tackles that means that Buffalo will probably take the best NT that is on the board, which in that scenario is likely Dan Williams, or they trade back and hope to get one of the slightly lower graded T/Gs that are left in the draft, like a Iupati, while seizing picks in the second round. Buffalo will not take a skill position player at #9. There are too many needs, and frankly Dez Bryant isn't worth the #9 pick, and Clausen is overrated in my opinion. That being said, I find this scenario rather unlikely given the needs of the teams you listed. Detroit is not going to take Okung, I don't think. They will go with Gerald McCoy or Ndamakung Suh. Okung's best first landing spot is Washington, who I believe is more likely to draft Clausen. However, if that happens, one of the top four tackles will still come to us, because between four and nine, there will be at least two teams not drafting tackle. Eric Berry will be taken in that group, and someone in that area is going to draft a DE. We should be able to get either Bulaga, Davis, or Trent Williams, who I don't think will go in the top five. Also consider the fact that the Raiders love to draft by the numbers, and that means they will likely draft Bruce Campbell, so that might free up two of the top five tackles for us to choose from. However, supposing that your scenario pans out, I think the best bet is for Buffalo to take the best NT available. I think Dan Williams will be there at #9 and Buffalo should take him. If not, trade back and stockpile another second and/or third round pick, where we can get solid NFL ready guys at positions of need.
  4. I think based on some of the media comments that were made, there has been a lot of hype that the Bills were interested in Tebow. Whether they were ever considering him with the #9 pick, which seems very unlikely, or not, showing that you are too interested in a player is never a good thing. Particularly when he has other visits lined up, and considering how badly Jacksonville needs to sell tickets to avoid being sent to LA. The more I have seen and read about Tebow, the more I think the Bills are going to draft him the second round. I suspect that if we do that we will trade back into the second round to get one of the remaining NTs as well, thus filling three of our four biggest needs on the team in the first round. I would be all right with drafting Tebow in the second round at 41, but not at #9, no matter how much the team likes him. he is too much of a risk and a project when we have so many positions where we need impact players now.
  5. LeFevour was clearly the best QB on the field at the senior bowl, playing mostly with receivers and rbs he hasn't played with before. IMO that is why the Senior Bowl game is a good environment to evaluate players. They are playing in unfamiliar confines with people they haven't played with before, but everyone is playing for something: the chance to increase their draft position and thus their money. There is big motivation to show up and play at the Senior Bowl. Tebow looked lost, but LeFevour looked poised, aware, and made all the throws they asked him to make. His throws did not "duck," or wobble, a sign of a weak armed toss over distance. And he sure can run. I'm not saying LeFevour is the best QB in the draft, or that he will necessarily be better than anyone else. I'm merely saying the guy has what it takes to be an NFL QB. And keep in mind, Tebow plays in Florida. Not a guy used to the cold. LeFevour played at Central Michigan in the MAC, a conference with a lot of schools that play in colder weather open air stadiums. Michigan gets cold, windy, and snowy in the winter time. LeFevour has great stats, played in a climate conducive to success in the colder weather of Buffalo and did look good today. If we take him in the second round, I would be very happy with that selection.
  6. Would Buffalo, in any situation where JaMarcus Russell were available for trade, take that deal? Three words: NO NO NO!!!!! He is, perhaps, the worst starting QB in the league, bar none. Even if we could get rid our seven worst players, and Oakland was willing to eat Russell's salary and theirs for the remainder of their contracts, the only reason I'd take him is that after Edwards and Fitzpatrick are gone, we're going to need a third string QB in case our draft pick and Brohm get hurt.
  7. Gailey said they were going to have to run the football. Perhaps that is why they hired an OC who can focus on the running aspect of the offense? That wouldn't then leave Chan to develop the passing game and work with the QB would it? No that would make too much sense. Then again, so would the coach hiring an assistant who knows how he operates and how he wants the offense to run. But hey, its only January 24th and we're 0-0. Time to start panicking!!!
  8. I think we need to take a tackle with the number nine pick. There are two or three very good ones in the draft this year who will likely go in the top ten or twelve. Buffalo should draft one of them at number nine. However, if Dan LeFevour is available in the second round at our pick, we would be crazy not to take him. He looks like the next Big Ben playing in the MAC. Barring LeFevour, Buffalo could take chance in the second on Tony Pike. If those two are unavailable, I think Buffalo needs to take an LB in the second or a DT. Lines are where the game is won and lost, assuming you have a decent QB, which Buffalo doesn't. Still, we need to build the lines, and I think Buffalo should take at least two lineman in the draft this year.
  9. I read that there is suppose to be a meeting with them when the HC search is done to determine, what, if any role they will play with the team. I think they should have been fired immediately when Nix was hired, but we'll see. I have a feeling Nix is going to clean house once the coach is in place.
  10. Of course we wanted Dallas to win tonight. Wade Phillips will keep his job now, thus an attractive coaching vacancy that would have opened up for, say, Cowher or another HC with experience, will remain closed. Cowhers options for reentering the NFL to coach this year are stuck at one. We may get him by default. Not necessarily the best scenario, but so long as RW is willing to open the pocketbook just a bit, we could have Cowher here by next Friday.
  11. Those are good samaritan statutes to aid a person in distress. They are not necessarily the same thing as a statute that requires one to notify the police of witnessed criminal activity.
  12. It does depend on the state's statute regarding obstruction, but it is highly unlikely that merely failing to file a report of what you witnessed would be classified as obstruction of justice. Lying to the police about what you saw is one thing, not saying anything is another. Also, I don't know of any state that would charge you with homicide in any degree for merely witnessing a murder. That's called being merely present, and mere presence is not enough to make you guilty of a crime.
  13. Frazier runs it in Minnesota and it has looked pretty darn good there the last three years. The problem isn't the scheme it's the coach and the players running it. Our D needs a LB, DE and DT and we're set. It's the offense I worry about, which is why I don't want to hire a DC as coach, but Frazier's cover two has done very well in Minnesota. Not saying it works for us, but the system itself is sound.
  14. The search couldn't start nine weeks ago dude. First off, they wanted to see what Perry Fewell could do. So they gave him some time to show them. More importantly though, they needed to hire a GM first, you know, someone to run the football operation and interview the new coaching candidates? Yeah, that guy. Then, once they had their guy, they started showing interest in a number of top tier candidates and other coordinators. Now we're fully in the process. Finding the right coach isn't a one day event, or a one week nail biter. Seattle did it the wrong way, and will find out that Pete Carroll was a great college coach because they play in a mediocre conference at a school that any athlete in their right mind would want to attend, giving them the pick of the litter. Think back to Pete Carroll's last coaching assignment. Remember when we used to throttle the Patriots on a regular basis? Yeah, it was that guy in charge. I much prefer a rigorous process than a dog and pony show. The coaching search the last three times, imo, was lacking and resulted in a quick hires of cheap or predetermined candidates for the Bills. I want to see this done right and since we don't have any competition right now, why make things difficult? Taking the time to get it right is worthwhile in the long run. Let's wait and see what happens before anyone goes and gets their unders in a knot.
  15. Considering how absolutely terrible Kolb has been, getting rid of McNabb would be the deathknell for the Eagles franchise until they find an adequate replacement. Kolb is terrible. They'd be better off picking Losman up off the Raider's practice squad. No way McNabb leaves Philadelphia after this season unless you see them making a big signing or announcing that they are going to resign Vick for the long term.
  16. Dude, crimes can happen anywhere. You clearly haven't lived in a place where crime is an issue.
  17. Where do you get that he was blasting him? Ralph said he wasn't going to comment on Cowher's thoughts about coming here and if the media really wanted to know they should ask him. Nothing wrong with that. It's the right thing to do. If Ralph comes out and says yeah he's our coach, he very well could turn us down, since Cowher has been clear that he isn't going to comment on any coaching interviews he has right now. Further, saying they want a guy who wants to be part of the community and coaches with passion made me think immediately of Cowher based on what I saw of him in Pittsburgh. We all need to stop blowing Ralph's no comments into more than they are in an attempt to find reasons to doubt. Just sit back and wait like everyone else around here and see what Buffalo does, then comment on the decision. All this speculating is getting us nowhere.
  18. The maturity issues are one thing. Bad, but he's young and will grow. The problem is he is terrible. I had the "pleasure" of watching him play for Michigan when they had a coach who knew what he was doing, and Mallett was so bad they benched him and transferred his rear right out of U of M. He hasn't looked much improved at his new school either. Just say no. I Buffalo wants a QB they better hope that one of three things happens. One of the top QBs in the draft other than Clausen drops to eight, they can get LeFevour or Pike in the second round, or some QB is available in FA that is better than what we have. Also, I want to see what Brian Brohm shows in the offseason. He was a very good QB for Louisville and had a good arm. He's suffered in GB from the starters don't get hurt syndrome that other QBs have suffered. I still think the Bills are going to have to go after a QB though, either in FA or Draft. Just not Ryan Mallett.
  19. Byrd looks like he is the definition of a ball hawk. He's always in the play, and he did more than make interceptions today. He had a TD saving tackle in the fourth quarter on Steve Smith and was involved in that stop on fourth an one. Buffalo's secondary really looks strong, and Byrd is looking like the best pick of this years draft for sure.
  20. Let's just try and keep our eyes on the game next week. Please, let's not get ahead of ourselves. That being said, lets all savor the fact that the NFL's new anointed golden boy dropped a lead balloon on the field against us today. People were ready to write Sanchez's ticket to the hall of fame after three games. I think the love affair should be over after this week. He looked like a rookie qb from a third rate college. That being said, our secondary has looked very good over the past two games. If only our run D from the first two games could find itself.
  21. Where are all those Patrick Chung loving Pats fans now? Which player was the ball hawk again? I think the play of Mr. Byrd has definitively answered that question.
  22. I have been a supporter of Jauron's and I haven't been shy about it. The time has come for him to go. This ineptitude on both sides of the ball has got to stop. There is no way to explain this loss other than coaching that would make high school teams blush. Jauron's got to go, along with the entire front office. April will be the interim coach, and if Ralph really wants to win, he'll bring in one of the top three coaches now currently available. This absolute debacle of a coaching staff has got to end. Please pass my helping of crow.
  23. You are right only in so far as that those things are all rules. However, if you were to take a neutral look at the Tuck Rule play, which is perhaps the third worst officiating blunder of the last fifteen years in any sport, that play did not meet the standards of the rule as stated in the rule book. As for the other two rules, those are inventions that were made by the league BECAUSE of Tom Brady. The fact is the officials and the NFL go out of their way to help the Patsies, and the fact is, they don't need it. If they are as great as everyone thinks they are, why do they need extra help from the referees? One further point, the blatant misspots of the football in critical situations, many of which are well documented, including the HORRIBLE one in the Monday Night Game that gave NE a first down on their first TD drive, that should have been a fourth and two. That is not in the rules, and it should not happen. Ed Reed is right in what he said in his comments. The game has progressed way too far for there to be those kinds of spotting issues. The fact is, the Patriots, for whatever reason, are the chosen team of the NFL, and for whatever reason, they seem to get more calls in their favor, particularly in critical situations, than any other team. And one more example, back in 1997-98, please find me a rule that allows a referee to say "just give it to them" when a receiver makes a catch with both feet clearly out of bounds giving the team a first down and then they go on to win the game. That happened on a Sunday Night Game, when the Bills lost to the Patriots. That was on the final, game winning drive by the then Drew Bledsoe led NE Patriots. It goes back that far. There's no rule in the books to justify that call, unless I'm not aware of the just give it to 'em rule.
  24. This might be an even closer expression to my feelings about the Pats-Falcons game this week than I could have written. I think the Pats* lose by at least a TD and Matt Ryan has a field day with the Pats* banged up secondary. Brady just doesn't look the same as he used to, and if he isn't careful some backup is going to replace him as NE ships him out the door to St. Louis in a surprise trade for a first round pick. No loyalty to stars in that organization, not that I'd cry about it. Poetic justice is what that would be.
  25. I think AVP made it clear that Fred will not ever again in Buffalo have the label back up. I see the Bills using both of them, sometimes both on the field at the same time as they did in the old days with Thurman and Kenneth Davis. Imagine a three receiver set with both of them in the backfield. The defense wouldn't know what to do. You could go deep, throw the late screen to either Lynch or Jackson, or run the delayed draw. Split Jackson out as a receiver too. That's just scary if you are a DC for an opposing team. Lynch's "break" here at the beginning of the season will pay dividends in December when he has less wear and tear, and we need to pound the football down the oppositions throat in our final three games. We have a lot of talent on offense this year, and if AVP can guide the ship like he has the first two weeks, we might be looking at a halfway decent record at the finish.
